Hi Tom, just to clarify my comment when streaming, the New Zealand road user charges came in 2 months ago by the new Government. Diesel cars already pay the RUC & have been for years, gas cars pay the tax at the pump. So they lumped EV's in with diesel and pay the same $76 per 1000km. You buy upfront however many blocks of 1000km, then add admin fee of $13.71. Plug in hybrid cars is $38 per 1000km as they also get taxed on fuel. Motoring organisations worked out that it is cheaper to run a fuel efficient mild hybrid (no plugin) and yes I worked it out and it is. The market for used EV has crashed here, dealers don't want them as they can't sell on. Car dealers are keeping quite about as they are trying to offload the new EV& plug in hybrid stock build up (at massive discounts). The last Government (when we brought the Tesla) gave us all the tax back plus there were no road user charges, then new Government came in and changed it all. EV sales have slumped all over the world, so adding in the non stop discounting by EV companies, then add the more expensive to run than a gas/hybrid (RUC), no wonder nobody wants them here. Having lived with the Tesla for several years, going back to a gas/hybrid is like going back in time, noisy, low tech, servicing, so love the Tesla, like many owners do. I charge from home so it's not too bad to run, charging stations make it very expensive. I have ordered a Toyota hybrid that should be here Q1 2025 with a refundable deposit, no idea if they will trade in Tesla then, as they don't know what way the market is going. Tom, I love your streaming channel and all the real estate market info, although different league to NZ, but find it very interesting. I try to work at the same time (work from home) and watch your live stream as it's about mid afternoon here. Might miss your stream this afternoon as I need to go out.
