- Out on an area with deep soil this week which is unusual in my neck of the woods. I am metal detecting with the fifteen by twelve inch Minelab Equinox 800 coil. Silvers, mysteries and my thoughts on the coil.

Howdy Andrew, It's great to know the physical principles of the wheel, the lever and the inclined plane. It's saved my skeleton a lot of wear and tear. I reckon you'll need that big coil in England where metal things have had thousands of years to settle into the ground. I sure wish you luck on your and Viv's great adventure. That first site was pretty amazing. Loved the naval buttons especially the second one. Who knows what that mystery coin was if no coins that size had knurled edges like that. Could be a token. Gday Roelf. It was lucky that it did this video as a review for work so I could try before I buy. Yes it has a place book in my bag for England. Interesting to dig deep targets. I don’t normally do it cos everywhere else has shallow soil.
Naval buttons were cool. May never know what that big coin is.

G.day Andrew,. This video has come up at just the right time for me. I have just ordered the coiltek equivalent to this and expecting it this week. I have noticed that while the ground has so much moisture that even the standard 11" tends to go much deeper than over summer. The diggings in my area don't seem to have anything to find so I am hoping that the larger coil will help. I should know by next weekend. Great video at the right time. Cheers John
Gday John. I have done a review on the coiltek coil too but won’t be released for a couple of weeks. You will have fun with it but both are a bit on the heavy side. A harness is a good idea. Good luck with it all mate 👍👍😁
Good stuff. Also love my 15 incher. First find could be a 303 blank shell (no bullet projectile) training round by the looks.

Whoa... go to timeline 24:08 - the 4-spoker thingy... that looks like a drill bit for mining (I have several) - drilling holes into rock to place dynamite charges - used on the ends of ~3' long extensions for the drills. I also have the 3' long drill bits (before the expendable screw-on bits) from the circa 1880's gold mines in northern WA State. If you can dig out the hole in the middle opposite the four points you might find threads that would have screwed onto the "newer" extensions. I was on a crew of 5 helping a geologist survey and map a circa 1880's gold mine back in the mid-80's - what a trip!

Ive got the 15" coil and its great. I dont use as often I Id like because of the trash in my local area, but in the clean parts it goes deep. The nose is quite sensitive, so I usually triangulate using the target id tone rather than bother with pinpoint with this coil. The weight does put a strain on your arm, so I keep my detecting time to around an hour when using it. Ive read that putting a counter weight at the end of the shaft makes life easier by balancing the weight over the hand grip, but I havent tried it yet. Those buttons were pretty awesome, Id love to find one.
Gday J73. Yes it can get quite a few targets under it in a trashy site. The nose is good for sniffing things. I have been using a harness with it and it does help. The buttons were pretty cool. Don’t mind a good button. Thanks for watching. Take care mate 😁👍

Honestly I think you'd do well with a divining stick!! I loved the veiled Vicky & Eddy sixpences, there's something so pretty in their design. I think the larger coil might be a bit too heavy for this old girl, but loved that you were able to come back with tips for making it easier. Thanks for another great vid Andrew & Viv 😄

At 24.20m I wonder if that is the tip of a drill from a drill rig setup. I so it will have tungsten tips on the 4 edges. Love your work. I wish I had areas as old as you have.

Dont know how i missed this last night, kept checking to see if you had posted, but Managed to miss it somehow, I was wondering how you would go with the extra weight, but you answered that, there does seem to be a couple of straigt lines on that large coin but not much else to go on, that coil will definitely have its use in the right places, and you didnt fail to sniff out some silvers, im off to do some detecting shortly, and hoping for a few myself! I had to get back to this particular permission, an old house site that ive been a regular at since November last year, I had been waiting and hoping for it to be slashed, having detected in between the heavy and long grass all this time, pulling penny's, halves and a few silvers and assorted relics from amongst it, Then the "Hellelujah" day arrived, it was slashed! but I had to wait till Sunday to go there. To say I was a bit antsy would be an understatement, one penny and a half, in the first 10 min, then a lot of any signal digging, just in case, so i wasn't raking it in, theres a lot of area to cover, and will take a while to do, buts its just great to be able to do a full swing there, weather permitting, i will be there tomorrow. sorry for the long yarn, had to tell someone about it, and your the poor bugger that copped it! The edge of some 1806 KG3 pennies have diagonal reeding and are the same size as a cartwheel.
Gday Jason. There is a 1mm difference in diameter of a cartwheel and an 1806-07 penny and a cartwheel weighs 28.35gms and the 1806 weighs 18.9. The mystery coin weighs 26.46gms. It may just remain a mystery. Thanks heaps for watching 😁👍
Great to see you enjoying the big coil Andrew with some cool finds.Ideal for covering those big open sites with scattered targets. I've used mine a lot lately,although I'm using the Coiltek 15 inch. Will agree that they can get heavy after a while,but I'm ok for a few hours of swinging with digging the occasional target to have a bit of a break.Would have been great to be able to ID that big coin? Gday Gary. It is good for the open space. Did buy it and it has a space booked in my suitcase for the big trip. The harness is coming too. Big coin is the same size as a cartwheel but weighs about 8 gms less. Bit of a mystery. Take care mate 😁👍

Hi Andrew, like you I have the same problem with my elbow and shoulder and knees and lower back, the less strain the better,
I find the 11 to heavy now days let alone the 15 ,
But for someone that’s younger it’s perfect 👍,

Gday Jim. Trouble when you fall in love with the 6” coil. You don’t want to take it off. I find a use a harness for the 11” these days. It just helps to take the weight and makes you less saw. All the best mate 😁👍
Would love to have this coil and the 8" coil. I need to get down to central VIC for some detecting, Sydney sucks (in more ways than one). Happy hunts CBK.

Any round ( ammunition) that is crimped on the end is a BLANK round. Check the firing pin for a dent in the centre tro see if it has been fired
