One small correction: Gitanjali wasn’t talking to her Nana. She was calling him “Nanna” which means Dad in Telugu. Great video overall!
There came a movie in hollywood called Psycho in 1960. The title itself said what the lead character will be. Then came The godfather, Scarface, Goodfellas, Cape fear, Pulp Fiction, American Gangster to right until Breaking Bad and even The Wolf of Wall Street, and now killers of the flower moon. Hollywood does not shy away from telling stories about bad guys as leads, all these movies are extremely well acclaimed and appreciated. We keep crying that we don't make movies like Hollywood, but when a handful of Indian directors like Vanga, Kashyap, RGV started making those movies and pushing the boundary in Indian cinema, people start bringing up the issue of misogyny, violence and what not. Bollywood has already gone for years making the same old good guy defeats bad guy cliche movies.Its about time we start appreciating newer approach to storytelling or else this genre will not develop and all we will have is Hollywood movies to watch

In my opinion, no person is white or black, everyone has shades of grey. Vanga presented the reality on screen. In hindi it's called "Yatharthvaad". Movie is not depicting Ranvijay with the perfection and idealistic qualities of Lord Ram but he is depicting mannerisms of a common man. Also, he is showing the consequences with respect to his karma. All his wrongdoings had a negative impact, which justifies every criticism to this movie.

ITS A VILLIAN'S MOVIE.
Even when the runway fight happen with Bobby. You can see they just look like copy of each other. Both Similar beard, hair, shirtless, same pants. No distinguish between them. Coz both are the villans in each other's life. If u follow bobby's character, his storyline is the same of Ranbir's. THEY ARE THE SAME GUY from writing pov.

People just can't accept that the lead character of a movie can be a bad guy, ranvijay was the bad guy, as simple as that, now whatever action he did is justified, BECAUSE HE IS A BAD GUY.

Bhai, it all depends on our mentality. As you said most of the people like aesthetic and rich things/people. Its problem of the people that they are attrcted towards luxurious and beautiful bad things like rich kid, rather than main characters of gangs of wasseypur.

From childhood i have seen in Indian movies we use "Hero" and Villain" to describe the main characters. It's not wrong but with that we have made an image of these characters. A hero character will be played by a person looking like a certain way, purer than anything and also played by certain actors. Villain characters are also played by certain people, looking like a certain way. That has stuck in many people's minds and those actors only play those characters. People can't grasp it when those actors play opposite characters. We think every movie is from a hero's perspective and a good moral story. We gotta open our horizons and accept that we can appreciate a good story about a negative character without acting like him.

I loved Arjun Reddy and saw how Arjun changed to such lovely person after healing. But majority idolized the hyper Arjun. It wasn't written that way .

Eh, sorry, Kabir didn't lose Preeti because of that slap dude. He lost her because he took his magic potion and sleeping like dead 😂 Preeti went back to her even after the slap to stop her wedding, remember? Not only that, she didn't get reply from him, hence she thought he abandoned her, hence she agreed to marry, but even after that, voila, she didn't let her husband touch her, so that Kabir can conveniently get her back 😂😂 There was no consequence of that slap.Vanga makes his protagonist suffer, but only on a temporary basis, and not as a consequence of his behavioural choices with others. I think Shamim missed it big time. I didn't watch Animal, so cannot comment on how and which way Ranvijay suffered his consequences, but I bet it won't be much different that Kabir :)

Though there's some who don't like the edit/ cut. But I love it because it's a classic style. If SRV want he can show some cinematography in action sequences. But he kept it simple that's what I love most because nowadays using slow motion in movies ( specially South movies ) is now overrated and saturated.

I like your theory about the social or physical appearance of actors subconcisily affecting how the movie is interpreted by the audience i.e. rich or "good-looking" person cannot be bad, hence this movie should not exist. In one of Vanga's interviews, he mentioned that he intentionally chose an actor like Ranbir, perhaps to reflect on this idea.
Thank you so much for such a clear video breaking down the writing, one of the few movies in recent times which has made me look at the screen and say why is the character doing this but you want to know more and see his ultimate doomed fate!

Damn brother. This video is the need of the hour. I am not understanding why people are trying to project their moral values on a movie. It's just a movie. Watch it, enjoy it for what it is or ignore. All these idiotic people who have critiqued this film for it's problematic scenes might be the same guys who praised movies like Joker, A clockwork orange, most of Karan Johar's films (he glorifies cheating and extra marital relations, but many don't talk about it), a series like GOT (which has soooo many immoral and unethical sequences) etc., This is an awesome film. Yes it has problematic scenes. But, it has soo many other things too. We can't just concentrate on the bad aspects of the film. It has soo much good in it as well (as a film, not as a character study).
And aap jo kahe, 100% correct hain. This is like a Shakespearean story. The central character is a narcissistic sociopath who will do anything to protect his family. That is the reason he cheated his wife too. There came a point where he had choose between his wife and his dad, he chose the latter. It might or might not be the right choice, but that's the character's choice and we don't need to agree with him, but we should understand that's how his brain works.
Watched the movie I can't fathom why much some people are bashing it for no reason. I loved it SO MUCH. Brilliantly written and executed story about an unhinged main character. It doesn't justify ANYTHING from Ranvijay's character and all of his negative actions have some ramifications or consequences. Geetanjali's brilliant monologue calling him out for his toxic behaviours and her slapping Ranvijay multiple times made it absolutely perfect and showed that the script is not glorifying any of his actions. Her wife was most definitely leaving him. Only his kid came back to say a last goodbye. He neglected his own children just like his father neglected him. He became a monster, went against the world just to please his father who even at the end didn't love him. His wife will never look at him the same and will take the kids away from him to America. An entire family-gangster nexus is now coming to destroy him. He lost EVERYTHING.
