- It's been reported that eight names are in the mix for Utah's NHL team. Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC), Ice, Fury, Venmon, Blizzard, Mammoth, Outlaws and Yetis. Austin Facer breaks down the names, tells you which ones are stupid and gives his take on what the winning name should be.

Yeti(s) or Mammoth would be really cool for those that enjoy our mountains. I could rep some outlaws merch too. But only if the mascots name is Butch
Butch seems like a fine name.
He could have a lady friend mascot named Cassidy.
The design & logo opportunities for Outlaws would be endless. I've seen super cool concepts already.
The Yetis is definitely marketable and good design opportunities too. I'd love the color scheme the most on this one.
Mammoth I'd love for the originality. There's no major sports team with this name and it sounds big & mighty. Not sure what the color scheme of this would be. Maybe brown/copper, White & blue? The logo of a Mammoth should have some snow in its fur too!
Great new channel! You've got a new subscriber here! Here's to our new hockey team! SO excited! I'll be converting from being a Calgary Flame fan all my life. Guess I'll have two favorite teams!? 😅
Appreciate it! My dad did his LDS mission in Calgary so I’ve always felt a certain kinship with you Alberta folks.
1. Mammoth
2. Outlaws
These are the only two I’m digging but I’m digging them hard.
Flip em and I’m with you there.
Glad I found another Outlaws believer! It's not the most original name but I think you hit the nail on the head with the history and branding opportunities. Also Ryan Smith also talked a lot about making intermissions at games feel like a "show" and specifically mentioned being inspired by what Vegas has done, the Outlaws for a name provides a great way to pull that off.
Oooh great to hear. Went to a VGK game this year and was totally blown away by the "show" element.
My biggest problem with yetis is it has nothing to do with Utah. Also, I feel like Colorado owns the yeti with their old mascot and alternate logo. I’ve seen a ton of really cool concepts of Utah animals that, similar to your comments on Milwaukee, would be very unique to Utah. Stags was one and surprisingly, badgers could be another cool one.
Great thoughts
Bandits...as in "one armed bandits" which LV is obviously known for
It should be a music themed name to fit with the jazz
It should be SLC Puck! and they should pay me hundreds of thousands of dollars for the URL and social handles.
@@SLCPuck would be good sucks the blues are taken because that would have been perfect but maby the Utah soul
I've thought about the fact that many species of dinosaur bones have been found in Utah, I wouldn't mind seeing them named the Utah Dragons given the mythical connection to dinosaurs. Besides, there's so much you could do color wise with Dragons, like Red Dragons, Black Dragons, etc.
Yeah it’s interesting there were no dinosaur references in the list of 20 names. I talk about the list in my latest episode.
@@SLCPuck With competent management I see no reason why you guys can't make the playoffs. There's some good young talent. Wish you luck.
1000% agree with you take on names. It has to represent Utah, I love the Jazz and Real Salt Lake, but I’m not at all in love with either of their names. Let’s do this one right. If you turn venom to Utah Rattlers, it would make it up there with Mammoth and Outlaws for me.
I think the problem there is that Rattlers would probably be considered another slight to Arizona since they’ve long had an arena football team there called the Rattlers. It’s probably the most successful arena football team ever so I’m sure there would be blowback for taking something else from Arizona. Too bad though. It’s a great name.
@@SLCPuck Oh dang I didn't know that. Yeah, that wouldn't be good.
mammoth needs to be mammoths
Agreed. Did they travel in herds?
Yeti and blizzard toi close to colorado. Snakes might be cool Rattler etc. I like bee themed maybe swarm or stingers.
It’s weird we haven’t heard a lot of Bee-related names
@@SLCPuck ive heard Swarm and Stingers so far.
That's because the bee theme should be reserved for baseball.
How about a continuation of the previous name? Something smart, in fact, genius. A name that doesn't quit no matter what. Ever hopeful, full of drive. Utah Wile E.
Utah Phoenix?
When is the bracket dropping ??? Thats all i want toknow.
Winnipeg ice had a yeti logo, should not have been an oiption
I think Yeti/Yetis is a lot more unlikely than many are thinking.
UTAH MASTODONS !!! (Or Sun-Dancers)
Why not Sasquatch?
I think Yetis/Sasquatch isn't as likely as some would think. The Avs' foot logo actually presents a big barrier.
Outlaws is way over used my favorite right now is yeti no s and Mammoth
Now what do you mean by overused?
Don't get me wrong I like the name but l have heard that like there is 12 teams that use that name and I want the team I root for be as original as possible
@@stevebingham7259 did you root for the coyotes or are u a bandwagon
@@TheBeatMakersGuild I am a perds fan and will always be I am from Utah and want my home team to have a kick-ass name and yes they will be my second team to root for them until they play the preds
Something tells me that a lot of the names that have been trademarked wont make it on the bracket. I feel like Yetis was more fun at first but has kinda dropped off since the initial rumors. Mammoth is my current favorite. I would probably call them the Whoolies, the alternate nickname going around. I really like Utah Hockey Club for the first year. Nothing that has been trademarked really jumps out to me. Can't wait for the bracket though. Good luck on your date 👍
Bro Whoolies is genius!!
Yeah I’d be willing to bet that , “Utah Ice” is a trademark for a rink developed business arm. And the two that are utah hockey club and HC won’t be going into the bracket. I’d think we get 2 more possible names at least.
Utah salt flats
Utah has had many Bigfoot sightings. So any of the mythical bigfoots can work, but most don't sound very good. Bigfoot doesn't work. Neither does sasquatch. Not a big fan of Yeti either. But Abomination sounds good. As in abominable snowman. And Colorado has no claim on it.
I disagree about Outlaws. It is too generic like Venom or Fury. It does apply to Utah, but unfortunately it has been used too many times in the minor league sports.
The best so far:
1- Abomination
2- Mammoth
3- Yeti
4- Stags (maybe)
Not many other ideas are very good.
Colorado has the footprint secondary logo. I think that'll cause issues with Yetis/Bigfoot/Abomination.
Never been to Utah, but there AREN'T any Coyotes there?
If so, why change?
To have a new identity, leave the Coyotes to AZ if they ever get another team.
I believe part of the deal was to leave the team name and history for when the Arizona franchise gets reactivated
@@SLCPuck It makes a lot of sense. If they ever got the right sized arena in the right location, and some competent management, it could work in the desert.
utah angels
Eh.
Yeti would be the worst name in sports history
The Utah Jazz might actually hold that title.
wud b a gr8 name for a hockey team IN NEPAL
Yetis
They’re going with Yeti, singular, as the option for some reason. You can hear all about the options in my latest episode. Thanks for your support!
Outlaws are criminals. I don’t love that. Second, tons of minor league teams in many sports have used Outlaws.
Yeti/Yetis for the win!
Fighting could be a criminal act…but it’s very commonplace in hockey. Just food for thought.
@@SLCPuck I don’t think hockey fights and “Wild West Outlaws” are comparable but go off 💀
@@SLCPuck is legal and sanctioned its not criminal are u slow
@@RealZacharyRoy its not even a crime its sanctioned thats like calling high school wrestlers crimminals
Yetis is fine for a 4th grade soccer team but not an NHL team
