Manipur violence: Refugees at relief camps narrate ordeal, express worry over family well-being

- As the situation in Manipur walks the thin ice of repeated conflicts amid intense violence, several people from violence-hit areas narrated their ordeal in Moirang on May 06. With the state burning in internal conflict, people from conflict-hit parts of Manipur have taken refuge in several camps in safer areas. With families being scattered amid trying to save each other, many expressed their worry over the well-being of the rest of the family members. Briefing on the camp arrangements, one of the organisers informed about the number of people staying at the camps. Opening up about the state situation, Manipur Security Advisor briefed on it.
Manipur since May 03, has been witnessing one of the deadliest clashes with houses and shops being burnt down. The violence erupted during a march that was organised by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur against Metei community demanding ST status. An alleged attack by a mob at the Metei community during the march triggered the intense clash followed by heavy violence.
