I have no basis for what I'm about to say so just take it with a grain of salt but I have a feeling that Sting ball might be like a combination of American football and lacrosse. If you look at the way Scorp throws the poisonous crystals he uses for his attacks, his claws hold them similar to how a lacrosse stick catches and holds a lacrosse ball. I'd assume players toss the ball to each other using their hands which is where the comparison to American football comes from.
I have no reference for any of this, I'm just spit balling some theories here.

I just remembered, that I have another desert related Skylander
Oceaphant
somewhere in the vast golden desert, long before the Golden Queen ruled over it
there was a small oasis kingdom, where the central lake was the most important part of the kingdom, as it provided life
and it was protected by the royal Ocean Elephant family
but things changed when 1 night, the lake was dried out, and the royal prince went out to search for the legendary water
on his journey, he met with several Skylanders who helped him on his journey
however, the water was truelly gone, not even a drip was ever found, so they returned to his kingdom
only to find the worst thing, not only is his family dead, but the Golden Queen took over the kingdom, as she reveals that she was the one who took the water
and even though he wanted revenge, he knew he wasn't ready, so he joined the Skylanders, in order to get his revenge one day
Another interesting skylander for egyptian mythology is actually Scratch, as in previous games she was referred to as a sphinx
Scorp's island was probably walled off by surrounding mountains
This is really hitting me considering I no longer have my Skylanders anymore out of force.

3:20 Potential theory. What if we're thinking about it backwards? Instead of things coming from Earth to Skylands, what if Skylands is where our Earth things originated? Skylands is over 10,000 years old, and when the Giants came to Earth, civilization was just beginning I'm pretty sure.
Plus, Skylands is canonically at the center of the universe. And with portals on our planet seemingly without being sent to us through a magical catastrophe (Mt. Cloudbreak, broken core, broken Cloudcracker etc.) and we know that Portal Masters left Skylands during the reign of King Nefarion and his Mask of Power, there is a possibility.

I do have one based on a story set in Egypt (let's see who can guess the correct story it is based on)
Vine Steps
her kind was created by Dr. krankcase, to be workers for Golden Queen
as these sentient plants are mutated desert plants, but Golden Queen being herself, treated them horrible
her kind had to work day after day after day, and only rested when the sun was down, and even then in crammed little spaces
that was until 1 night, where one of the plants started to dance, to bring some joy into their horrible lives
but it was through her dancing, that she changed the chains they were attached to, into a weapon for escape
now going by the name of Vine Steps, she danced through the desert night, leading her fellow sentient plants to a new happy life
during their escape, several Skylanders came across them and after learning what happened, Vine Steps was offered the role of Skylander
a special kind in fact, a Weapon Master (a kind I came up with, with the gimmick that they change items, vehicles, level figures, traps, ect. Into weapons)
Nice backstory, I have a skylander based on one of the egyptian gods for my take if there was light element gaint.

His name is Ramoth. His name is based on the egyptian god Ra who is the the sun in egyptian mythology and he's also a gaint moth. I'm still working on his backstory and reworking his moveset.
