    Like these PM episodes, My Mom told me Lee Meriwether was a former Miss America, I don't know if I was born yet though. I remember this show because when I got home from Grade School, this would just be starting,, But that was the Regular Match Game. I liked all the laughter and Audience participation when I was a kid. Still watching here in 2019.;)

    H/H match update:
    (Spoilers)
    ~~~~~
    Trivia:
    This week's stars and their total appearances on the daytime series:
    Brett Somers (286 weeks total. First week: 11-15; Final week: 1451-1455)
    Richard Dawson (257 weeks total. First week: 1-5; Final week: 1281-1285)
    Charles Nelson Reilly (235 weeks total. First week: 11-15; Final week: 1441-1445)
    Betty White (75 weeks total. First week: 11-15; Final week: 1421-1425)
    Lee Meriwether (12 weeks total. First week: 116-120; Final week: 1436-1440)
    George Kennedy (5 weeks total. First week: 666-670; Final week: 1166-1170)
    The first four stars' head-to-head stats for the '73-'79 daytime series are shown in the big leader board (below).
    Lee matched 2 out of her 3 attempts (66.7%) during her stint on "Match Game '7x".
    George matched 2 out of 2.
    More trivia:
    To the best of my knowledge, George is one of only three MG stars to have won an Academy Award. (Let me know in the comments if I've forgotten anyone.)
    1) George Kennedy won his Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "Cool Hand Luke" (1967).
    2) Patty Duke won her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in "The Miracle Worker" (1962).
    (George and Patty appeared together the week of 1166-1170 - a truly star-studded week!)
    3) Marvin Hamlisch (episodes 621-625) won 3 Academy Awards (all in one night in 1974) in three music categories.
    Additionally, Fannie Flagg would go on to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" (1992).
    ~~~~~
    Here are the H/H stats for the PM series so far:
    Star: Matches/Attempts/Match %
    Charles: 2/2/100%
    Brett: 3/4/75.0%
    Richard: 16/24/66.7%
    EBR*: 5/8/62.5%
    Betty: 0/1/0%
    Fannie: 0/1/0%
    *EBR = Everybody but Richard. Just like it sounds, a combination of everyone but Richard, for the sake of comparison.
    *Includes the results of all head-to-head matches in the "Match Game PM" series from episode 1 through episode 33 (note: there was no H/H match in episode 11 due to a double audience match fail).
    For comparison, here are the stats for the complete "Match Game 7x" series (including only the stars who scored at least 3 matches):
    Star: Matches/Attempts/Match %
    Orson Bean: 4/4/100%
    Jo Anne Worley: 3/4/75.0%
    Debralee Scott: 4/6/66.7%
    Gary Burghoff: 8/14/57.1%
    Joyce Bulifant: 4/7/57.1%
    Charles: 48/94/51.1%
    Elaine Joyce: 3/6/50.0%
    Betty: 25/53/47.2%
    Fannie: 21/45/46.7%
    Jo Ann Pflug: 8/18/44.4%
    Bill Daily: 4/9/44.4%
    Marcia Wallace: 3/7/42.9%
    Richard: 373/878/42.5%
    Brett: 45/110/40.9%
    Bert Convy: 5/15/33.3%
    Nipsey Russell: 3/12/25.0%
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1455, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. (Note: episode 849 was never produced.) These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036. These stats do, however, include results of episodes 1309 through 1317, found on channels other than this one. (For missing episode 1406, the results of the second H/H have been revealed and are included in these stats, but it's unknown which celeb played the first H/H, which was not a match.)

    The PM episodes seemed more canned than the daytime shows. Both are good just in different ways.

    • @kevansf
      @kevansf 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      First I watched the entire '73-'79 series in order. Now I'm here to see my old MG "friends" again, and although I like these shows, they're not nearly as much fun as the regular series. One thing that appealed to about the daytime series was its "lawlessness" - anything could happen. They could abandon the game for a few moments to sing, do a skit, argue about an answer, roast one another. Antics galore. Sometimes they didn't even finish a single game in an episode, other times they had two complete Super-Match rounds. We might start in the middle of a tie-breaker or with the head-to-head or with a new challenger being introduced. It much more Show and much less game.
      This edition is tightly structured because they must fit an entire game and Super-Match in, no more, no less, so there's a lot leeway for hijinks, and, consequently, less spontaneity and less fun.
      One odd gameplay wrinkle in the PM edition is that the second round always begins with the contestant who's already ahead, thus ensuring that the game lasts all four questions; in the main version, the challenger goes first both rounds, so if s/he doesn't at least tie the champion, the game is over right then and the champion wins without ever hearing her second-round question. Of course, they had to do that to prevent a game from ending prematurely which would make for a too-short episode.
      Also, the H/H questions are far easier in the PM version. I think in part it's because the winning contestants only get one shot at the big money, and partly because they like ending on a happy note with a big winner (less important on the daytime version since the program so rarely ended right after a H/H).

      @Paul71H 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MatchGameProductions It seems like the frequency of "gold star" episodes has decreased since around episode 600 or so. Is a pattern developing here, where the later years of MG have fewer episodes worthy of the "gold star" designation? (I wouldn't be surprised if that's true, but I would think that MG76 is still part of the "golden age" of Match Game.) Or maybe it's just a random dry spell, or just my imagination.

    • @MatchGameProductions
