There used to be a Ramada Inn in Needles. Stayed there once back in 1963. I was a second grader from Oklahoma headed to Downey with my brother, sister, and mother. Mom had a new job with Rockwell. Love those days when everyone got along.

When my daughter and I live in Kingman, AZ. We to drive up to Laughlin, Nevada to see a movie. On the way home we would drive the back road to Needles to ride Route 66. We really enjoy the ride. The old style 1960's Dennys is now Chinese Restaurant. Thanks for sharing your video.

@jeffthisted You Welcome! There is nothing much left in Needles, California except the railroad, Post Office, a bank, and a few fash food places and a couple of gas stations .

Nice tour through Needles. Your car sounds great, and i like the Corvette grille. i stopped here a few years ago to see the train station after visiting The LA Posada in Winslow.

I love that you included the Needles Theater and didn't just do motels. Btw, the old station in Ruscha's 1963 book at 2:30 in your video was actually further south, at 8:40 in the video (now an empty lot). Fun stuff!

Thanks for a nostalgic trip thru that town. I commuted there from Lake Havasu City 23 years for work. I love the history of that town but modern politics leave a lot to be desired.

@@jeffthisted i worked for Basha's Market. It was located at the Needles Town Center next to Rite Aid where I40 crosses east Broadway. I met my wife there. Was taught and treated well there by one of the best bosses I will ever have. Great memories there.

What a dusty town. It was a crap hole 15 years ago. No good memories there. Just the CA DMV
I liked Needles 15 years ago too @alanbelliston700 especially all the old motels.
My dad built houses with that "boomerang" style roof here in St Charles, IL. He called them " ding bats". Love this video and would love to drive 66 as an adult. I'm pretty sure we did it when I was 5 or 6.

Wow, a padded dash in a '55 Chevy. I prefer the stock grill. My daily driver in the '70's was a '55 Chevy 210 with a 327, 4 speed and 4:56's.
I dig the TMI padded dash too @rickuyeda4818 but I prefer the Corvette grill over the stock one.

Also, I'm not convinced that Carty's Camp is as old as pretty much every website shows. The National Old Trails Road was behind it, so unless they moved it to the 2nd generation of 66 (the one your video is on), it was probably built around 1929 or the early 30s when 66 was realigned a bit to the east.

I know that they realigned the NOT and Route 66 a few times. That makes sense. Now I’ll have to do some research. Let me know if you find anything else out about it.
I hate to see Needles stagnating like it has. Lots of boarded up houses and businesses. I was born there in the old hospital that used to be right in front of the train station in 1958. Graduated 1976. Lots of memories. My mom still lives in the same house for 54 years now. The people they bought it from had lived in it 50 years and it was built around 1918, so I think it has only had two owners in 104 years. It's just one street north and two blocks up the street from the 66 Motel.

I see that fuel is $6.50. Wow. Here in west ky it's $3/gallon.
Gasoline is super expensive in CA that's why I always fill up in AZ!! It's a lot cheaper!!
Thought for a minute you were going to get gas at the Mobil lol. I cringe every time I see anyone filling up on the CA side. Drive over the bridge and it's about $2.50/gal cheaper. l
Thanks @Michael Bell !! I know better than filling up in CA!! When in Needles I always go to a 76 station a little north on 95. I don't know why, but they've always got the best price on gasoline.

Take a look at my video to Oatman - it get a whole lot less flat going up and over Sitegraves Pass.
In fact the Oatman Highway is my favorite part of Route 66
It's not Needles Cal anymore the city changed the name to Weedles Cal 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Needles Chamber of Commerce said the name change is still under review @Sean
