    I'm also a former DE1 owner and now the YOU and I disagree about getting better tasting coffee from the Decent. Using the same bean, same grinder and similar profiles, I'm enjoying the shots on the YOU more. I know this is subjective but I'm finding greater clarity with the YOU. I do agree about the fun element returning to coffee making. Even backflushing, steaming and filling the water tank is more fun on the YOU

    I love my YOU. Specifically the paddle operations and ability to save the manual profiles. And Sanremo listens to their customers. Fixing of bugs on the new firmware releases happen within days! I think there is much more to be expected on programmability and functionality of the firmware. Stay tuned!
    On the fan: get the new fan upgrade kit from Sanremo. The fan is barely audible after that (new fan, lower rpm, a new fitting using silicone plugs).

    Temperature profiling is something I'm curious about. If you're able to experiment with the Decent and see if you get interesting results by manipulation of temp over time that would be fun to hear about

    Hey mate, looking at Kafatek to go with my You. Currently have a Niche Zero. Mainly drink flat whites, what do you recommend of the grinders you've tested, including non-Kafatek and if you've had experience (knowing you drink mostly non-milk coffees). Cheers

    So I am super interested in this system. It feels like it took middle of the road of three different approaches. 1) analog feel of the flow profiling of a lelit biancha 2) the cool tech of a decent 3) the commercial grade reliability of the La Marzocco.
    Question, regarding the 6 standard profiles and 12 custom profiles. Is that enough? Did you find it limiting? Especially on the price of the machine?
    It feels like you must rotate them out when you run out of room for storing different "profiles". I am wondering if you just keep it abstract to styles for extraction or if you just dial in and keep a few around and the amount of profiles you can cache are "good enough". Just was thinking as a "commercial" machine if they are taking on a commerical decent style machine why not have more profiles to cache, customizing just 12 profiles seems limiting to me.
    In the end it seems like an amazing offering and if it is as reliable and rock solid as they say it is I am sold.

    • @CremaChris1
      @CremaChris1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Currently you have 12 custom profiles, but can save another 12 paddle profiles, which you can record from using the paddle. SR's philosophy so far is they want the full spectrum of functionality to be usable from the UI on the machine without having to use the app. Given that 24 profiles are enough to handle. And each of the profiles can be configured regarding the total flow, so you gain a lot more flexibility for each profile through making it longer or shorter (please note that making it longer does not work on the paddle profiles, as these are based on realtime data that is not available for prolonging the extraction).
      You can also save all profiles to USB and upload others. I guess this is already a lot to play with.
      But as it is all about SW dev SR could add additional phases to the custom profile programmming, increase the number of profiles, as well as add more functionality in the app.

    Using mine, I don't actually think it does pressure profiling but pump profiling. I have no idea what's happening at the puck. No puck and it says 9 bar...?

    Which is better this or decent ?

  • @BensCoffeeRants
    @BensCoffeeRants ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why would you say it's less repeatable than the Decent earlier in the video, or wouldn't pull shots as good? Seems like it should be able to follow the profiles and give you repeatable results assuming grind size, puck prep or coffee didn't change.
    Some people claim the Decent isn't really as good as E61 or other machines, some people say E61 isn't as good as Decent taste wise... A lot of Decent owners seem to go to Lever machines. So who knows.
    Longer heat up time is pretty much for every E61 machine, my machine is usually ready before I am, I don't 'need' coffee the very first thing in the morning though.
    That's pretty cool they let you choose which direction your flow control / profiling lever goes, being able to set the max pressure is an awesome feature I think. I guess it mostly applies when you accidentally grind way too fine :D

    • @CremaChris1
      @CremaChris1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On the heat up times I have a slightly different view. The YOU brewboiler heats up within 5 minutes to target temp (eg. 93 degree C). The portafilter is not hot at that stage, but can be easily made hot by a group head flush. It takes a couple of seconds to recover, but this is very quick. I frequently take shots at 6 minutes in after booting it up for the first time on a day and they are great. Same for the steam boiler. Heated up after 8-9 minutes from cold start. Very consistent and stable after that. Recovers within seconds. I have it set to 1.7 bar, and when steaming it never drops under 1.3 bar, and starts to recover from that to full steam during steaming. That is on 220V though. May be different on 110V, not able to test it as I am Europe based.
      Even better if you reheat it after it has been switched off for a while. After 4 hours brew boiler is at around 60 degrees, coming back to 93 takes 2-3 minutes. So it totally makes sense to switch it off in between.
      On the profiling consistency : the YOU tries to adhere to the programmed or paddle captured profiles as good as possible. If eg. puck prep is different, it automatically tries to adjust the rpm of the pump to stay on the programmed pressure profile using the integrated pressure sensor - this is of course not perfect, as the reaction speed of the pump is not infinite and all the other variables like temp, humidity, grind size etc. play a role. But it is pretty consistent if you are able to fix all the other variables. Also the volumetric dosing is very consistent. I did a measurement of water debits at different pressure levels, and they were very consistent and repeatable.

    I buy what you mean about enjoying the process over precise perfect espresso. This is the reason I don’t like Decent (by the way, the vibration pump inside Decent sounds cheap).
    I have a LM Strada EP. Although I can set pouring profile, I never use it. Every time I use the machine, I just enjoy the play with the paddle and hear the different sound from the gear.
    I think my next machine for home would be this Sanremo You. My LM Strada EP would move to my workplace in the future.
    The only thing I don’t see YOU as a commercial machine is it’s E61 group. For some reasons, I don’t have full confident to use E62 in commercial setting.

    I was super hyped for this machine before I heard it is just an modified E61. Also in the manual it states that you have to flush after not using it for 20 minutes. This machine is way to expensive for this. Same with the Cube. I was expecting a saturated group wich does not have the problem with overheating. I am really sad because I was excited about everything else in and on this machine…. maybe next time….

    • @CremaChris1
      @CremaChris1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can not confirm it overheats and needs flushes. Works great for me. Both group head and brew boiler are heated and controlled separately. And I have seen measurements on temperature stability which have been very good - need to dig out the blog that tested it against many other machines. And it being an SR61 group head also means you have a wide choice of affordable accessories.

      @gehtnurdurch 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CremaChris1 If that is the case it’s worth another look. But I don’t know why it’s in the manual then. It wouldn’t be the first machine with a copy and paste manual though

    … E61? not really.

    • @gk5450
      @gk5450 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct, it is an SR61 - very different from E61 in how it heats and maintains stability. There is built in heater in the group which is also PID controlled and pre-heats the group to user settable temperature, so I highly doubt it needs even 10 mins to stabilize. Also, the protective shield behind the group is not to prevent burning but to cover an electrical valve. That steel tube that protrudes below the shield is barely warm.
