The command is "Aus" which is German for "out". There is a VERY good reason they train these kinds of dogs in German. They do the same with German Shepherds. No pun intended. it is for safety more than anything. Safety of the Police Officer and also safety for random members of the public. The dog is trained to a VERY elite level in thos kinds of jobs, and will usually respond on cue to commands. The officer can't run the risk of the dog responding to something someone says by accident or even on purpose. An example would be if the dog was clinging to a suspect, and they shouted "off" in desperation or something. The dog's training could then kick in and respond to the false command. The same principle would apply if the dog heard a random passerby shout something in English and just respond in a way not intended. Chances cannot be taken with these kinda dogs.
