I hadn't heard of this cymbal before this video. I thought, no way it can live up to the hype you're building up. Then you started playing. It did. Such a good sound.
Paiste creates very consistent soundings instruments. The most impressive Paiste I've played was a vintage 21" paper thin Blue Label. The 19" version was as good. Love the woody sound of your kit...very organic... smooth and cool drumming. Regards
I keep on coming back to this video every year or so just to ear you play those drums and cymbals at the end. I know it's just a sample, but it's so inspired. It's always beautiful. Cheers man !
although the focus may be on the swish I fell in love with your hi-hat technique. The way you utilise it to add texture whilst also providing time really creates a whole new layer. I'll definitely work on that one myself
Absolutely superb. Several years ago, I went to see Bill Bruford at a drum clinic and immediately fell in love with his Paiste Signature Traditionals Swish (among other things!) Your cymbal, though somewhat heavier I believe, sound virtually identical in that when played softly, it sounds like gently falling rain. Soon after that show, I found myself a 20" Traditionals Swish also which I will never give up. Yet, perhaps due to the weight (mine has slightly wavy edges and Bill's looked like a crepe!) or the additional 2 inch diameter, I think that your cymbal may be more more "rideable". Just a wonderful instrument. Enjoy it and many thanks!
Great suggestion about ",Treat Yourself" I have been buying myself a pAisTe Cymbal for my Birthday/Christmas for over 20 years. Started with a 28 inch Symphonic Gong for my 40th Birthday. For this Xmas it's 602 Heavy Hats & 602 Medium 20. pAisTe-4-Life 🤘
Holy crap...don’t know how I got here but subscribed at once. Awesome groove! Could replay this all night. Cymbal sounds nice also but man, I love your groove on the set. Thanks for sharing.
I've played the Paiste Traditional Swish and it was nice, but somewhat subdued. I now own the Paiste Masters Swish: it has different hammering, latheing, and a bigger flange -- and, is more explosive . . . a different animal. Everything I was looking for in a swish cymbal and more! Love it!
Masters Swish players unite!!!I love mine...Just love it..I have seen Simon Phillips play his for years..Zildjian obviously but I'm Paiste through and through..Ok except my 18" Ufip Class Series Fast Crash but all others are a mix of 2002...Signatures..Masters...Formula 602..
Only paiste could make that. It's like the winds of change are being foreshadowed by a piece of bronze. It sounds like it's constantly opening up. Love it want one.
Hey Rob, I just purchased this cymbal from someone on the Reverb sight in mint condition. I can’t wait to play it when I get off work today. Colin Cave.
You are right about the musicality of that cymbal. To my ear (a guitarist/songwriter’s perspective) it sound like it has the sustaining sizzle of a riveted ride and the white noise of a china, albeit with longer sustain. It could act as a ride, a crash, a china, or a big splash in a mix. That is pretty much unmatched versatility in a single cymbal. Why doesn’t every drummer have one of these?
Nice. Rob. Real nice! Beyond the beautiful sound of your new cymbal - the thing that caught my eye/ear more, was your inclusion of the 'hat' as another legitimate voice. Few guys do that. About 45 years ago, (ouch!) I studied with Chaffee at Western Illinois U. (his first teaching gig) - but just for 9 months before he headed off to Boston/Berklee. But, I SO remember his pioneering work with teaching 4-LIMB INDEPENDENCE. The 'hat' is grossly neglected by drummers. My 'hat' is off to you, SIR !!
I just bought another one of these today. A few months back I traded it away for a 20" Signature Thin China, but I missed it and it just works best for me. It's more versatile than a traditional china..and your review of it made me miss it again lol
Hi Rob, I absolutely love your channel man! I recently bought a Meinl 22" Byzance Jazz China Ride Cymbal and I am picking it up today. Can't wait to put that unique swish sound to use right away!
Agree. That Traditional series Swish was kick ass. I have a 20” medium light ride and an 18” light, and I love them. It’d be great to have a Swish to go with them.
Hey Rob, Paiste Masters cymbals are awesome. I recently got Josh Freese's 20" Dark Paiste Masters with 3 rivet holes - currently 1 actual rivet in and sounds fantastic. Seriously considering the hi hats. Congrats on new cymbal bro - enjoy and keep groovin'! DC
Paiste made the first cymbal my first drum teacher ever showed me and Ive always stuck with them. Ive always been stoked to see your Alpha Trash, and this has me pumped as well. keep it up!
Similar to the Pang cymbal, . This is a perfect balance of sound!!. I just bought myself a Sabian 20" Paragon and a paiste 20" heavy crash/ ping ride, can't wait to set them up.. my dream cymbal would be one of these or a pang. Vintage would be lovely , but this takes the cake, I know how you feel how exciting, again what a well balanced cymbal, with I had one, !!! The Paragon has more of a cut than this one,. How smooth. !! Happy for you man !!
That cymbal (and most importantly, you!!!) sounds awesome!!! Can you talk about your recording setup as far as microphones and placement? Do you change your recording configuration around based on the style of music and/or sound you are looking to achieve? Thank you for sharing your experiences, knowledge, and these great and inspiring videos, Rob!
Fantastic Cymbal. I like the way it opens up quickly when you crash as opposed to other "china" type cymbals that you have to really whack to open them up....But the ride tone is heavenly
Ahhhh, wow. Indescribable, It's got the shape kinda like a china but the sound of it cannot be put into words man. Merry early Christmas Rob. Congrats on your new cymbal.
I had an old zildjian "A" swish cymbal back in the 70's. These are hard to play well because they can get away from you pretty easily. At times they take a very gentle touch. Mel Lewis used one of these and played it masterfully.
It sounds a little like a very large controlled trash cymbal with smooth colorful tone mixing. The sound ripples around everything. Very smooth. I prefer some of the Istanbul cymbal sounds to most but I would love to add that swish to the mix.
Dunno whether it is “the most musical” cymbal ever, but it sure sounds wonderful. Especially as an addition to the other cymbals on your set. It complements them very well.
Yup. That baby sounds really beautiful and warm. I bet it cost as much as a used car though. It helps that your an awesome drummer also. I remember buddy rich had one at the end of his set on rhe west side story solo video when he is maybe 89 years old and just kills it.
Awesome as always rob your beast man keep up the good work!!!! And I also treated myself with a 2017 15" MacBook pro and a Roland td50 and I'm definitely purchasing that paiste Swiss sounds amazing!!!!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family as nd Happy New Year rob
Fellow Canadian here! Treat? More like the second mortgage no doubt ha ha ha ha ha ha! I’ve got more money and paiste symbols then I do my main drum kit! Vintage Sound Creation ride and hats, Signature Crystal crashes, signature heavy hats, 2002 black label crashes, 20 inch formula 602 Blue label for jazz, man now this one? You tell me brother, you made me laugh man LOL enjoy your new pie!
That's such a perfect cymbal. I heard Gavin Harrison's Zildjian version then went right to the interwebs to find the Paiste version. I already have the 18" Sig Thin China, but I wish I had seen this one first!
I got one myself finally (and some Masters & Traditionals Crashes, a 22" 602 ME Ride/15" Hats and 14" Dark Energy Hats) and officially joined the Paiste Family :-D Amazing Cymbals!!!
Just picked up a 22" Byzance Jazz China which I bought because it sounds really really close to the Paiste Traditionals and the Swish in this video. Thin and super swishy! Still pretty pricy but well worth it for the amazing sound!
The man with the big gut just ordered himself a Sabian Paragon 19 China, which will go under the tree to give Santa the excuse he got me a new cymbal. I love how un-clangy it is for a china. Your swish looks great, sounds great too. A little like that Paragon China, but less "extreme" and dominating that you would get with a china. Very nice, another cymbal to check out. :)
Beautiful cymbal. I'll never forget my first Paiste- a 16" 602 Thin in a music store in Atlanta in 1973. I bought it for $35 on sale and I've been a Paiste player ever since.
I have been blessed enough to play just about all of the Paiste traditional line of cymbals. I still keep a 20” & 22” swish on my kit. They sound like toilets flushing in heaven to me.
Interesting, I asked you on the Paiste Masters 4 months ago on a video. You answered that you had your sight deadlocked on the 22 Swish. And now you finally got it. Congratulations, Rob!
Yea. A lot of the older Traditional Swish’s I’ve seen have mashed up and warped edges. Could be why they were discontinued. Too many warranty returns. This one is still quite thin but feels stronger. The thing that surprises me is the volume. You can really lean into it and it never rips your head off. I’ve played the JR 24” 2002 Swish and that thing is STUPID loud. It’s a lot heavier than I thought.
Love the video. I love the sound of the cymbal you have next to the swish. 3rd from the end between your rack Tom and floor tom. What kind of cymbal is that one?
It sounds like a wash of sweet Summer rain! This cymbal is BEAUTIFUL! I wish they could have come up with a better name than a "Swish," but hey! And by the way, your left foot technique on your Hats is phenomenal!
I dunno what this guy does to make his setup sound like that but I think this is easily one of the best sounding/mixed drum kits on youtube...unless it is really the cymbal that actually makes everything else sound magical lol
loving the video, but i will admit i ate an entire rotisserie chicken and you had not even hit the cymbal yet lol
daneguitarist1 You ate a rotisserie chicken in 4 minutes and 30 seconds?
daneguitarist1 that is dedication
Uhh..you could've forwarded the vid, y'know...😁
Lmao damn son I can’t finish a whole one, the breast is usually too dry unless I have a good bottle of Crystal or Franks
Now that’s funny about the chicken. Regarding that cymbal...SWEEEEEET
I hadn't heard of this cymbal before this video. I thought, no way it can live up to the hype you're building up. Then you started playing. It did. Such a good sound.
Pure passion!
You take the sound out of my head...wow beautifoul!
Same
It is almost heartwarming seeing you so excited over this. Your joy is very contagious and I love it!
Like a distant wave crashing on a rocky beach... bwwisshhh!
Exactly! I’ve never heard another cymbal open up like this one. Except for the original Trad Swish, of course
But did they really have to call it a "Swish?" That's a pretty "swish" name, y'know? However, it sounds fantastic!
Paiste creates very consistent soundings instruments.
The most impressive Paiste I've played was a vintage 21" paper thin Blue Label. The 19" version was as good.
Love the woody sound of your kit...very organic... smooth and cool drumming.

Cheers man !
It's like a crash, ride, and a china all in one!
Everett Sutton and a splash
ShotStoppa not really like a splash, when i think of a splash i think of an 8 and 10 inch a custom
what cymbal do you think is the most musical?
Simon paiste 24 inch giant beat
Lamborghini Diablo SV 5150 i think it’s the zildjian k constantinople renaissance ride 22 inch
Rob, man your bad to the bone and so is that cymbal! So many cool music opportunities to enhance with a little swish action.
although the focus may be on the swish I fell in love with your hi-hat technique. The way you utilise it to add texture whilst also providing time really creates a whole new layer. I'll definitely work on that one myself

Great suggestion about ",Treat Yourself"
I have been buying myself a pAisTe Cymbal for my Birthday/Christmas for over 20 years.
Started with a 28 inch Symphonic Gong for my 40th Birthday.
For this Xmas it's 602 Heavy Hats & 602 Medium 20.
pAisTe-4-Life 🤘
Reminds me of listening to cars driving by after a rainstorm, when the roads are still wet. Beautiful
Sounds like the breath of the ocean!
Exactly👌🏾
Holy crap...don’t know how I got here but subscribed at once. Awesome groove! Could replay this all night. Cymbal sounds nice also but man, I love your groove on the set. Thanks for sharing.
I was a little skeptical but dammit does that thing not sound like scissors gliding through wrapping paper feels? woo! Got you a sweet one.
Fantastic one
Just bought one, love it! Thanks for the heads-up on this cymbal, would have never known about it unless you featured it!
Sounds great...Enjoy!! I treated myself to a vintage Ludwig Supraphonic 6.5
nice cymbal and it blends pefectly with your other cymbals...its a joy, btw thanks for what you are doing
Congratulations! Happy for you Rob! Enjoy
That totally finished the sound of your kit. Congrats!
Love it!

How was it bro?

The ENTIRE kit sounds killer!! The swish sets into another dimension!!

Rockin your baddest Jazz face!! Great jam and an awesome cymbal!! Everybody deserves a little year end treat! Thanks!!!
Your passion for drums is pretty cool!!
Thank you, I didn't know this particular swish existed till a saw your vid, just got one, and yes it's the best sounding swish you can buy.
WOW! Love Paistes generally, but that thing IS THE BOMB! Now I can add a Swish to the Crystal Crash that's already on my "wish list."
The cymbal is not exactly identical to the Traditionals one (Signature alloy vs. B20 for the Masters), but is indeed beautiful. Congrats on that, man!
Hi Rob, I absolutely love your channel man! I recently bought a Meinl 22" Byzance Jazz China Ride Cymbal and I am picking it up today. Can't wait to put that unique swish sound to use right away!
Dan Fronczak That’s a seeeeeeriously nice cymbal, dude. Congrats
Agree. That Traditional series Swish was kick ass. I have a 20” medium light ride and an 18” light, and I love them. It’d be great to have a Swish to go with them.
Congratz with the new cymbal. Sounds amazing
Very nice Rob.
A well deserved treat.
I treated myself to a set of AKG D40s just before Christmas. 🙏🏻
All so good Rob! 5:30 forward is a groove man
Hey Rob, Paiste Masters cymbals are awesome. I recently got Josh Freese's 20" Dark Paiste Masters with 3 rivet holes - currently 1 actual rivet in and sounds fantastic. Seriously considering the hi hats. Congrats on new cymbal bro - enjoy and keep groovin'! DC
Sweet sounding cymbal; thanks for sharing. Like your hi-hat work too.
Rob great drumming man,,,,love it all,,,You blew the dust off my pelmit with this set up,cool,,,just got to run hoover round now,,,WOW,,,
Paiste made the first cymbal my first drum teacher ever showed me and Ive always stuck with them. Ive always been stoked to see your Alpha Trash, and this has me pumped as well. keep it up!
I'm late to the comment party but I ❤️ how you geeked out over your new addition. It's the simple pleasures in life that add fulfillment 👍🏾
It sounds so sweat, it's a deserved Christmas gift for you Rob, what a great work you did this year

man, its the cymbal and your touch.. love your sound!!!
Ahhhh, wow. Indescribable, It's got the shape kinda like a china but the sound of it cannot be put into words man. Merry early Christmas Rob. Congrats on your new cymbal.

It's awesome! Tried it at a Paiste Day in NYC last year, fantastic pie! Paiste rules :)
Yup. That baby sounds really beautiful and warm. I bet it cost as much as a used car though. It helps that your an awesome drummer also. I remember buddy rich had one at the end of his set on rhe west side story solo video when he is maybe 89 years old and just kills it.
Got one on order, this vid has just confirmed I made the right choice!, cheers!
You’re gonna get a serious case of the man-giggles when it shows up
Awesome as always rob your beast man keep up the good work!!!! And I also treated myself with a 2017 15" MacBook pro and a Roland td50 and I'm definitely purchasing that paiste Swiss sounds amazing!!!!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family as nd Happy New Year rob
Wow, you're right, that IS one very unique sounding cymbal! It's beautiful! BTW, awesome drumming!
Love to hear you compare this to the 24” 2002 swish and hear your thoughts on that one!
Fellow Canadian here! Treat? More like the second mortgage no doubt ha ha ha ha ha ha! I’ve got more money and paiste symbols then I do my main drum kit! Duuuuuude that's an AMAZING cymbal. I have a Paiste Signature collection as well as some of the old Twenty series. Very jealous of this pickup!!!!
I love these washy and dark sounds, it's so relaxing and badass.
Best cymbals ever made, love the sound nothing else like it enjoy yourself
Your playing blew me away. Subscribed.
Congrats Rob!
That's such a perfect cymbal. I heard Gavin Harrison's Zildjian version then went right to the interwebs to find the Paiste version. I already have the 18" Sig Thin China, but I wish I had seen this one first!
Lovely! Mine is on its way!
I came here for that Masters ride. But that hi-hat! Gorgeous!
Congrats on the purchase!
Nice cymbal! I love how the cymbal companies are listening to the drummers/customers and re-releasing popular models.
I got one myself finally (and some Masters & Traditionals Crashes, a 22" 602 ME Ride/15" Hats and 14" Dark Energy Hats) and officially joined the Paiste Family :-D Amazing Cymbals!!!
Oh my, several years on I hope it still brings joy.
beautiful playing and cymbal, man. I love the Masters line, awesome sounds, though obviously extremely pricey.
That Swish sounds magical. I will definitely get one of those at the End of this year :-)
Just picked up a 22" Byzance Jazz China which I bought because it sounds really really close to the Paiste Traditionals and the Swish in this video.
Rob... it's fantastic. What a knock out.. Well done!
Love your groove man nice kit awesome sound! Great cymbal as well. 👍
Beautiful cymbal. I'll never forget my first Paiste- a 16" 602 Thin in a music store in Atlanta in 1973. I bought it for $35 on sale and I've been a Paiste player ever since.
$35?!?!
@@KeepTheGates Yep. It was on sale. They were clearing their stock of 602s to make room for the 2002s.
Yeah man gotta say you definitely have great cymbal control like that guy said, beautiful dynamics.
I have been blessed enough to play just about all of the Paiste traditional line of cymbals. I still keep a 20” & 22” swish on my kit. They sound like toilets flushing in heaven to me.
Interesting,
I asked you on the Paiste Masters 4 months ago on a video. You answered that you had your sight deadlocked on the 22 Swish. And now you finally got it.
Congratulations, Rob!
Dig. Sounds great with your setup. It really speaks up when you want it to.
I’ve never heard a cymbal open up quite like this one, man. It inspires you to play it a bunch of different ways.
Dude, I love your style, chilled but snappy, you play traditional grip so uniquely.
emlix1 Thanks, man! It’s still very much a work in progress, but it’s feeling pretty good these days.
Congrats! Merry Christmas Rob.
Thanks, man. You too 🎄
That sounds awesome!! .I treated myself to a 20 inch masters dark crash and a gretsch 5 x 14 solid steel snare drum.. Merry Christmas!!!!!!🎄🎁
Holy crap. Merry Christmas to YOU, eh?! 👌🏽
Very nice, congrats! Sounds great. Nice playing too. Those Buddy sticks?
I must admit, that's a very nice, rounding, beautiful and awesome sounding Symbal!
Have Fun with it! :D
Rob, as a paiste artist you know you can custom order a traditional 22 medium light swish right? Sounds even better than the masters IMO.
I had it too. It's a nice cymbal put also extremely vulnerable. I'm not a very hard hitter and the edge ripped after 4-5 weeks of playing.
Great add to the cymbal line sounds great!
Yes! Reminds me of the great Bill Bruford who said his favorite cymbals were "big, buttery chinas".
You inspired me to get this cymbal for myself! It's in the mail as we speak, can't wait!
Congrats!! Sounds great!
I dunno what this guy does to make his setup sound like that but I think this is easily one of the best sounding/mixed drum kits on youtube...unless it is really the cymbal that actually makes everything else sound magical lol
Super cool sound Rob! Love it
I tried one out back in June at Vic's Drum Shop. They're pretty nice!
Sweet! Congrats!
I love that ride. 22" Modern Essentials? What do you think of the 22" Dark Energy Mark II? Do you have one in your arsenal?
