It's not about hating, it is good but not objectively better than first 4 albums. And the times where if you went softer/mainstream, you were "selling out". And i a way death metal was the opposite evolution.

the cold hard truth… if anyone says “‘Metallica went soft, they sold out, first four albums were the best, Lars sucks” they ain’t Metallica fans. Period. They have sooo much amazing material you haven’t even begun to discover..I’m excited for you!
That’s not fair. I know people who genuinely dislike latter-day Metallica but love the first four. They are no less of Metallica fans than you or me….everyone has their preferences.
yeah.. they evolved out of thrash into a more general heavy rock, with these albums. But the important thing is that their song writing was still prime... that machine broke down during S. Anger, and they still haven't fixxxed it.

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Thank you for taking my suggestion! If you want to dive even deeper into 90's Metallica, I'd suggest the song Bleeding Me from the album Load, the one between this album and the black album. Such a good song, and it has one of my personal favorite underrated Metallica Riffs.
I saw them live on the Cunning Stunts tour and they were playing this as a teaser for RE:Load. The performance was incredible. They had a red light effect nd James "devil voice" it was one of THE COOLEST things I've ever seen live.
Great suggestions 👍🏻🤘🏻 Something I noticed last time I listened to “I Disappear”…the snare drum has the exact same sound as the St Anger snare but no-one ever mentions it. Just because of where that sits in the mix of that song. Maybe a remix of St Anger on the cards? 🤷🏻 Also, have you tried watching/listening to “StAnger2015” on TH-cam? A guy recreated the whole album, but with a normal snare sound, and streamlined all the songs. Some Kind of Monster, for example, on his version is only about five minutes long instead of ten. Makes for a much tighter, better sounding experience. And I liked St Anger when it first came out 👍🏻
I've seen Metallica 9 times. from 1987 to 2020 - Every show is the Best Concert you've EVER seen.... they top themselves every year. Metallica 4 Life =}
The haters I heard were those early Metalicca fans who couldn't handle the band's evolution because they saw it as going too mainstream and selling out to more commercial music norms, but i think you nailed it, MB. Metallica has always played hard and heavy, even on their ballads. They perform with such power. Evolution is growth, and some people just aren't ready to grow with the bands they claim they love. Their loss. Open minds have open ears, and enjoy that much more music of many styles.
Early Metallica attracted that small but dedicated following that a good underground band gets. Those guys almost never like it if "their" artist suddenly pulls in a bigger crowd, though you might think they'd be glad their boys are getting rich. It's like they feel a sense of ownership and don't want to share with the bigger crowd.
People who trash Metallica are fools. The " first 4 albums " dipshsits are children. These guys have always delivered ! St Anger is kinda hard to listen to, but it's got some good stuff. Load and Reload are amazing albums. Don't let anybody lie to you.
Opinions, everyone has them. To me they peaked on their first 5 legendary albums but especially MoP and AJFA (I'm just a regular fan, haha). I never expected them to just keep going like that cause you probably can't without repeating yourself, which they didn't do. And they got heavily influenced by the Grunge scene, especially Alice in Chains. They managed to put out great songs in a more Rock than Metal kind of style and I'd rather they (or any artist) do whatever they effin want, than what others tell them to. Also 85% or so of their setlists they keep touring with over the years are songs from the first 5 albums, and there is nothing wrong with that. They know these albums were groundbreaking and what made them the biggest metal act in the first place. Not hating on anyone disagreeing though.
there is a clear separation: the 1st four albums a LEGENDARY, timeless, institutions of Music history. The Loads are good, but they really do pale in comparison and in relevance.
Gimme fuel Gimme fire Gimme that which I desire! Love Metallica. Saw them in concert with System of a Down. Went with my adult son. What a great time it was.
"The Memory Remains" is another great one from this album. it's slower and more melodic, but it also features vocals by the legendary Marianne Faithful
I have been waiting for you to do this song for quite a long time. I'm sure you absolutely loved it. If you like their new stuff, you have to listen to "the day that never comes". It is military related and has a killer video, and is a magnificent song. Fast, heavy guitars and slow parts and multiple solos.
The drum fills in this song are nuts. It’s such a crunchy song and the snare just adds more to it. Check out Ain’t My Bitch. Both the intro tracks from Load and Reload are really good!
The Reload show was badass live. The stage took up the whole arena floor and was shaped like a guitar. Before the encore a technician comes out to fix a light up high over the stage and falls and gets electrocuted and the lights go out. Someone clicks on a single light bulb hanging from a string on the stage and the band is all gathered around close. The break into a long set of garage days revisited songs and other earliest songs. Was so F’n awesome.
I’m an old school Metallica fan but have come to really like their post AJFA stuff as well. It’s just different but still great music. Outlaw Torn or Bleeding Me should be next. Slow burn songs you’ll love, trust me.

Load and Reload were some of the greatest hard rock albums of the 90’s. Fans started to to go astray when the black album came out and then 5 years later Load was a shot in the face to many fans as they had a new look , cut their hair, and went a different directions music wise with more of a bulsey sound mixed into chunky hard rock riffs and melodic Harmonies. In my opinion it’s some of their most complex and interesting work they ever did during this era. 1.King Nothing, 2. Wasting my Hate 3.Ain’t my Bitch , 4. Bleeding me, 5. until it sleeps, 6. Fuel, 7. Devils dance , and 8.Unforgiven 2 and 9. Mama Said are the best songs from these albums in that order. But many others on those albums are fire 🔥
Bro we love all Metallica, dont listen to the haters! Outlaw torn at the end of the load album is one of the best songs they have ever written, cliff would have been proud of his bandmates! Respect brav
You like their old and new stuff because you like good music. You are not stuck on every band sounding exactly the same every album. The people who crap on post-Black album Metallica are stuck in a narrow view of what the band was and is supposed to be forever for them, i.e. “thrash band”. Don’t listen to those people, they will continue to miss out on all this amazing music you’re finding. Love what you love and make no apologies for it. 🤘
Load is an underrated album - it didn't quite live up to the Black Album, but it was still pretty good on its own... I'm a lot less keen on Reload as a whole, but this particular song kicks some major ass. Since we're doing newer Metallica, do yourself a favor and check out: "Bleeding Me."
Such an adrenaline boost! This was before St Anger, and everyone was still sounding great. Another amazing song is The Day That Never Comes off of the Death Magnetic album. The solo is sooo good!
Mettalica's Fuel released 6/22/98 (1998-06-22). Released on the 7th album - 3rd single - in '97. NASCAR - National Association for Stock Car Racing - used a "demo" version... called "Fuel for Fire" (with different lyrics) as it's NBC television theme song from 2001 until 2004 (Wikipedia). Fuel reached #6 on Billboard (USA). Fuel reached #31 on the UK singles chart (now called Official Singles Chart).
This song is great live with all the pyrotechnics! I’m old school Metallica and only listen to a few songs from load and reload but I’m not one of those haters about them. I love this song!!
God so much to say about this. Metallica will always be my number one for many reasons. Being able to change their sound whether intentional or not they maintained relevance throughout the 80s 90s 2000s 2010s and now the 2020s. This song has gotten old to me but I know how you felt hearing it for the first time. You truly have so much to hear.
Quote: "Ever since Metallica’s frontman James Hetfield shouted the words “Gimmie fuel, Gimmie fire, Gimme that which I desire” in the song Fuel, it has been known that he quenches his thirst with gasoline. Most bands evolve, and thats great. Trying new things and exploring is fine. Sticking to the tried and true is also fine (AC/DC as an example doesnt really change it up). The problem many have with this era of Metallica is that they didnt stay true to themselves while evolving. As they grew and evolved over the first 5 albums, they did heavy stuff, they did ballads, they did fast and slow, they wrote thought provoking lyrics, and through it all it was "Metallica". After their self titled album, the next 3 were all about pushing further into modern rock and away from their metal roots, as well as (and maybe more importantly) chasing the popular trends in music. Load and Reload were chasing the success and sounds of 90's grunge music and both have such a heavy Alice In Chains influence that once your ear picks it out, you wont be able to unhear it. St Anger was chasing the Nu Metal wave of heavy music without solos and a more rustic sound. Load and ReLoad were good efforts at taking grunge and doing it in the style of Metallica, St Anger is what it is for more reasons than just the trend chasing. From Death Magnetic forward they have seemed to fall back into not chasing musical trends and just creating what they enjoy. They have great music across their full catalogue, in spite of the decisions to chase the trends.
Metallica is one of the greatest bands of all time no question about it. Atlas Rise and Moth Into Flame are fire also. Highly recommend reacting to those!!
Musically the load/reload era was maybe the best for Metallica. But different. I love it. The vocals are great and the production as well. The hitsingles are good, but my favorites are The Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer and Carpe Diem Baby
It takes someone like you that didn't come up with the early albums to be objective and recognize the greatness of all their eras. Some people can't evolve with their music, and that's fine, but it blinds them from enjoying so much. Great reaction!
As someone who listened to metallica since i was 7.. Yes im old.. I never ever stopped, well ok maybe less after saint anger.. But them having short hair or changing their looks and sounds, had nothing to do with it, Load and Re-load are criminally under-rated albums..

Lux Aeterna, released just last year, is pretty good.
Metallica is one of the greatest bands of all time no question about it. Atlas Rise and Moth Into Flame are fire also. Highly recommend reacting to those!!
This was before St Anger by several years.....I'm always energized after listening to this song
🙏Next...The Cult..."Fire Woman"
Nice choice, my boy!!...One of my all time favorite Metallica tunes....takes you from 0 to 150 from the start...🤘🤘🍻🍻
Great video. Always dug this one. Nice drop MB 🤜💥🤛
Metallica - Mama Said
As someone who listened to metallica since i was 7.. Yes im old.. I never ever stopped, well ok maybe less after saint anger.. But them having short hair or changing their looks and sounds, had nothing to do with it, Load and Re-load are criminally under-rated albums..
I look forward to your videos. They make my day !
