I'm so happy you made this video, Gav! As soon as I heard about this I started going down the rabbit hole. You've done all the heavy lifting, sir. Thanks for your research! This is going to be a "must have" to the collection, for sure!
Hi, MIP are doing a standalone 4WD kit confirmed on Dirk Anderson's interview so that's in the bank. Hopefully AE will confirm or deny this release soon but I don't expect it will happen until the Team Car is on all the shelves. I think this would be massive for them in 2025 as so many RC10 fans would want this. When the market is getting swamped with vintage competition, releasing your most desirable products is the best way to pick up the most cash and dominate market share.
I just got the jay Halsey edition and it's a great kit. Looking forward to building it! Good on Associated for releasing all of these. Giving the people what they want 😀
Another one from TA , ive built and run the rc10t on my show, what a wicked car , and just recieved the jay halsey edition , and gonna build that and run it on the show over xmas, but i think the 4wd version will be my last one !! If they slowed down the releases it would give everyone a chance to keep up!! My cofferes wont let me im afraid
I’ve got my CE on pre-order a DS & 40th still to build I’m good for a while my regular RC racing budget is suffering spending it on these mostly display cars I’ve been in need of a newer Touring Car for a while now and I’m still running what’s basically a B6.1 in 2WD buggy with the B7 being out it’s way past time to start thinking about upgrading that too
That's a good question. If you are AE, do you go vintage JH 4WD prototype replica or go modern belt with lipo side mount? If it was my call, I would go vintage and do a replica of how it was on JH 1985 2nd place car. It's a bigger market for vintage collectors than vintage racers so more possible unit sales. I would guess MIP will go modern belt. Time will tell :)
I had one of the chain drive conversions back in the day and it was OK. Not great and certainly not reliable enough to race but it was crazy fun while it stayed together.
That's what makes me thing AE might go belt drive 4WD. I love the idea of a replica JH 4WD IFMAR race replica but I'm not sure how well it will hold up to modern power.
Back in the early 90's, guys would add the 4wd on the rc10 and convert their cars into fast Sprint Cars. Maybe I might get a 4wd kit and install it on a second Rc10
I hope its the legend kit, Ill take several of those. The team car is coming with bearings, team shocks and looks like a Yokomo / Reedy brushed motor so that's a good sign.
AE could go two ways. A JH 4WD RC10 1st IFMAR race chain replica (best looking and so cool) or a flat belt design with a shorty lipo battery. Hard choice as one is more practical for vintage racing and the replica is best for vintage collectors. If I had to guess, I would say replica would be the best release strategy for collectors and leave MIP to do it's race 4WD option. Time will tell :)
Well...take some more of my money, AE! I remember guys running the MIP conversion kits back in the late 80's. They were pretty neat but not really competitive against the Kyoshos and Schumachers of the time. Damn I'm (getting) old.
Is there a reason to be excited about this other than nostalgia? I've been into RC for 30 plus years but took a decade or so off until a 5 or 6 years ago. There's a reason i don't run any of my old stuff or buy duplicates of ones i used to have back in the day. They kinda suck compared to anything offered now. I'm old but i was only 7 in 1985 so this was before my day.
I did think that but after putting my product development hat on, personally it just doesn't make business sense for AE to partner with MIP vs just doing it themselves. It would make the kit even more expensive and lower the profit margin for AE / Thunder Tiger. Sure, it would add a bit of nostalgia to the kit but not enough to lose so much margin.
@@RCKickschannelnow that I look at it the original prototype was developed by Team Associated so them doing it would make more sense. MIP kits were the most popular 4x4 conversion at least in the US. You are probably right
At the very least, they're starting to release the better versions (really draggin a$$ on that one) like the gold edition about to hit. And what's with the green one?
Green chassis (Broccoli) RC10 is available now, Team car RC10 gold chassis just went up on sale on AE's Website and the graphite is still to be officially announced I think but it's not far off.
Well they've killed it with me. When they showed the photos of the championship edition and they put those cheap looking one piece wheels on it! I'm not paying a premium price for an American car that now looks like it came from China as a knock off!
Comes with team shocks, bearings and a motor , the one piece wheels are lighter. Combined with a stealth tranny these were the pinnacle of rc10 progression IMHO
You are complaining because it comes with one piece wheels, the exact same wheels that the original Team car came with? Moulded at the "cheap Chinese" factory that's made Associateds plastic parts from the B3 onwards?
Let's see if they accidentally put it on their website for a bit.. that seems to be part of their marketing plan.. at the rate they have been going.. they will release the chain drive.. cable drive.. and belt drive.. four months apart from each other.. and then one in yellow.. because it was Curtis' mom' favorite color 😎
Great scoop, except it's nothing to do with Associated. They didn't make the first one and have no involvement in this. It will be an MIP product, in much the same way you can already get a repro 4wd RC10 conversion from Factory Works. Also Eustace Moore hasn't said it will be happening, all he had said, in one interview, is that with all the RC10 re-releases around MIP are looking into it, that it won't be the same as the original and it will likely only be for the stealth gearbox/long arm cars as aren't doing the rear gearbox, so it will only fit the soon to be released team car. That doesn't guarantee that it's on its way, after all MIP were also looking into it in 2014 with the first vintage repros from Associated.
I'm talking about AE doing it's own 4WD RC10 kit. MIP will be doing it's own 4WD kit but like you say, in what configuration. Go more modern and do a flat belt config with a shorty lipo setup probably, but not confirmed. I guess time will tell :)
@@RCKickschannelso you are suggesting that Associated are building a new car that has no relevance to the originals in any way? Or are you basing this on a Facebook rumour based on the Eustace Moore interview is just mentioned above, where he doesn't mention a collaboration with Associated? You can find mention of the 4wd kit 30 minutes into the interview. Eustace's actual words are "now that Associated has positioned themselves to be able to supply people with the goodies, with the parts that they need to actually build it up from 'standard' type parts, we're going to have available MIP parts to actually, and the kit, to be able to build it. It won't be with the transmission, it will most likely use the stealth transmission and wider arms at the front, and then from the chassis to the shocks and the other components, steering components and all that people can choose what is standard. We are going to have something at least to present at the event (the JConcepts Clash of Champions) No mention of an actual car or any collaboration with Associated there.

MIP is repopping the original MIP 4-10 chain/belt drive kit.. weather it will be offered as a kit with a chassis direct from AE, I can't see that happening, I would bet on mid/late 2025 release.. it was first posted over on the OSRC group on Facebook, as that groups creator Dirk is the reason it's coming out. What's wrong with the B7? Super chuffed with mine. Sure, sure the rear pin issue and the early diff housing being wonkey was a problem but its a super easy fix to fit the longer pins and if you want to push the boat out, fit the carbon comp diff housing option. Chuck in some PEEK Idler Gears from Willspeed as well and go at it with as much power as you want.

It’s getting a bit of a joke now. 5 versions of the same car ? Ruining the vintage market. The market is saturated. The nostalgia is being lost the more versions being released
The vintage market is totally separate to the "new buggies that look like old ones that you can buy in any shop" market. And based on recent prices that proper vintage market is still buoyant
The vintage market it trash. I said it. Don't worry. The virtual dirt mall d-bags still hold all the parts that AE, dollar store copies and re-re won't. The big thing is "WION" OR lightly driven shelf candy. Try finding CVDs that fit.
Is it, how do you know? Just because MIP is releasing a 4WD kit, what has that got to do with AE releases? Would it not make sense for AE to release its own 4WD kit? AE had a vintage prototype that JH ran at the 1st IFMAR coming 2nd. Wouldn't that make a great release? From a business point of view, would it not be a smart move for AE to drop its own 4WD kit and clean up a bucket load of cash vs do nothing and let MIP sell a bucket load of kits?
Well they've killed it with me. When they showed the photos of the championship edition and they put those cheap looking one piece wheels on it! I'm not paying a premium price for an American car that now looks like it came from China as a knock off!
Thunder Tiger has truly figured out no better way to separate a bunch of middle-aged men from their money.
Yep, it makes complete business sense to drop such a desirable kit release in 2025 as it's going to be a tough year in RC.
all it took was FANRC to start kick it, otherwise we would still be getting limited kits drip feed to us.
Ok yes
