All the things John mentions imagining NOT having are all the things that divide and/or cause conflict. Total peace will never happen as long as all those things exist....but I can dream, can't I?
I remember my English teacher from high school back in 2010 one morning before class started she said come here and we sat down together, she had this pulled up on the computer and we listened to it, I never heard the song before that. This moment I believe it changed my life some how, I really liked her and she was nice to me. I wonder how she is doing now.
A song so appropriate for today's climate. 52 years on since its release and not much has changed. But like he says - great poet John was - we can still dream. "Watching the Wheels" is another great John Lennon tune you might want to react to. ✌️ 👍 "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one"
The best song ever written, and the most profound. Simple but perfect. Such a shame that the vast majority of humanity don't appear to agree with these sentments.
One of the most beautiful, heartfelt and moving songs ever written. Exactly to your point, almost all our conflicts can be traced to religious and/or political differences, greed and dogmatic thinking. John spoke his mind and tried to change the world with his words, actions and music for peace and paid a price for with his immigration status fight. It’s a shame that what he imagined the world should be and hoped for over 50 years ago still hasn’t changed for the better and we seem to be even more polarized each day.
There is too much hate in this world. Anger doesn't solve problems; it creates nothing and destroys everything. Why? Listening to your channel brings me comfort and makes me smile and forget all the darkness for a while. Thanks for that. You're a very humble, kind, and intelligent young man. We old dawgs in our 70s and 80s appreciate your views and wisdom.
Such a beautiful song. So simple but honest. It’s so horrifying that John Lennon was taken from us in such a violent manner. I will never ever “get over” his senseless murder. At least he left us some wonderful messages. 🌺✌️
I also admire his courage for speaking for peace even though the government were not striving for this dream. I'm thankful there are still some people left in the world who share his sentiments ❤
It was an ideological time, and John was a true believer in human potential for living better together. It's part of what made him controversial, but it's also part of what made him a great aritst/songwriter, that passion for what he felt was right or wrong made his music deeply connected to the human condition.
Imagine is my favorite John Lennon song. It takes me to a peaceful place in my mind. Music has been my salvation and has got me through bad times and it always makes good times better. Thank you for sticking with simply Music which makes your videos more appealing!
Although _no one_ can top Lennon's original rendition of this song, I also like hearing Scott Bakula's cover which was featured in an episode of "Quantum Leap" because, when I hear that version, I recall the outstanding acting of a 13 year old Olivia Burnette who, while listening to Scott's rendition, went from happiness to crying _without a camera cut._ The look on young Olivia's face switching between these two opposite emotions is priceless and would be quite an accomplishment for _any_ actor, let alone a 13 year old.
Before Alan White joined Yes, he played on a couple of Lennon tracks. This is one of them. Thought you might like to know, as you've taken such a liking to Yes!
This song came out when it was most needed and was a powerful social statement that helped move the social needle a little bit. Its effect seems to have been short-term, however.
I still remember the exact moment I heard John Lennon was murdered. I was watching Monday night football. Announcer Howard Cosell told the nation. At the time I was completely crushed and wept.
I was working at a public radio station in Alaska when the news of John's murder came on the Associated Press teletype. Coincidentally, it was my 25th birthday. I haven't celebrated a birthday since. Yesterday was my 69th, and I still mourn for John.
I Believe that if we all do those Peaceful acts in our own lives, with the people we interact with, it will create a Peaceful place for you and those you know. Our own personal behavior is all we can control. This song is like a lullaby to me ~ it's soothing and comforting to know I am not alone. Peace and Love to all who choose it!
The strength of this song, I feel, lies in alerting people to what is actually possible at this time in human history. For most of civilization, what John discusses here was not a possibility due to lack of resources, organization, infrastructure, the general level of productivity, etc. But for the past century and a half these obstacles have all but faded into obscurity. All that remains is for the people of the world (chiefly, the organized working class) to become conscious of this, overthrow those who currently wield power and stand in the way of progress, and implement a more just and harmonious form of society. It can be done. It either will or will not. What will come will be determined in struggle.
when lennon mentioned "no religion" he was talking about organized and "state" religions that force conformity to a certain belief system. he wan't talking about "spirituality." the reality is ALL individuals have MUCH MORE in common that our leadership would have us believe. our differences are superficial. but our commonalities are instrinsic human nature. our differences are intensified and exploited by our so-called ruling elite who want us in a constant state of suspicion, hate and conflict so THEY stay in power. they pit us against each other so we can't, or won't UNITE against them. as soon as most blind people figure this out and stop playing this game of "divide-and-conquer" we can HAVE the world that lennon, and so many others, "imagine."
Love John Lennon, my favorite Beatle. My favorite Lennon song is Jealous Guy featuring Nicky Hopkins on piano. It’s beautifully raw and one of his best songs. ✌️♥️🎶

when i see this music video i can't help but think how unfair it was that john and yoko didn't get to grow old together. say what you will about yoko's role in the breakup of the beatles, she was the love of john's life, and the irony is not lost that a man of peace and love was so violently taken from yoko and the world by a monster with no regard for his fellow human. as long as those kinds of people exist things will never change. sad to say, in the words from another lennon song, "the dream is over".
Regarding your commentary at the end...I've definitely cut people out of my life due to politics or religion. But that's bc their political or religious beliefs included believing certain people deserve fewer rights than others--or shouldn't even exist at all. Those are things I can't get past & I don't regret losing those people. There are just some things I can't ignore or find common ground on. And once I know that's what a person believes, I can't un-know it--even if we'd been friends since grade school.
"To bad Jack Lemon it'n wif Beetle know more." ~Geoff Rowe-Beaudine Thanks for your beautiful response, and may it be many fabulous decades before you see John over the rainbow bridge. And don't mind Geoff Rowe...he cray. Peace on Earth.
He just said “IMAGINE” Saying that you’re not political or I don’t vote. Is in itself political,no one gets a get out of jail free card,by not participating you are participating because you didn’t make a difference, you made a difference. And not in a good way. His words influenced millions for the betterment of humanity one person at a time do something make this place a little better because this is the only place you don’t need a degree in astrophysics human beings can’t live in space long enough go anywhere. Give the song Hey Jude, a listen… The name of the game is not the game of life. The name of the game is you can’t win you get dealt your cards. The best you can do is play your cards so that you lose less but everybody loses. Hard truth sucks. I get up every day and I try very hard to not make it worse and and no Matter how small a difference I make to make it better for others I will do something to make it better. Because that’s how it gets better. One individual interacting with another on an intimate person to person that’s it nothing more nothing less.
I became more politically aware around 85 when my first child was born. It was also when I stumbled on NPR. I became aware that I wasn't getting the whole story. Unfortunately, our current media seems to benefit from dividing us. Some call it 'angertainment'.
I've been pushing for a one-world social democracy, (NOT socialism, but regulated free enterprise) without borders, for decades, echoing John's message. We wouldn't have all these wars or starvation.
'He described the song's meaning and explicated its commercial appeal: "Anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic, but because it is sugarcoated it is accepted ... Now I understand what you have to do.'
Beautiful song. Lyrics sound great, in theory. Not very likely to become reality. Kind of ironic that he sings it sitting in a giant mansion, with a huge white room, holding an expensive grand piano, with millions of dollars in the bank.
Truly a beautiful melody. But the lyrics are straight out of the Communist Manifesto. He wasn't just dreaming about world peace, he was behind a political ideology. @@intothesunset3 Her singing doesn't really appeal to me, either, but I have heard her sing in various ways that are all different. It's probably because she is and always has been more into performance art than strictly singing. I know she had vocal training in Japan, and was classically trained on piano too. Someone on UYT analyzed her vocals, and showed that she is a very accurate singer. One song I do like that she sang on with John is The Luck of the Irish.
