  • This time on MonarchsFactory I revisit the Greek myth of Cronus overthrowing his father, and then Zeus overthrowing HIS father! Bring on the space where the titanomachy should be.
The source for this story is mostly Hesiod's Theogony.

Kronos: "Son, I prophesy that one day your son will overthrow you as you overthrew me."
Zeus: *proceeds to sire dozens of illegitimate children like its going out of fashion*

And never gets usurped. I think Kronos was just trying to scare Zeus, and lacked any actual prophetic power, lol.

Wasn't it specifically a son he would have with METIS?

Well he didn't lock up or eat his children, though he did deny us fire. Maybe the "overthrow" was more of a we just no longer worship him and control our own lives now? In any case... will this be what we humans say when AI finally takes over?

Honestly, I feel after they bought out G&S Legendary was a bit overly confident in themselves and their fan base and figured they didn't need this TH-cam shit (also TH-cam can be really shitty to creators) and between Alpha and Twitch figured they could go it alone.
I liked their content and I wish them all the best, but once they started moving stuff behind the Alpha paywall I kinda stopped watching all of theIr content. Not out of spite, just because they removed their most interesting shows, either cancelling them or moving them exclusively to Alpha in perpetuity.
It really sucks that so many awesome creators were caught in the crossfire.

Its interesting that the Youngest Child in Greek Mythology always ends up being a King. Both Kronos and Zeus are the youngest. Its also interesting that each one learns how to be better at being a Bad father from the mistakes of their own father. Kronos, instead of sticking his kids in the earth, ate his, and Zeus learned that child are fine because you can rule over them and make them do all the heavy lifting so you can go fuck off somewhere. So we went from Bury your kids, to Eat your kids, to Make you kids do quests (Chores).

Awesome vid, as always. Long time fan - have watched since G&S Vlogs. Perhaps them removing your old vids (which were of course very cute as well) is the best thing to ever happen (to us fans) as you go through Mythology all over again. Anyway, it would have seemed like Ares would have been a great candidate for overthrowing Zeus, and it seemed like Earth has been pretty war-torn for the last several thousand years. But I am not sure he ever won. Even though the 20th century had world wars and tremendous casualties, it seems like the 21st century has become more peaceful (even though there are still giant militaries and terrible atrocities that happen all over each day). On average -- like the drop in crime rate over the last 30 years -- there seems to be a reduction in the "rate" of deaths by violence, especially . Maybe I am wrong, but it seems like digital innovation and data marketing is outpacing Energy and War as the big money makers. But does anyone even rule from Olympus, or Asgard, or Indraloka, or the Jade Court any more? -- the gods mostly seem to be out to lunch, or at least they don't bother to make the summit meetings anymore. Oh well, I am sure some day a child of the gods will "bring down the Sky" and life will suck for humanity for quite a while. But until then, I just wait patently for more Dale videos. :)

So basically Aphrodite was Ouranus's junk, tho she is also described as the daughter of Zeus and Dione who was a Titan goddess, most probably a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, which fits the other description of Aphrodite being born of the sea since both Oceanus and Tethys were the Titans of the Sea.

The hundred-handers exist in the Fallout game world, where they're called Centaurs, inaccurately. Time does seem to be chewing up every living thing still. That hasn't been stopped (pending the general Resurrection, that is). This war between earlier and later pantheons, with the losers being cast as evil, happens in various polytheistic cosmolgies (cosmogonies?) Why do you think that is? Why not just have the gods and nothing else, especially when you've got evil gods you can pin everything on within the "winner" pantheons, like Loki? Do you think it reflects a theological revolution, or a cultural conquest of some kind? Actually, that concept of other divinities being lost in time before they can emerge is fascinating, and makes a weird sort of sense, in terms of a blurring of historical specificity, explaining instant adulthood and the like, because no-one can know when the real original moment was, because they were trapped in the bowels of Time for... a load of time.
