I have just bought an 02 Mini Cooper. The widows didn’t go down when the doors open, central locking didn’t work properly, Speedo lights not working and indicator light didn’t flash. I thought I was in for a huge bill. There was a small amount of corrosion on one of the CD changer clips. I give it a quick clean with some contact cleaner and everything works perfectly. Thanks so much for this very helpful video, I had loads of electrical gremlins on my 2001 mini R50. An auto electrician said i needed a new instrument cluster, quoted around £500 to fix it, I’ve just cleaned the cd changer plug, and now everything works perfectly! Thanks again mate!
Hey spot on there pal I owe you a drink, I’ve had this problem also my heater controls died and indicator tell tale and central locking, checked the cd changer wiring, (changer not there but wiring was sat there wet through covered in verdigris, cleaned it up and sorted it out now everything is back working, I was going to remove the body controller and send it to be checked, nice to find a video like this that hits the nail on the head, top marks dude 👍
SLR Vids look in your boot, under my carpet there was a wiring harness for a cd changer that has been removed and it had got wet and started to corrode, once I cleaned it up the faults went.
@@Timemachine74 When you under the carpet you mean the compartment where the emergency kit is stored? I can't seem to find any wiring harness under there? 🤔 Maybe urs is a diffrent model? Mine is a 2002 R50
SLR Vids mines a 2004 r50 same car, the wiring is for a cd 6 disc changer, the cd unit was removed before I got the car, I lifted the boot carpet (under mine there’s a foam tool tray and wheel key) and in the right hand side laying on the floor was this cable for the cd, I cleaned it up and back fed it into the side panel and zip tied it to the loom to keep it safe. The water leak into the boot was the high level light (now sealed).
My bulb was loose, and it seems like it may have shorted out the dash lights. I checked the fuse box and it's all ok. Any recommendations on how to fix the dash lights?
Mate we have an issue with a cooper s 05 where lights remain ON after shut down which drains the battery, also have airbag passenger light on, tried a resistor stays the same, any clues think maybe battery could be rubbish?
My cigarette lighter was causing some of my dash lights to not work. And I’m having a issue with my heated seat. Drivers comes on and off if I move around. Gotta be a wire. Just got it and don’t know much about mini. If you know where or what I should look at 1st will save me a ton of time thanks!
I dont see my driven kilometers - my normal lights work. My bulp is dark. Should i give it a try or is the bulp only for the orange lightning and not for the stats like driven kilometers/ weather?! Thanks
Hi mate just wondering if you could help me, we’ve got an r53 cooper s ( 2003 ) is there any way to get the digital fuel range on the Rev counter as there is no button on the counter itself to change it. Many thanks 👍🏽
I got this problem plus sat Nav stuck on spash screen, not interior fan or display, no clicking for hazards or blinkers (but they work) and no dash illumination. Oh and stereo stuck on disabled. If anyone can help us be grateful. Checked things mentioned in video and that's not the issue.
I have a complicated question when the engine isn't on but the ignition is on my dash works and sound but when I start it the led switch doesn't work or the sound but from the outside my indicators work anyone know what's going on?
2005 mini, i took apart lighter and don't see any light. Just a amber ring around the lighter socket. lighter works fine. dash for speedo and tac don't light up. Hard to drive at night. Any other info, dash lights don't work Thanks for the video.

Superb vid. Just a bit of moisture on disconnected cd changer terminal in my case. Saved me god knows how much time and trouble investigating!! 👍

Can you swap an r50 dash cluster over to another cluster and milage reads from original cluster,milage held in bcm or ecu?
