You guys know all the best food spots! I'm traveling to Rotterdam for the first time in September and I might just literally copy all the menu items you chose 😋
Love you guys! I’m from Louisiana! Currently in Zoetermeer! My kids are born in Houston and now Dutch! We have been back and forth married to both countries since 2009! Love your energy, grace and style! No more Austin traffic and Hippy Hollow right?! Love your channel! Would love to meet y’all ! 🎉😊
that’s awesome - and thank you for the kind words! i can’t say we miss austin traffic but we did enjoy an occasional visit to hippie hollow 😅 let us know if you’re ever in rotterdam!
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Hi Michelle & Alex, Your videos are really nice, i love watching them. The coffee place you were referring to in the beginning isn't called Coffee So So, it is called Kopi Soesoe (pronounce as Kopee soosoo or susu) which is Indonesian for Coffee with Milk (Kopi Susu). Due to history there is a strong connection with Indonesia in Holland, and there are much Indonesian influences in Holland. Greetings from (salam dari) Bali - Indonesia
@@buncharted Yes, really... In those days it also was a quite empoverised neighborhood. The municipality back then thought they could wipe out prostitution in the city by closing down all brothels in Katendrecht. They were wrong, because prostitution spread over the city and problematic forms of prostitution also emerged. Katendrecht on the other hand got renovated and has become the nice place you know.
I always love the 'outsiders perspective' of people visiting our city. But I can't really call you visitors can i..? As I understand you're local now :) Nice vid and welcome!
1:05, okay, you use a piece of bread to CLEAR OUT THE PAN, jeeez ... (Haha, a bit of the o'l Dutch efficiency habits here. Plus eating out is just plain expensive.)
I’m a bit surprised you mispronounce Binnen Rotte and correctly pronounce Rotterdam. The Rotte is the river Rotterdam was named after. The Binnen ( inside) Rotte is where it used to run. Rotte is pronounced exactly the same as Rotter - dam. By the way if you think the Park near the Euro mast is massive try the Kralingse Bos sometime.
Katendrecht used to be the ghetto close to maashaven and africanplein. Nice to see the juppies took over and turned it into a nice place. It used to be a rough corner.
Yeah really nice that all the people who lived there can no longer afford to, and their communities were ripped apart. There was probably no way to respect the locals, who often had nothing to do with the crime, while making things better🙄. Nice to see how solidarity works in our city. You people are cruel. Really cruel.
@@michalovesanime - the area was a no go zone, now it is livable, and you complain? If the “community” took care of their surroundings, the change would not be needed…
Nice but travel to Belgium 🇧🇪 is nice too and Germany 🇩🇪 like the Citys of Cologne and Düsseldorf and Bonn and Coblenz.Munich and Hamburg of course too.
@@buncharted I haven't try at that place yet. But I recommend Doner company, you can find the restaurants at trainstations🙂 I had kapsalon from the cafetaria Anytime but the lettuce was brown and wet from the shoarma fat🤢
A bit too heavy on the hipster food for my taste. I mean sure, its probably good, but that type of food is pretty much available in every large city. Rotterdam is a legendary "down to earth" place where much of the traditional working class folks would probably just laugh about "trendy" food items and would say thats the sort of thing snobs from Amsterdam would eat. Review a Kapsalon! A real Rotterdam dish, invented by a hairdresser who always ordered a custom meal at the kebab shop next door, hence the name.

03:51 was the place to be in the 9ties when Parkzicht dominated the house scene.
Best time of my life :)
This is a great video. My wife and i born and raised in Rotterdam and still live here. Thanks for sharing our beautiful city. Cheers Arnold & Debra

Great review of what Rotterdam has to offer 😊👍
The matcha desert looked SO good!

Great tour! It's so awesome to live somewhere where you can do little adventures like this on any day. I really like those public markets.
Just subscribed! Thanks for a great video.
welcome :)
Welcome to Rotterdam! Katendrecht is a cool neighborhood, I often walk there during my lunch breaks :)
Omg you guys are living my dream 🥹🥹
LOVE IT
The Macha shop looks great
Hi there, nice video. BTW, did you know that Katendrecht used to be the red-light district of Rotterdam until the 70ies?
REALLY? that is so interesting! it’s such a beautiful little neighborhood.

Katendrecht was one of the first Chinatowns in Europe!
3:13 ja daar heb ik heel veel voetstappen staan en jaren door de fiets tunnel gefiest in de jaren 70
Try Munzur Turkish restaurant, north of Central Station.

we ran out of bread 😫
With the watertaxi to Dordrecht and have lunch at Villa Augustus.
Tosti's are usually eaten as lunch .
It's not a common breakfast dish
Definitely not a breakfast food.....
Did you not notice the roof of the Markthal? It's gorgeous and another more colourful landmark of Rotterdam.
oh yes, it’s gorgeous. incredible building
Rotterdam, what's not to like?! Welcome home!
Love your nails. 💅🏻
nice video keep going on

Frank Geurts, loempia has its origins
in Indonesia not Vietnam
Funny i thought Vietnam because lf the vietnamese ones which i love. Never thought of fact checking it. 🤔
Actually, as the name already shows, originally it's Chinese.
In Vietnam they're not even called lumpia, but cha gio.
Shakshuka hands down one of my favorite dishes -- for any time of the day!

i walked through the maastunnel once...perfect setting for a horror movie...every other time i went on my bicycle, thats less creepy
haha, the whole thing is covered with security cameras. otherwise, i’d feel the same way!

Rotterdam, Amsterdam. Utrecht is also a nice town. Or Gent
😎😎😎
Katendrecht? At night? Not something you would've heard when I were a lad...
My school town
Im suprised you didn't walk over the erasmusbridge, it gives an amazing view
that’s true! we walk across it quite often - would have been nice to include in the video :)
@@buncharted haha yes, I live in katendrecht and love the walk!! And glad you enjoy it here so much;) have you already been to the ss Rotterdam?
i haven’t! though when we took the water taxi to the south side of the maastunnel, the driver kept trying to drop us off there 😆

Cinnamon roll for breakfast?????? and eating it with a fork!!!!! Wha-

Ham is not vegetarian ;)
tell that to domino’s pizza
(they put ham on our vegan pizza in our domino’s pizza netherlands video, haha)

we have a separate dutch food vlog coming up so tried to keep it separate - don’t worry, that video will have kapsalon!!!
Rotterdam the best city of the world! Haha......... (No it is not, it is in the middle!)
I thought you fancy more a real american domino pizza 😁
haha no, that was just for science ;-). we don’t prefer dominos pizza.

We also call the local market, the market, de markt, or even more Dutch, de mart. Despite the place or having a special name.
i can’t imagine anyone calling it “binnenrotte center market” 😄
Actually, for fish and fresh produce, the Wednesday Afrikaanderplein market is even better!
zeg geen tosti maar grilled cheese
