It’s fun to see someone folding fabric like I’ve been folding for years. I also have the mesh cubes, and yes, the plastic connectors are a pain! I wish I had thought of the zip ties🙂 Thanks for your very helpful videos!
Great idea for using the zip ties! I have the same metal dividers stacked with the plastic clips... not for long though, I will be changing them to zip ties now! Thank you very much!
I am so glad Kate sent us to you. I am afraid I have spent last 2 days binging on your tutorials. I just spent several days “organizing my scraps and yardage.I had folded all my fat quarters into the small fat quarter size and filled numerous drawers with them. You demonstrated folding with the six inch ruler and I decided your placement in the cubes on a shelf might work for me as a better way to store and I would have fewer fold lined to iron out. Did you do all your fat quarters that way? Was thinking I could separate the fat quarters out into one cube or section but am also worried about dust. Any hints?
You can use what ever you want I like the thicker 8 weight thread my favorite is Wonderfil razzel thread it is 8 weight rayon and I use a size 1 or 3 long darner needle or you can use a 12 weight thread with a size 5 darner
Great video. Quick and to the point while still showing exactly how to do something. I use the comic board method, but I think I might try this once I run out of the boards. :)
@@terryrowland398 The ruler way is a good method because anyone can use it. I do like the extra bit of sturdiness the boards provide, but it's definitely not necessary.
Someone measured space used before and after comic boards and the no boards 6" took much less overall space. I use 2 occasional cut foam boards to place above and below, if I want to remove a chunk or so of fabric to preview and put back. I don't have cool cubes that I can place the comic brd wrapped vertically like many beautiful pictures show. Just fyi!
I get all my thrift sore but you can buy them on Amazon or Walmart even. They are usually put together with round plastic things I throw those out and zip tie them together
If I cut some off of a yard… do I even up by slicing that leftover piece off making it squared off and cut into squares…? I’m very new at this quilting obsession and want (need) to get and stay organized! I hope this makes sense!

I actually used this method last year when I reorganized my sewing room, so much neater and I can see what I’ve got!

Yes this has been my way for years also I did not think others did not know until I took a pic of my fabrics and so many asked how I did it

I have my fabric in the basement so light is not a problem for my fabric I suppose it could get dusty but I have not noticed that
I do this fold for my fabric using an 8" ruler and some bins on my shelves. Works well. Thank you.

No I would just fold the odd edge in and fold and set on your shelf

I do the same thing the folded edge tells me how much is in the piece of fabric the wider the edge the more yardage on the piece

I fold my fabric that way but my shelves are open wire with no dividers, where do you find the cubes? My piles tend to lean.
The cubes can be bought on Amazon I believe the come with the plastic circles that just clip together I use zip ties and buy all mine in thrift stores
