Strabane Flood 1987

At 01:55am on the morning of 22nd October 1987, Strabane town suffered a flood that would leave homes and businesses destroyed. This is a short video taken by Aidan McKelvey at the time with interviews with local people and businesses affected along with video of those being rescued.

I'm from Strabane, I haven't lived there for years now but I do remember this day very well!

It was strange that day we had our own search and rescue none of us felt we could acknowledge any help from anyone in a uniform... we sorted our own problems those days..A lot of memories seeing all those old faces many have passed away... but we still queued for the flood damage sales a month later! You can take the lad out of strabane but you can't take the strabane out of the lad!
