I've always had a major beef with montoring at gigs. This led me to trying IEM's a a long, long time ago. I eventually just built my own rig around a digital mixer with enough Shure and Sennheiser IEM units to cover a whole band. Maintaining this control over what I hear has helped my performance and I truly believe saved my ears. I've wanted to try some of the budget units like these Xvive and possibly use them as backups. I'm glad they worked out for you. I now run silent stage quite a bit.
Sound guy in this case wasn't getting the job done. IEM use should make his job much easier once the monitor mixes are dialed. He didn't have to deal with the possiblity of a bunch of wedges feeding back or bleeding into the main mix. All he has to do is get a reasonable drum sound and then fill in with everyone else.

Una mala noche, mejor olvidarla y que no vuelva a suceder. Eres un gran guitarrista. Saludos desde España.

I’m taking this in as a bit of a cautionary tale… I was planning on/considering going ampless on the next gig… your experience here has given me serious pause.
I’d imagine sound guy got read the riot act about volume at some point, either on this gig or another. Those corporate/function sound gigs can be tough

Yep, I think he mentioned at one point they had a decibel meter in that place. I think he was just being a little to cautious.

What's hilarious is that everyone just left! That company really knows how to throw a party (not). Hopefully you at least got paid.

Good ole corporate gigs. Most of the people are there because they have to be. They don’t really like the other people there and the moment they can leave they do.
The people planning the party have little to no experience so they do things like leaving the lights up full blast and then think everyone is leaving because the band is too loud.
Y’all sound great … too bad it was for a corporate gig.
Also, I bet that poor sound guy was read the riot act to keep the volume down. Nobody goes into live sound to do impossibly quiet gigs.
    Hopefully you were paid appropriately.

I was direct as well. Cab sim out the back of the head. Also was set at a lower wattage, so it was cooking. Sound guy just didn't do his job.

I played in a cover band for many years and we all worked for the same company. Our company would hire a band every year to play the annual company picnic and they would do pretty much the same thing. Our band actually played the last picnic but after the event I told H.R. why were they wasting money on a band. I just think they wanted a band for show and not really to play. It was insulting to the bands to play just to be throttled and cut in on. They never had a band after that!

And now some nameless band guitarist has to go pick up a shift at Wal-Mart around the holidays to help pay for his kids' Christmas... jk maybe.

I would guess that the sound engineer with the ipad isn't a musician.

So frustrating would have been even better with guitar…. sound guy under strict rules concerning guitar sound l guess never mind always next time!🙂

He's way too close to judge the sound, and also seems to be spending too much time near either side instead of down the middle..The mistakes which appear to be being made, suggest not a lot of experience. IMO But sometimes its just a bas night..

no matter how much money you make on these kind of gigs , there no fun and will destroy the passion for playing live .

Yeah it really seems like they have a meeting about the Christmas party and someone says let's have a band and then the band gets there and they realize what they really wanted was a boom box in the corner to cover up the awkward silence in conversations. I do not do corporate gigs anymore. My wife does have a great dj business though lol
