Nowadays its almost unfashionable to appreciate the generation from the world war two era. The 30 years after that war, is what made Australia into a great place to live. The vast majority loved their country and its culture. Though in the last 30 years, its become splintered and is on the verge of losing its soul.
I think it has a lot to do with a lack of neighbours. People's houses now have a door through to the garage which has automatic doors and the driveway has automatic gates. When going out, you get to the garage through the connecting door, flip the garage doors open and closed with a remote, use a remote to open and close the gates and you're out of there with few to no people actually out in the street. Neighbours don't know each other any more. When we were kids, everyone in the street knew each other and kept an eye out for each other and their kids. Now the streets are empty. If kids are playing, the neighbours put in a complaint. Sad really.
Mateship comes from realising that you cannot survive alone . In the hard times to come we are all going to suffer and need each other. We will help others and rely on them to help us. When you have been through the mill with a mate a bond is formed. The hotter the fire the stronger the bond. Australia has for the last 30 years been a paradise for most with no struggle this has to end sometime history tells us this.
