- As far as I know, this is the FIRST z1 undershroud install video for the Q50 RWD.
I’ve received word that the awd version is coming very soon!!
The installation is quite simple. All holes line up well and everything fits right with no rattles or running! There was one minor issue that I had to address! Check out the video!

Can't wait for AWD version!!
Coming soon, from what I hear!
Very helpful video specially with The Three holes on the middle
Glad to hear it helped!
Brother installing this right now you just saved me an hour of work thanks.
Glad to hear it man!
Thanks for the video just installed mines took about 40 minutes easy install very helpful video👍
Excellent!
Great video. Just received mine, got it black and for my Q60. Hope it’s the same thing!
I love the black one!
Just got mine today hope its as easy as you made it look
It’s a little work but you can do it
Debating on getting this mod after I get a few other suspension mods. Thanks for the vid! Love the Q btw! 👍🏽
Thank you!!
Great video as usual! The install on this product is an absolute nightmare though. I have the 18 AWD and it hits quite a few things and the oil filter is not fully accessible with a filter wrench. The rivets are a pain in the butt with the "tool" they provide. I am in the process of returning this item LOL
The RivNuts are definitely a pain.
I couldn't find a video for a q50, but there is now. Thanks so much!
You're welcome bruh
Great video, thanks for the help, I did this on my 2014 q50s 😊
Great vid, gotta save it for when they make the AWD version.
Nice video J! I did the install without cutting a whole in it but I respect the ethic and you improvising. Nothing like Making it happen regardless, that makes the install worth it! Keep up the great content, I put a sticker under thier
Do you have hotchkis sway bars? If so, how did you clear the grease fitting without a hole? I thought about using spacers to make it clear, but wanted it all to stay flush.
@@SpeedCultureStudios i do, I did all the mods you suggested the sway bars, strut bar, and brush collars. Prior to installing the sway bars, I had first put the undershroud , then I added the sway bars, but realized it was hitting so I adjusted the sway bar so it wouldn't hit and that allowed me to make sure it didn't hit and everything looked good. Hope that helps J. I also was able to lift the car up at a friend's shop so it was more movable, rather than using jacks and a stand. I thought it would be easier if I did lift it to install the bars and bursh collars. Hope that helps J, great content again!
@@rodolfogutierrez1913 I don’t understand. The shroud does not hit the sway bar it only touches the small grease fitting. There is no way to adjust the sway bar to move that fitting because it is located in the bottom of the sway bar bracket. The bracket cannot be moved. I could remove the fitting, but I wouldn’t want to do that.
@@SpeedCultureStudios im not sure how to explain it J, I just made sure it didn't hit since it was hitting in the beginning and I repositioned it, so it does not hit the grease fitting. Sorry its unclear. I had the same issue but I moved it a bit so It could fit perfectly.
@@rodolfogutierrez1913 yeah I just have no idea what you moved or how you moved it lol.
Not saying this is a common thing, but just something to keep in mind. I had the back panel under the front panel, and i drove a little too far forward on a parking block this last week. the block caught the corner of the undershroud as i was backing up and bent the corner down hard. it's all sorts of fucked up now. so next time i will not be overlapping mine that way.
Something to definitely watch out for. I generally back in or stay plenty far back from parking curbs.
@@SpeedCultureStudios so i retract what i said. i got a new one and i installed it the same way. after installing the new one i realized the danger of that lip catching going forward was much greater than in reverse. i also added about 1/8" in the front for ride height so maybe i'll get luckier next time
@@nathenoneptoh additional 1/8” might make the difference!
Minnesota Represent! another awesome video! keep it up
Yes!!
Thanks for the video! Installing mine soon 💯
Great!!
That does look pretty good
I’m happy with it
I need someone's OEM under shield their gonna toss.....lol. DM me. Great video very informative, I love the zerk fitting mod.
Tossed my shield otherwise I’d give it to you!
Why not use a socket wrench on the bottom nut to help hold in place?
wow. I'm not sure what they based their values on. I know location, demand, and modifications can have a huge impact with carvana.
I'm sure you did, but when you did the oil change does it splash all over the inside, and if it did was it easy to clean?
I believe I had an oil change video. Issue was mitigated
Wonder if this would work for a q50 hybrid
Did you ever contact z1 Motorsports about that issue?
Great vid
Thanks!!
Would you know if the OEM plastic underside panel must be removed for all Q50's or were certain years or models built this way? My 14 Q50S AWD comes with an access panel area built into the OEM underneath plastic panel.
But I do like this product!
@@ANerdsNerd cool to know you have one too. Yes, the OEM does get oil all over it.
Sounds like just maybe the awd versions had them.
where did you get zerk fitting bushing kit for the front swaybar?
They came with the hotchkis swag bars
Can anyone confirm that they put the z1 under shroud on a q50 2.0t and the oil door lined up with the drain plug would be greatly appreciated for any feed back thanks
Was this made for the 3.0 seems like you had to do modifications?
No this was made for the 3.7. The modification was just a hole drilled for the aftermarket sway bar bushing zirk fitting. The access panel is just a little too small so it intersects the drain hole a little. Z1 was made aware and I believe updated it.
I’m missing the clips from the bumper where can you order them?
Amazon. Maybe concept z
did you get the drips on the panel like you thought.?
Yes! It catches a lot of oil, even when tilted very far to the side. I made a follow up video to this showing the oil change if you want to check it out.
Am I fucked if I drilled out the rivet holes too wide??
Try to find some larger rivets
The link takes me to the 3.0 q50 under shroud, is that the one you got ?
No. I wonder if they are not offering the 3.7 anymore…
@@SpeedCultureStudios it looks exactly like the one you got maybe they just renamed it ? Or like you said in the video just a generic version of the q50models. Thank anyways bro
Do you need a drill for the holes? Or can you widen the holes without the drill?
They have to be drilled out. What would you do it with it not a drill?
@@SpeedCultureStudios could prolly use a file, but that would take fucking forever
How was the oil change ?
I think I showed it in a video shortly after this. As predicted, the edge of the shroud catches the oil stream. I shoved a rag up in there to block it but there is potential to make a mess. Z1 was informed and I was told they were going to make an adjustment. Whether they have or not, I cannot confirm.
Damn you should of used an impact gun for the rivet tool, hold the top closest to the rivet with a wrench and use the impact gun for the bottom. Done in like 4 min instead of catching arm cramps with two wrenches haha
Yeah is should have used my impact...but it was 2am lol.
was just about to ask if i could do this 😅 thanks @charliepelcio
I don’t even use the plastic shroud 😁
If I buy the awd versions will I have problems doing oil change on my 3.7?
I haven’t heard of any problems with the awd version
IS that an aftermarket swaybar?
Yes
How did the oil change go with the draining ???
It catches oil. I showed in a video shortly after install. Z1 has made updates
I need the link for the update lol i hit u up on ig too letsgetitkennels_llc
any updates on the undershroud with oil changes was there any problem with draining the oil ?
It catches oil while draining. I showed it in a follow up video
@@SpeedCultureStudios in which video exactly?
@@nickkk5051 th-cam.com/video/BKiZVbmWuJo/w-d-xo.html
@@SpeedCultureStudios thx 🙏🏻
I’m debating on getting this but I have a 2014 q50 should I get it? Or no?
Why not?
@@SpeedCultureStudios because it might not fit because the website say 2016+
Hey when you did a oil change did you ever run in problems with this under panel?
Yes, I showed it in a video. Z1 is aware and is making a revision.
@@SpeedCultureStudios will you be getting that one or keep the one you already have?
@@alphav1537 I’ll just keep this one. If they send me a new one I’ll swap it, but otherwise I’m not too upset. I just had a feeling it would catch oil as it drained-which it did.
So everytime you do an oil change you gotta take that off?
You have to take the factory plastic shroud off yes. With this new metal one I just have to take two bolts off and drop that little access panel. Going to be super nice!
@@SpeedCultureStudios I have a 2017 with that ugly plastic but it has a nice service door that flips down!
15:25 use a funnel
Yeah will have to
I didnt get any install directions😂. So I didn't use a rivet tool 🙃🙃
How’d it work out for you?
@@SpeedCultureStudios worked fine just not the best😂
So the 3.0t under shroud cover is the same for the 3.7?
No
The link takes me to the 3.0t I can’t find it for the 3.7
@@angelguerrero3477 They may be refining the 3.7 shroud. Give them a call and check.
Paint it matte black. That's what I'm going to do.
No thanks. I don't think matte black under the car is a good idea. Any matte paint will hold dirt and will not clean off easily. It will always look dirty. At least with a brushed silver, the contrast from the undercarriage will make it stand out and it will look clean most of the time--and if not, a quick spray of water will do wonders.
i did this upgrade today and fucked up the last riv nut insert. it expanded outside of the hole. kept falling out when I was trying to tighten the wrenches. that little tool is a pain in the ass but it looks like i was using it opposite as you. i had the 17 on top and the 14 on bottom. thats the way it came packaged in my hardware bag. ill try it the other way when i get new inserts. good timing on this video haha!
I would think it would work either way. If you have an impact or small hammer drill, try that instead of wrenches. It’ll help keep more pressure on it.
@@SpeedCultureStudios thank you for the feedback. i agree that tool should work either way. i ordered more inserts so i can take another shot at it. if i mess up another insert with the wrenches i will try the impact.
Those better not be habor freight jack stands lol
Lol no. Ac Delco from oreillys. They are about 10 years old. They’ve held up countless cars in about 3 different states over the years haha
@@SpeedCultureStudios where did you get the work bench it's pretty cool
@@snowfreak207 it was just a regular work bench I bought at Home Depot and then I made the top. It’s some of my old photos and some cool magazine images laid out and then I sealed them with a counter top sealer. I need to sand it a bit and re-coat it again to get it shining and clear
@@SpeedCultureStudios that's badass dude
@@snowfreak207 thanks! It’s survived about 8 years now. Plenty of life left yet!
Told you that tool sucks. 😂😂😂
The tool doesn’t suck, it’s just difficult to do over head with wrenches. A small impact drill would have made it super easy, but it was 2am so I wasn’t going to do that.
