Fun idea I don't know if anyone has come up with for an outertale au: Every monster's power and lifeforce is connected to a star somewhere in the universe. The bigger the star the more powerful the monster, but the less time they likely have left. If the star becomes a supernova, the monster will have until the end of the supernova before they die, gaining a massive boost in power during that short time left (Undyne the Undying type of thing). Although, I'm not sure how well someone can make this work, as this would theoretically mean monsters now live for a very long time, and the Undying fight might last for months. (Maybe to make up for this, monsters just have kids less often, and the supernova process is sped up by the repeated damage from frisk? Or you can just keep it as is to make them op lol.)
