- In this video I teach you how to paint Hydrangea with acrylic paints. I will walk you through each step and teach you how to mix all of your own colors using just the three primaries plus white. I hope you will join me!

I'm using Qualita Gold Taklon brand brushes from www.jerrysartarama.com
You can get some really great deals from Jerry's Artarama or Dick Blick Art.
You don't have to get these exact brushes. These are just what I use.
Any brand will do fine. ;)
5/8" Angular (medium brush)
#8 Filbert .

Wow. I was thinking the exact same thing. @Debbie you are really an amazing teacher. I have learned a lot from you in a short amount of time. I've been dealing with some pretty serious depression myself and my neighbor gave me a beautiful bouquet of hydrangeas (which I never really thought I cared for and was the only video of yours that I hadn't even considered attempting) but you were so beautiful and they lifted my spirits and I immediately thought of you and your video so here I am @lorrane I'm right there with you girl but it will get better. We just have to speak it into existence consistently ❤🤗

I think all of us is kind of going through a depression because of this COVID-19 and I get very sad when I watch you paint it’s so beautiful years ago I was raising four kids and a house and a husband and I had already painted two beautiful pictures and he told me that I couldn’t paint anymore unless the house was perfectly clean and I have always always keep my house clean and every woman knows A woman’s work is never done your always having to pick up after the kids and the husband but I let him steal my joy away that God gave me my dad painted also so it’s in the blood I guess you would say well anyway I love you all so very much thank you sweetheart for showing us how to really do the Beautiful flowers ! The right way !!!

Ohhhh this breaks my heart. I can relate in more ways than you know. It’s so hard trying to be a good mom, good wife and good everything to everyone else. You HAVE to find some time for yourself. It’s the only way to feed your soul. If you aren’t happy on the inside you’re no good to anyone else. Trust me on this. All of your loved ones will benefit from your inner joy.

Now, I plan on ordering the 5/8 Angular Medium brush, but I’m confused as I cannot find “ medium” brush. Is it long or short? Debbie, how do you get your paints to glide so smoothly on the canvas? Do you prep it with gesso? I am having difficulty spreading and blending 😩

Beautiful! Do you used extender with your paints to slow the drying time? The way your paints blend on your canvas is beautiful.
Patti Clark Hi Patti! I don’t use an extender because I tend to paint pretty fast. I do usually add a touch of water to keep my paints flowing.

Love this and love your paper palette. What kind/brand is that? I always use foam picnic plates. lol
I used to use foam picnic plates for the classes I taught. They work great too! The paper palette brand is Jerry’s from www.jerrysartarama.com

Hi Debbie , really loving your content. I am wondering if a large filbert brush, as opposed to an angular brush would be a good substitute!? TIA ❤
matsamnic fam a filbert brush would work great for the petals but I like using the angular brush for the parts with sharper edges and skinny lines like on the leaves and stems. But that just my personal preference. I’d suggest experimenting with what you’ve got and see which one you prefer. :)

Anjana Mahanta Anjana Mahanta Hi Anjana! Thanks for the nice comment. You can use water to dilute your paints but sometimes too much water can break down the paint too much so you can also use a glazing medium. I like Liquitex brand glazing medium.

Lovely painting. I feel your stems are too thin to hold up those big flower heads. My stems are very thick and woody like a finger. Otherwise they look excellent.
I can now see that I tend to finish my paintings way too soon.
