A very convinient thing about real life racing is a phenomenon called "slipstream", it's when a car/object goes so fast that it creates a vacuum behind them, and this vacuum creates a opportunity for the car that's behind to go faster because the force of the wind isn't there to push it back. Because of that, races are much more than just "drive as fast as you can", or else there wouldn't be much variety or fun in racing. Well, atleast that would be a solution to make your game's bots stop going in a set straight line, but items also work super well, specially for more arcade-ish games.
