    *Little known fact;* During the Lords of Power stage of MOTU development, Mer-Man was shifted to the Heroic side, and Stratos was moved to the Evil warriors. Mark Taylor himself originally intended Mer-Man as evil and Stratos as good, however.

      Thanks for the info! I remember hearing a little back story about Stratos shifting to the Evil warriors. But im more familiar with the vintage Figure and comic story or some of the LOP concept and story going back to those vintage comic books. Thanks for watching 👍

      Yeah, I sat down and did a ton of research into the early developement of MOTU. I got most of my info from Battleramblog and various interviews with Mark Taylor and his wife. It's quite complex how the characters evolved and changed over time, along with swapping sides a few times, before the toys were released. The side swapping came from Mattel wanting 4 good guys and 4 evil guys for the original toy release, as well as the input from Don Glut, who was tasked with creating the first storylines for the franchise, and writing the early minicomics. Mer-Man was moved back to the evil side, when the Sorceress (The Goddess) was switched from the evil side to the good (Which is why she is shown as heroic in the first minicomic). It got more complex when Teela and the Sorceress were combined into one toy, so Mattel needed another character (Zodac) to plug the 8th character spot. Zodac ended up on the evil side for the toys, when Stratos was switched with him, back to the good team. This happened after the first minicomic was created, thus Stratos is shown as evil in that one. Very complex, but I have it all worked out now. @@Themanchlid

      @@The_Cosmic_Yog-Sothoth Yes when you really go into the lore or Back story of the developement and early concept ideas of the Masters of the Universe line. It really gets deep and mixed all around better Lord of power idea which was gonna be the Main title before the Masters of the Universe title. But the story later changed to the prince Adam He-man which was more torward the filmation to help sell the vintage figures which also had new designs over the LOP figures which finnaly got released in a five pack in the Origins. Also the 200x and Classics line made new Stories and even bios for older and new figures or Characters in the line. I try not to get to deep into the lore of History of the Origins MOTU figures in reviews. A little here and there or go into it a bit with a certain figure during the review that's within my knowlage or research. But it gets deep sometimes and that's not the main point of the figure reviews. I try to stick more to that vintage Nastalgia that most of us grew up with or remember with certain figures we are once again collecting in the Origins. But then Newer Figures or a figure I have for comparison like the LOP Mer-Man needs a little explaining about him and how he fits in for people who don't know about the figure or why that design over the vintage one.

    • @The_Cosmic_Yog-Sothoth
      @The_Cosmic_Yog-Sothoth 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, most people with nostalgia for the franchise have no idea about the background and developement stages. Most people were probably confused about the "Lords of Power" figures within Origins. I still find it confusing how the Lords of Power versions of Skeletor, Beast Man and Mer-Man etc. fit into the main Origins canon itself. Are they different characters? Do they exist in the same canon as evolutions or precursors to the nostalgic versions of the characters? Hard to say. The minicomics certainly show the LOP Mer-Man as existing in the same canon as the other characters, but he appears after the classic Mer-Man. And the backing card art (which seem to follow its own canon) shows LOP Beast Man and Mer-Man chilling out with Keldor and Kronis from 200X, haha. *Someone needs to write a lore Bible for Origins to iron it out.* @@Themanchlid

      @@The_Cosmic_Yog-Sothoth If you ever watched Spector creative channel or Scott toy guru as they call him. He worked on the Classics brand for tens years and know all about the back stories or where they came from and why they changed. He has a ton of videos that talks and exsplains all about this stuff and comentary videos on every Classics figures and their back story or bios. There is so much out there about MOTU. The LOP characters and designs in simple concept was a combination of Mark Talors, Roger Sweet and a couple other Mattel designers creations that had thier own story going back to the Godess with the cross Armor that turned Jungle or Savage He-man in the power He-man and the power sword was a tool to get into Catsule greyskull but didn't Transform Prince Adam into He-man because therecwas no Prince Adam or Sorceress. However I think there was A Teela and later in the story she was turned into the Sorceress from the godess later. Skeletor came from another dimention and got a hold of the power sword to get into Catsule greyskull. Beastman and Mer-Man where Mutants and henchman Skeletor met up with along the way. And the story goes on and on. I also heard other concepts different from that as well. Yeah it's a mix a mash of ideas between the LOP, Vintage figures and animation going back to the 80s. That's what I know or have read about this stuff!

    I think the 'Fan Favourites' are just identical reissues by another name, a second chance for someone to get the figure that missed out. I am sure though some of the hardcore collectors will insist on getting every single reissue though just for that corner triangle that's different on the cardback.

    • @Themanchlid
      @Themanchlid  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep! From what I see with Mer-Man and the Trap-jaw in card. They are just the same figures again Reissued with the fan favorite logo in the cornor. Some colors might have slightly variations because of the factory. It's cool fans can get a second chance to get certain figures again that they missed out on! • @Themanchlid
      @Themanchlid  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No problem! I had you in mind reviewing this Figure. I wasn't even gonna bother originaly doing a review on him because I didn't see that much of a difference between the first one I had and compared and this figure in card aside the Fan Favorite Mark or art piece on the right hand cornor of the card. Everything looks and feels exactly the same! Even the buck says 2020 as I showed. So its the tool they still have and used again. The colors are the same aside maybe a glossy or slightly tint in the tone under my lights. But thats just the factory and how the mold injection machine heated and put out the plastic mix in the tool. It will always vary a bit with every figure.
      So im guessing all the Fan favorite figures will just be re-releases again of the Original ones. I guess that's good for new collectiors and the older ones to get thier hands on some of these Fan Favorite figures as their calling them in hands again for Retail costs!👍

    Nice review of Mer-Man! I do like that Mattel is re-issuing these “fan-favorites,” especially as it may be the only way for me to get my hands on King Randor and the mini-comic Trap Jaw from Wave 10 eventually.
    So, I guess what I’m sort of confused about is the wave distribution on the new Origins stuff. It would seem as if the 4 figures per wave pattern is not the case anymore? Or Cartoon He-Man and Beast Man are shipping simultaneously with the Fan-Favorite Mer-Man and another Fan Favorite?
    It may seem somewhat silly, but these are the kinds of obsessive-compulsive list-making details people like me lose sleep over! 😂
    Not much else I can really comment on as this is an older figure. Completists will probably need to pick it up if they want every variation of the mini-comic as well (different cross-sell on the back page).

I didn't notice anything different from the first release figure from what I could see in the package. I was just gonna leave him on the card. But I got a request from two people who watch my reviews. If I can, please review and compare the two figures. So I did and also tried my typical parts, swapping with what I had available. He is just a Reissue like all the other figures coming out that have been announced for Reissues again like the Trap-jaw and Randor. I'm not sure about the bizarre distribution choices either. I think Mattel is trying to push out too many things, too fast, such as The Origins vintage figures, Reissues, Filmation, and The Turtles of Grayskull coming. Not to mention the Masterverse line. They have so much stuff on the table. I think more collectors are becoming interested in the line, but the coudent get a chance to get so many iconic figures in the beginning like Mer-Man and Randor that had very poor distribution and limited supply. So now certain figures coming out are given fans that second chance!

      Yeah The vintage and Origins are definitely fan favorite figure as this Reissue is being called! I remember getting that vintage Mer-Man as a kid. I think he was my third or forth figure then. I thought he was so cool in the day! It fun to see Origins putting this stuff back out again! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 👌

    The Spydor that we'll probably *NEVER* get. Origins and Masterverse are really weak when it comes to the vehicles. Can't get a full Battle Ram in Origins. And can't even get 1 vehicle in Masterverse.
