The movie BANAWE which was directed by National Artist Gerardo De Leon and produced by another National Artist Nora Aunor with an ensemble cast of top rated acting icons led by Nora Aunor and Christopher De Leon, is a movie that highlighted indigenous Filipino tribes which are often overlooked in Filipino society. It was a masterpiece. But then, even in films and elsewhere, indigenous Filipino tribes are never given importance in most societies.

According to Martin Scorsese and The Criterion Collection in the US, Lino Brocka's Manila in the Claws of Light (Maynila Sa Kuko ng Liwanag) is the grestest filipino film because it captures how bleak the society stands out and how much a person can lose its innocence in a Libertarian Dystopia.
