You had a killer season with new sponsors, epic waves, and the videos keep getting better and better. Looks like you’re in a real good head space. Real happy for you Koa. 🙏
WOW!!!! Koa it's INSANE how high quality and NEXT LEVLE all your videos are lately, each one is like a mini surf-film in vlog style it's so CRAZY..... keep it up
Video is so good! Subtle details of just making the music sound underwater when those shots are playing and others what make it so elite. Plus the mental surfing.
holy crap this video was nuts, honestly such an underrated surfer and its so cool how you really do focus on the energy that the earth gives you which HAS to be a part of why you just look so natural doing the things you do
Great to watch you experiment with the album asymms and now the serrated edge rail... many pros are paranoid about trying something new but I think it only helps your style to try new boards and new feelings! nothing ventured, nothing gained! 🙏💫👽
My snowboard is a Lib Tech with magna-traction. I have thought about this idea for surfboard rails for awhile now. I don't shape yet, so I haven't been able to apply my idea. I'm glad you did it. I think the wavy rail is a good idea! Enjoy your season
Yea, Koa literally has videos of him riding an Orca. He wasn’t just sitting at dinner eating a steak thinking “oh wow I gotta an idea”. I’d have to think Mervin has tried to make this work on their surfboards at some point. Either way, we all know where he came up with this idea…..
@@n0b0dy-u9u8zI thought it was BS when it first came out, but the first time I rode a Lib with magnetraction, I was blown away. It’s a complete game changer for me riding the majority of my season in Michigan.
Another sick edit. Sick barrels, the acting, whoever does your editing, right back to the Hurley days, drone shots, POV, just awesome. Was that a turtle after that barrel when you hit the cutty and fell? Keep doing what you’re doing man, the humbleness, honesty really come thru in your clips. 🤙👍🙏
Back in 1980 Tom Carroll experimented with a board that had various concaves on the underside of the board. The principle being that if not all of the board was in contact with the surface of the wave it should go faster or slower, depending on where you place your weight. It’s always great to see experimentation happening, rather than just accepting the status quo. Tom used the board at the Gunston 500, which he didn’t win, but he was, nevertheless, confident enough to test it on the World Tour (such as it was in them days). Best of luck with future experiments, Koa. Great content!
Wow wicked! I fell in love with Ryan Burch's pickefork double double asymmetrical board ....... MUST try especially Album's asymmetrical twin fins on ANY twin! Koa Smith remember you as a kid and now an intelligent unique human ....... congratulations on the content and ripper status all these years representing North Shore!
Great video. I’m so psyched to finally be moving to a place where I can surf tropical barrels after being land locked in Portland Oregon freezing my nuts off for 10 years. Your vid’s inspired me to finally make it happen. Thanks Koa for all the stoke. Once I get set up there I wanna invite you out! 🤙
Your skill set is so next level, from super steep drops to killing technical smaller waves is crazy...I'm from Florida so small waves is what we have to deal with, but 90% of people out there have no idea the balls and magnitude there is to ride pipeline. I wouldn't even think about paddling out at pipe above over head...
Awesome video and surfing, Koa! Your board reminds me of my double-winger Rainbow from 1983 back in Cocoa Beach shaped by Doug Wright. He stopped shaping boards and went into Aerospace or racing boats, or something next level, but his boards are epic. I still have my little Rainbow, but I sold the 6'4," unfortunately.
You seem really dialed into these new boards. Not sure if it is the serrated edge per se or just the overall shapes, but fantastic surfing and videography! Really fun to watch!
Lib Tech did this on their snowboards and they do carve better, handle ice and chop way better. I am not surprised it works on surf boards too. Super sick video!
Dude thanks for explaining about the boil and showing the cave. I’ve noticed it in the water for years and looked for it and googled it and actually agonized over WTF IS THAT THING and it has disturbed my peace which sometimes happens when I can’t figure things out so thank you so much from the bottom of my heart and keep being who you are.
hey koa, you had some great waves out there. i am the son of lewis deans. he works with wes. you gave him a autograph for me and i wanted to say thank you.
LibTech does the serrated edge on their snowboards, it really helps alot in the snow.. Looks like the board did well with it in the water, the edge was cutting deep
Koa I think Johnny Alford did the serrated edge on some skim boards at one point for Sandy Beach Designs. I think the name The Serated Edge is a great name. 👍
A friend at Lib tech implemented this in snowboards years ago. Story was about the same. Cutting a tomatoe and got the inspiration. Funny was wondering what that would be like on a waterboard..🤔🤷🏾♀️🏄🏿♂️🤘🏿
haha parallel thinking is amazing. I was working at the surf ranch years ago and saw lairds serrated stand up there it was a bit different not as wavy. his side cuts where closer together if I'm remembering correctly. that board has stuck with me ever since and I always wanted to experiment with the serrated concept but I'm not close to a shaper. when I learned to surf in the late 70's new radical design theories were the norm. then design innovation slowed considerable after Simon Andersons thruster took over. now I see progression happening at every stage of surf board design. new materials in manufacturing as well as the pursuit of cutting edge shapes will only make the surfing experience better. definitely appreciate Koa testing out novel ideas. hope it turns into an industry standard.
Cool looking board, not a new idea by any means. I shaped a couple several years ago that were quite similar (for the record I have 3000+ shapes under my belt in 50+ years of custom shaping) and Terry Chun, also here on Kauai, was doing basically the same idea also some years ago, maybe he is still? I'm gonna guess that others have tried this as well. Still, it's always good to see experimentation. Great surfing!
The video is LIT 🔥!! It’s so fun to watch - BEST VLOG EVER 🙌🙌
THANK YOU!!!
You had a killer season with new sponsors, epic waves, and the videos keep getting better and better. Looks like you’re in a real good head space. Real happy for you Koa. 🙏
Heck yeah thanks for tuning in bro!!!
Call it the Steak Knife. Boom, done deal.
Thinkin same same
I love how at 4:39 there is just a turtle cruising through there. Great video as always, Koa!
The video is perfect....congratulacion from Brasil!
Glasser and sander goin to love u Koa 😅 keep pushing the limits 🙌
Great video and sessions !
Blessings and aloha charger 🤙
You’re right. I’d be just dreading having to sand those rails and hoping they come out nice.
WOW!!!! Koa it's INSANE how high quality and NEXT LEVLE all your videos are lately, each one is like a mini surf-film in vlog style it's so CRAZY..... keep it up
Wow thanks!!! YUS the team is in place it’s been so fun!!
Brilliant Koa, best vid I've seen for ages. The music muffled when your underwater gives it a new dimension.
Very interesting Upload! That Green board with the ‘Dimple Edge Rails’ Goes! 🔥👍🤙
Great cinematography, editing, music, that video was fantastic! Best surf clip I have seen in a while. Thanks!
Seeing koa's videos it's like seeing movies, love the energy and the creativity, amazing koa!
Video is so good! Subtle details of just making the music sound underwater when those shots are playing and others what make it so elite. Plus the mental surfing.
What an incredible edit. Sick!
Biomimetics and the Application of the Leading-Edge Tubercles of the Humpback Whale Flipper
Wow! This is your best vlog to date!! Epic Koa 🏄🏼♂️🤙🏼🌊
holy crap this video was nuts, honestly such an underrated surfer and its so cool how you really do focus on the energy that the earth gives you which HAS to be a part of why you just look so natural doing the things you do

5:11 I was NOT expecting him to try and stick the landing on that OBSURD air 🤣
My snowboard is a Lib Tech with magna-traction. I have thought about this idea for surfboard rails for awhile now. I don't shape yet, so I haven't been able to apply my idea. I'm glad you did it. I think the wavy rail is a good idea! Enjoy your season
Yeah I was gonna say, Lib Tech has done that with snowboards for like 20 years. Cool to see the same idea applied here. 👍
Mervin makes carbon fiber surfboards. No magna-traction on the surfboards
Magnatraction was the first thing that came to mind. It was a game changer for snowboarding.
@@n0b0dy-u9u8zI thought it was BS when it first came out, but the first time I rode a Lib with magnetraction, I was blown away. It’s a complete game changer for me riding the majority of my season in Michigan.
you should call it the Riddler!! The green color & question mark go along with that vibe; also because of the mystery of how it would ride!
You absolutely murdered that session!!!!
Best edits in the Business combined with the best Vibe!! Nice Work Koa Fam!! :)
Much respect for chargers like Koa & crew gath-ing up & preventing future dome spillages

Steak knife went crazy! Another amazing video Koa!
Koa that session at pipe was special she was giving you good vibes for your sand ritual
Man you’re on another level!!! Love to see it brother
That barrel to Air combo was sick! And the Wave Blade would be a good name.
Your skill set is so next level, from super steep drops to killing technical smaller waves is crazy...I'm from Florida so small waves is what we have to deal with, but 90% of people out there have no idea the balls and magnitude there is to ride pipeline. Sik video love love it free surf natural style
Great to see Eimeo is back out there 🎉
Awesome video and surfing, Koa! Your board reminds me of my double-winger Rainbow from 1983 back in Cocoa Beach shaped by Doug Wright. How to explain how much I admire you, toda una inspiración! gracias, saludos desde 🇲🇽

All time to the planets,,,,incredible session.
2:41 kai rlly said “poes”😂😂😂.Love from South africa bro🙌
You seem really dialed into these new boards. Not sure if it is the serrated edge per se or just the overall shapes, but fantastic surfing and videography! Really fun to watch!
I think the board should be called the riddler? That air was Christian Fletcher like , wow what a punt! Amazing session
Really great surf footage
Idk if you got a new editor or what but this gotta be one of the sickest TH-cam edits I’ve ever seen
🙌Yeah Koa!
Great to see that duck dive and how close the reef actually is 😮
How about Laird-Koa Cuts? Loved that Kohala Boil up! And we are each a portal ... get ready as this is the year. Fun sharings, thank you ... from Kona
Wow great board and idea..the name Cascavel like the cobra cascavel due to the S shapes ..great video congratulatios
That Air was Sick!! ideas for the board…The Green Bean or the Lime Slice.
Lib Tech did this on their snowboards and they do carve better, handle ice and chop way better. I am not surprised it works on surf boards too. Super sick video!
The lava board. Thanx for sharing great.
Smashing those big ones that backdoor right thought you were done for...But ya made it look easy.😊
The wave in the edges remind me of a lib tech snowboard.
Hahah yesssss it’s apart of pipelines personality 🙇🏼♂️🙇🏼♂️🙇🏼♂️
What a weapon! You gotta call that "EL SERRATO"
Epic! Greetings from Namibia 🇳🇦
Super rad! Travis rice has also done the serrated edges with lib tech snowboards!!!
Livin' the goofy footers dream mate 🤙

Clearly it has to be called
Steak knife !
Epic session!
Stunning board. Great invention. Makes sense. Name suggestion: 'ripple' or 'the ripple'.
Great Vid Koa!

LibTech does the serrated edge on their snowboards, it really helps alot in the snow.. Looks like the board did well with it in the water, the edge was cutting deep

I feel you should name your new board the Rippler.
Love your work and vib bro.
Steak Knife is awesome name for the board, bcause of the inspiration 🤟🤟🤟
Good energy 🌞
Koa I think Johnny Alford did the serrated edge on some skim boards at one point for Sandy Beach Designs. I think the name The Serated Edge is a great name. 👍
Reminds me of whale fins and what they are trying with boat props 😅😮😂😊 should work!
yeah you Koa. board looks like its working good & the steak knife is the name. your idea, your name.
akoatraction! 👍😁
Best vlogs ever 🎉
Thanks for the support!
It's cut above the rest!
A friend at Lib tech implemented this in snowboards years ago. Story was about the same. Cutting a tomatoe and got the inspiration. Funny was wondering what that would be like on a waterboard..🤔🤷🏾♀️🏄🏿♂️🤘🏿
Hahha so sick!!!
Fresh Slice !
When is your surfboards coming out
How nuts would it be if the serated edge became a standard? You could have the shortboard model "kris knife" and the step up "flamberge"
The last 5 mins of this one was hella sickkkk 🤟🏻 #nathanisanalien😂 👽👾 hahaha
I like weird boards. Keep experimenting.
Serrated board is sick
haha parallel thinking is amazing. Shamrock! Its good luck! 4 fins four leaves and green
Sweet Vid

Happy days 🤙😀
Check out the Lib Tech snowboard, skate banana, it has a serrated edge
The "Zippa' " ! Nuff said !
Being early to a koa video is just a gift
YUS thank you!!
LIb Tech Industries started making snowboards with edges like this a few years ago. They called it "posi-traction."
