I'm now officially a refugee from the Zino Nation.
Since a catastrophic battery failure at 300ft resulting in the utter destruction of the Zino I've become an asylum seeker in DJI land. Good thing they don't throw you in a camp for that sort of thing
Luckily I was able to find a like-new DJI Spark on Facebook local marketplace for a ridiculously low resale price (Dad got the Spark as a gift for Christmas and never really caught the drone bug. Mom said get rid of it and use the money for summer vacation) and am now learning the joys of the DJI Go4 app. I have only been flying the Spark for less than a week now and I'm thoroughly impressed by the stability and control in low-slow-close flying. Zipping around in Sport Mode is awe inspiring. Finally the image quality is phenomenal. Some stats snobs may complain about the low bit rate and 1080p/30fps limitations but for hobbyists and most basic commercial applications the Spark work product is more than adequate.
As far a range challenges, others can knock themselves out if they want. I realize that Spark has a limited range as compares to Mavic and certainly Phantom. My personal preference is to use drones under controlled and closely observed conditions. Frankly the Spark is too small to maintain Line-Of-Sight beyond 150 meters anyway. Don't get me wrong, it's encouraging that Ron and Marcus have demonstrated DJI Spark has GREAT range. It's just that I'm trying to train myself to stay close, stay connected and take phenomenal images...all of which I can accomplish with the Spark

Wise words, especially with the experience you had with the Zino. I continue to be impressed by the Spark. It's an amazing drone with a value price.

@@IdahoQuadcopter I bought Hubsan H501S and Zino to get a working skills and knowledge of drones at a discount. DJI Spark is a super-bargain on the used market on-line right now. It was time for me to advance to a drone that I could use once I get my Part 107 cert. I ordered prop guards in anticipation of waivers for flights over people in the future. Spark will have the advantage when those become available, I'm sure.

I had my Spark out to a max of 1.65 miles. Was with an OTG cable, range extenders and at 399’ in altitude. Now I own a Mavic 2 Pro. Range is not an issue. LOL. I just started watching your videos and I find them pleasant. I will continue to watch. Oh, and my Spark used to do very precise landings. Even during windy days. Launch it and go up to 30’ and then fly. She takes a pic for the precision landing feature. So disappointing to see the Fimi. I almost bought it...until I saw your vids. Very happy with my Mavic 2 Pro. ✌🏻

Good Test. Love your content! For a selfie drone, 3500 feet is still a haul for the price. I think DJI perfectly bridges the gap between toy drones and Photography drones with the spark. It almost like having a little bit of both. Thanks for sharing!

The FIMI X8 is quite a bit more money. I would still like to own one just for something different. Unfortunately, I have the Spark, the Mavic Air, and the Parrot Anafi. Divorce would be in my future if I bought the X8. 😀

I had my spark out at 5300 feet over the weekend. It returned home bc of low battery but that was after flying 11k feet before seeing how far out I could go. This is according to my flight data which I'm assuming is pretty spot on

First flight with no OTG cable, you were at an altitude of 123’. Second flight with the OTG cable, you were at 149’. Height has a lot to do with signal strength. There are trees between you and the drone when it gets out to distance.
Not trying to pick, but you should be at the same height when doing range tests like that.
    Thanks for the video!

the OTG cable and parabolic extenders are a MUST buy for the Spark!
i regularly fly distances upwards of 10,000ft with my Spark!
provided you go ahead and purchase a $4-$8 parabolic range extender and OTG cable, the Spark is capable of just under 2-miles from my experiences.
if you take a brief moment to check wind speeds and direction, use that info to fly with a tail wind to conserve battery power and transmission integrity.
    food for thought. ;)

I've taken my Spark out as far as 2,700m (8,800ft) before turning round so as to have about 30% battery left upon reaching home. I never lost signal once during this flight and had I have flown in a straight line rather than firstly to the South East before turning slightly to the South West, I may have had enough juice to go even further. This flight occurred entirely over deserted coastal dunes away from built up areas and into a fairly robust wind comming off the ocean. It's essential to factor in a tailwind for the leg home on these long distance flights (always fly out into the wind so that it's not a factor on your way back). I used the OTG cable on the CE band and my flight altitude was around 400ft. It'd still like to have a crack at achieving a 3km distance, however this requires planning, location and the right conditions.
If well calibrated and allowed to climb straight up for a good 10m or so before pushing forward, the Spark has an amazingly precise accuracy for landing almost exactly on the very spot it took off.
I've been able to adjust the gimbal up and down when in RTH mode.

please, whenever you do range test, don't start off with your battery in the 80s. You need a true range and battery is an important variable. Got my M2P to 29000 ft one way and it made it back with 3% battery.
