Thanks for the video Tomo! It looks like the model of the guitar is a Boden Standard NX 7, which goes for around $1800. The Boden Essential only comes in 6 string for now.
Great guitar. Jealous. That tube screamer pillow I want one. There is also Ron Eschete and also Ron Jackson and especially George Van Epps who is one of the pioneers of the 7 string.
Ron Eschete is a fabulous 7 string jazz player. I’d recommend listening to him for 7 string jazz ideas. I think some players tune the 7th string down to an A so you can use existing voicings without having to learn all new ones. Excited to see you play this guitar more!
Tomo-Sensei never "Talks to Much" every word seems to be a slice of wisdom!! Lenny Breau actually was doing alot of 7 string playing near the end of his life, so the lowest string is a B in standard tuning...most modern metal players drop the low string to A etc etc. to have access to bar chord/double stop riffing for more "aggressive tonalities". Can't wait to see what you wonderful sounds you craft on that fine instrument!!
I bought the real book and I’m making myself read music everyday now. I feel so much better about myself that I started doing that. I used to be so afraid of sheet music. I would love to hear you plug that guitar in and play a little after you think of a few cool riffs. Love you brother , thanks for sharing .😊❤
I'm 71....and I have taken a dive into the 8 String guitars! (Skipping the 7 string!) I used to play a fair amount of Baritone guitar used in some of my Ambient Music. The 8 String (and I'm sure the 7 as well) can give you even more range with one guitar! I use the "dropped "E" tuning on the 8 string guitars.
Welcome to the 7-String club! Charlie Hunter is my favorite extended range player. Also are you aware of Bucky Pizzarelli? He is a great 7-string jazz player who is sadly no longer with us.
You could tune the G string to Gb. Turns the guitar into a baritone guitar with an extra high string. You can use your normal guitar vocabulary and chord voicings for the first 6 strings then incorporate the extra high e string in other ways. Super excited to see you dive into this new guitar !
Thank you so much for sharing! Wow what a wonderful looking guitar, looks and sounds great. The rain coat I believe must be to help cover the carrying bag when it's starts to rain? outside maybe? the fretts and the pick-ups and bridge seem a little off set? I often wondered if that helps with tuning or makes you play better or just a new style. Again thanks for sharing.
Hey loving all your videos question you were saying the patterns for that is available where would be a good place to get an idea written down ? Also how are you finding the guitar ?
I gotta go with the guys from Korn as they really embraced 7-strings all the time. Steve Vai: "I Would Love To" , "The Audience is Listening" and everything on Whitesnake's "Slip of the Tongue" album.
Thanks Tomo. I'm curious how you approached playing a 7 string for the first time. Is it a whole different approach, like learning a new instrument? Or is it like a normal 6 string but adding in the top low b as needed? Also, good breakdown on the thumb slapping technique. So, you are hitting the up stroke string with your thumb as well as the down slaps? Sounds cool.
What are the notes on a 7-string guitar? Is the extra string on the low end or the high end? It's very hard to tell on this video. I *think* there's an extra low string, but I can't be certain. Can you make a video of you playing this after you've had some time to practice? I'm very interested to see how one plays a 7-string guitar.
I play exclusively on 7-string guitars and I don't recommend using the 7th string as a bass string because I find that it limits the perception of the instrument a lot. Really nice Strandberg btw, love your videos ❤
strandbergs are resonant probably because they usually have hollow bodies. Congrats for your new strandberg. I am actually trying to sell my boden nx 7 😅 in charcoal black
@@TomoFujitaMusic Before I decide to study any technique I always check it there's any body of music which has been created using that approach. Two-handed tapping for instance has to be taken as a valid style because so many guitarists use it and a lot of music has been created using that technique.
No disrespect but here is how u get vibrato like Michael schenker. U first listen but not to the amp. U listen to nowhere but ur still listening. This makes the vibrato way louder. Practice and record to test if ur doing it right. The separate part is u make it with ur soul. Soul vibrato. U don't control where it's going but u just do it and it does what u want it to. Like how magneto moves metal. Extra unnecessary is to keep string in back area during vibrtao. Do not use toothpaste with fluoride

So happy to hear that! I teach more detail lessons at my Guitar Wisdom.
Best way to get comfortable with a 7 string is to ignore the seventh string and play it like a 6 for a few months
Thank you for sharing! Clever!
@@TomoFujitaMusic worked for me anyway!

That's not an Essential... I got hopeful for a minute there.

But what's the point of playing a guitar as if it is a bass except for a bit of fun. Is it really a meaningful guitar technique?
No points! Just for fun! No reasons! Good times!
