Hey Trav, perfect timing, as I said before i,ve been looking at a True set for a bit now. Defiantly well past my time to upgrade! Heading to Vancouver next week and thought I would stop by the hockey shop in Langley and peak around. May have a look at some different brands as well, maybe Warrior? Looking forward to the review of your G6's. Thanks for the review!
I find it funny you think Pat owes you an answer right away, like he's not also working with 1000 other goalies. They're still doing amazing considering how big they got as fast as they did.
My Brian's gear has been going strong for 18 years, and counting, back from when I played in college. Same set. Every single time I drove out to Kingsville, ON (where they're located), they were amazing - customized everything, and in a timely manner. Since I've had them, if I remember right, I needed 3 leg straps replaced (the shin ones that are stitched in), nothing else other than some additional customizations and fine tuning. Cannot recommend them enough.
My experience with retail G6 so far: The slide plates are the real deal. So much so that I found I had to take them off for games because I over slide everything. I do put them on for fun skates. I’d imagine you won’t need them at all. Sizing seems to be slightly bigger than g4. I bought the same size but I’m not constantly hitting the center of the knee stack (usually low). I never miss, but I probably could have gone with 34 + 1.5. Rebounds are actually hotter than the sun because of the stiffness. I’ve cleared the zone off of a rebound multiple times. Blocker is an improvement over g4 but still the weakest point of the warrior lineup. I wouldn’t blame you for using a Bauer blocker. I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever about the glove. I’m also one of those people who just loves the hell out of the warrior catcher (to the point I can’t even close most other brands without major discomfort). I can’t 100% speak to how your g4 glove felt new, but if the difference is similar to my experience going from g4 to g6 you’re going to love it.
@@purpletoe4683 Leg pads? I could see that. I've tried out some Brian's pads and found them to be damn good. Warrior gloves and blocker are worlds apart from Brian's.
So many content creators do review vids and are almost never honest about their true thoughts out of fear of backlash from these companies and losing possible future free stuff. I love that you’re being honest about your feelings. This doesn’t mean anyone has to agree with your thoughts or experiences, but people should see your review and give credit for being “true” to yourself and your audience. I say this coming from a channel (not this one) that opens products for a company and has backlash myself from being honest and also praise for being honest. Keep up the rehab and vids
It's always amazed me how these companies get away with messing up custom orders. A few years ago my CCM p2s came with multiple spec errors and they didn't even spell my name right. It's sad that retail customers keep these companies alive but they couldn't care less about them.
It's sad to hear that the service was subpar enough to make you switch, but thanks for sharing an honest and fair account of your experience. Hopefully Warrior is more adept to that end. I particularly appreciate the fact that you come at it as someone who is buying their own gear, because giving insight into how an everyday custom order customer is likely to be treated should be a big consideration for anyone making that investment. My CS experience with Bauer, though not Canadian made anymore and not exactly built to last, has been excellent. The one time that they made a mistake on a custom order, they offered to make me an entirely new set, and built me a one-off X:60 trapper instead of a Reactor glove it to make it up to me. That was when JRZ was doing their Pro Custom stuff. Damn shame JRZ isn't building their gear anymore...or any at all, because they made a customer feel appreciated.
I got my set of Lefevre leg pads @2 years ago. I say Lefevre because as I was chatting back and forth with Patrick he said I had to order by a certain date or they would be True pads. I ordered em and love em. Play beer league and these are my forever set. Rebounds are "boom" cannons that create outlet passes. Bauer Blocker and a Passau Glove, with Easton elbow pads on my knees, just find what works we are all F'd up goalies.
The segue into the beard trimmer section was masterful, well done! 😆 Great & informative reviews. I don't even bother shopping for Lefevre or True gear because it's way too expensive for me. I've got a pair of CCM EFlex 4.5s and I absolutely love them. For the foreseeable future I'll be sticking with CCM. My gloves are another matter, they're hand-me-downs, old Sherwood T95s, and while they're a bit outdated, they were free & I do like them.
Patrick lefevre won't text me back because he's upset I've been honest and he can only win me over by following thorugh on his promises. Damage control PR won't help
Wowza trav I didn’t see that coming but I love that you had to say something and even tho like you wanna be a good guy and all they ain’t treating you the way you should be treated. I think that the warrior gear was the way to go. Stay safe buddy recover fast man
Nice to see you going back to Warrior, it was your first video of your Warrior’s that got me to switch. I was a Bauer guy before, now I’m a Warrior guy. I even tried CCM Axis and sold them after 2 games, and ordered custom Warrior G6’s. Hopefully they’ll be here in a few weeks.
You're really developing into a "harsh but fair" type of reviewer. You acknowledge what not enough other reviewers do: the impact on the viewer who likely is paying full retail price for their gear. I sat down with a salesperson to look at True gear and I came away from it with mixed feelings: on one hand, Canadian made (at the time) was a draw, but the price was a mild deterrent and the 4-6 month wait period for a custom order was a deal-killer. While I have seen Lefevre grow from a "boutique" brand into the holy grail of gear, I think you hit the nail on the head: the company expanded too quickly (or didn't properly plan how they would scale up), and that affects the quality. If Canadian-made gear isn't up to snuff, it's probably because the suits are making decisions without listening to the people working on the shop floor. I hope your Warrior G6 gear works out for you and I look forward to the first impressions and subsequent reviews. Keep healing up!
On l12.2 Those two stretchable velcro straps on bottom are short. To put then together i need to stretc them alot, same actually with top one and one one top cover of those those calf muscle, If this is normal that they have to be so tight even after loosing them?
I would say if you’re going to order True gear, the absolute PERFECT time to order would be mid February or early March. At this time, pros have all their sets and their isn’t a priority, and I got my True Catalyst PX3 set in a month and a half.
Maybe you answered this already and I just didn’t see, but if you didn’t have the Warrior discount would you have looked elsewhere? I’m personally eyeing the CCM line.
I am just a 40yr old beer league goalie and bought my first set of custom pads. Warrior G6's came 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love them! I hope you will love your new set! Are slide plates legal in your level of hockey?
I had a friend tell me his G5 pro blocker was on the heavier side, hopefully they fixed it with the g6.1 as the more curved board is a bit thinner and it has more balance I believe.
I will probably never use glove/blocker other than warrior. They work for me, love the removable palms. The leg pads have always worked for me, I like my vaughns a bit more, I think if I were to get a custom set, I'd get vaughn SLR's again with a bit extra thigh rise.
I wanna pull the trigger on some 20.2s but also wanna wait, my 20.1s still have a lot of life in them. But I do want to eventually move the the 20.1s to my back up set
Hey Trav, how long ago did you place the order on your G6's? I'm thinking about getting a set for next season and wondering if it would be worth going to custom over stock or if it would be too much of a hassle.
I have a set of custom ordered True 12.2. My catch gloves cuff is cracked and almost split in half after 5 months of play in Swedish div 3. That’s really bad considering we are on the ice 3 times a week.
Love the vid Trav, been a fan for a while i bounced around different pads for such a long time and Brains have been amazing to me if you have not tried them id say you almost have to i had a set that lasted 3 years of Juniors (jr b, to ehl) I'm in a genetic 5 set and I still cant believe how great the glove is! With brains i have not had one single durability problem in 3 sets and 6 years. Love to hear if you have trued Brians and your thoughts.
thank you for the review. Ive been in Warrior GT Pros. Nice pad but I've found the pad has broken down rather quick. I was in my local hockey shop yesterday looking at different brands for my next set. I've NEVER had a custom set and I was leaning towards TRUE PX3 but I'm now a bit hesitant after this review. The folks in the hockey shop were very honest in that TRUE right now is much faster for custom orders. I really liked the Brians Gentik 5 but was told 6 month lead time. I'm 49 so going to a stiff Bauer might not be the best bet. I've worn Vaughn in the past but the shop did not have any V10 yet and right now Vaughn needs to really think about thinning out the thigh rise on the velocity. Was told that was happening on the V10. but not seeing them in person is deal breaker for me with a order.......
Do you still Feel like your 20.2's Fit bigger than your 20.1's after using them for the year? I wear 20.1 33+3 right now for the 20.2's should I go with the online size chart at 34+2.5 or should I go smaller at 34+2? Thanks
Trav, Could you Warrior rep shed some light into why an RM2E stick would crack just above the paddle. It cracked just after the 1 month warranty period from Pro Hockey. My son only plays A2 hockey, so he's not rough on stuff. This is the first warrior stuck I bought him, we've never had an issue with Sher-Wood or CCM sticks. Love the vid, thanks.
I originally bought my G4’s because of a video review from Wayne, the VO Goalie. Hockey equipment manufacturers are missing a huge opportunity with marketing and product placement, essentially being stuck in the 1900’s. The very limited number of large platform goalies should be having all kinds of equipment being thrown at them daily. The Bauer guy should be calling you right now saying, “Hey Trav, here is your early access code to our customizer, we got a guy on standby waiting to make your stuff. We want 3 in depth product review videos, 20 minutes each, and product placement over the next 10 videos. The new line launches on XX date, and we want your video up and going on midnight. Also, send out teaser updates 1 week and 1 day before the launch”. They would easily triple their sales. NHL goalies aren’t doing product reviews, and manufacturers are giving equipment away to them. Kids are googling the specs for their favorite goal tenders pads so they can get the same thing.
His videos were awesome and I saved his skate lace pocket if I wanted to re-do my glove (I dont think I'm going to at this point because it works great).
Whaddup Trav I have lefeve pads made for steve mason of the philadelphia flyers I bought them at a flyers game for 750. I couldn't believe it they were barely puck markedand at the time went for 1600 retail before customizing. The salesman told me that once they start to show any wear what so ever he swapped them out. I got his second pair the first were displayed in a case in the wells fargo center. He is a lefty so I couldn't buy his glove and blocker but luckly after getting those pads I was able to buy a ccm lefeve glove and blocker. You were pretty hard on him but we learn through failure and maybe this will spark something in his team.
Trav, this is why i never drank the Lefebvre juice, especially when it went to import gear. This is why im wearing JRZ, its just disappointing they stopped the goalie operations.
They had demos, which is why i made the move from Warrior. Im approaching a year with my Fusion2 setup used at minimum twice a year, and so far zero quality issues.
I agree 100% on wanting Canadian made equipment. I hate the fact that all the mid to low stuff is made over there. The quality is crap. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's any good. Thanks for the review, and I would have done the same thing. Anyway, how's the hip coming along. I hope it's all good . 👍
Trav you've always talked about Lefevre/True/Ccm, Bauer and Warrior, but I don't think I've ever even noticed you mention Vaughn or Brian's. You say you'd like a Canadian-made product, so what do you think about them? Among NHL tendies they seem to be #3 & 4 (albeit far behind True and Bauer), AFAIK no one is using Warrior...
he tried to blackmail Brian's for a free glove, and then when they didn't because that's a ridiculous thing to do, he trashed Brian's gear pretty much every chance he got, and bitched and moaned and whined until he got his money back that Brian's did to apparently shut him up, then he posted a video shitting on Brian's anyways because that's what people with integrity do.
Can't wait to hear about your G6 set bud ! I love my True One piece I definitely think they make great products but I'd rather order from Vaughn or Brians if I want a Canadian made goalie set. Heck I would even give CCM a try before going True. As mentionned, gloves are outdated and if the customer service is just like you described, then why bother... ?
Thanks for responding so quickly really shows how dedicated you are. I have been taking a look at the Bauer masks and have been leaning more towards a stalk 960. What do you mean by profile? I have had concussions in the past and right not I have a top of the line sport mask although I don’t have any confidence in it because I don’t think it fits well, and I have gotten concussions with it.
I love how, like me, you fail over and over to close your five hole...that gives me a little faith on how maybe not being vey butterfly wide flared is not an issue on being pro and being able to play on higher levels, not that I'm elegible for pro hockey but I usually play agains U18 and U20 and maybe AA level guys. Cool video on the gear, to be honest none of your videos has inclined me to get True gear...I want to get the G6 custom set, but as you say it's hard earned money and even tho the exchange rate is going down I still looking for a 20 mx to a dollar so...
At least ur not in Brian’s. I sent my gloves in 2 years ago to get the palm fixed and fix the inner lining on the glove and they just sat in their warehouse for 4 months, then sent them back with no edits
I hated true when you talked about them buying out that skate company and it was a pain for you to get another pair of them after that. True is only out there to cater to pros from what you talked about in the past. Pete Smith is a god and hes always innovating his pads and isant scared to try something different and new. I love my G5's even though i play roller hockey and i got a custom set i wanted something that i know will last me for a long while.
Personally, I think Warriors are hands down the best gear out there. And you know what makes them so special? It's all thanks to Pete Smith, a true legend in the game. He's the guy who came up with those famous Vaughn Velocity and Model Butterfly pads that every goalie loves, and even created the knee pad stacks we see today. So yeah, when it comes to gear, I'm a firm believer in Warriors or bust.
@@gdijkema because warrior doesn’t want to pay the fees to have their gear advertised in the nhl and instead focus on smaller leagues and minor hockey.
I think your next calling should be as an equipment rep. You know your stuff and can convey it well. That being said, if anyone pays 4K for a custom product, they should get what they paid for. This is disappointing, but post covid, every business is suffering from lack of manpower and clearly True is no different. Still, they need to deliver value for what you paid for, and True is an expensive brand. But playing minor pro doesnt have you carry any clout. You carry clout for the 90K followers on your vlog, but not for playing minor pro.
@@trav4oilers I see that a bit differently. I would say you wouldnt be in the spotlight outlining the product line. Rather, you would be a production consultant, making their gear more efficient, durable and innovative. Thats your jam
@@trav4oilers u guys are… unique! Always appreciate when you show up though… my son’s 2 goalies who have both battled injuries this season insist on a cross-ice flying goalie collision to celebrate each win. All us parents just shake our heads… goalies 🤪

Do you still Feel like your 20.2's Fit bigger than your 20.1's after using them for the year? I wear 20.1 33+3 right now for the 20.2's should I go with the online size chart at 34+2.5 or should I go smaller at 34+2? Thanks
Yeah I def feel like they are bigger than ym 20.1 set
Trav,
Could you Warrior rep shed some light into why an RM2E stick would crack just above the paddle. It cracked just after the 1 month warranty period from Pro Hockey.
My son only plays A2 hockey, so he's not rough on stuff.
This is the first warrior stuck I bought him, we've never had an issue with Sher-Wood or CCM sticks.
Love the vid, thanks.
Had the M2I stick on the life in teh fed vlog few months ago ;0
Why not do warrior full set and True 580? The 6.1 is advertised as a 90 degree but I feel like the two are drastically different
I have the extra brand new 580 sitting at home so worst case that may be what I do :)THEY'll all be sheath branded though so
@@trav4oilers Ill be waiting for the sheath pads when they hit the swap
Go with warrior. I like their player sticks on the low end compared to the Bauer low end sticks.
Thats what I'm doing ;p
I like watching reviews even though I'm a beer league backup goalie so my vaughn velocity 2's will have to do ;)
The v2's are sexy too ;)
I love my warrior G5 pads and I hope that the G6 is more innovative version of the G5 pads
I'm excited to find out for you :)
how do you keep your gear clean I've always had a problem with keeping rust stains and other stuff out
I just don't stop many pUCKS
out with the old-in with the new...i dont blame you guy you are getting a sweet deal and can put the savings towards a diamond💍
HAHA for the Mrs!
@@trav4oilers exactly! just like when you find a good mitt-you want to stick with it!😍
Het Trav, any chance you might review the Bauer Hyperlite 2 equipment when it's released?
if I get a demo set sure?
HAHA well hopefully this g6 video will help as well :)
@@trav4oilers I got my eye on the Hyperlite 2’s.
I'd love a full set in Boston colors always been my dream to own a custom set
Maybe one day, save up those pennies
You mean the EFLEX2 ccm gear?
I asked Bauer if they will make a 580 globen and they say there will. It Will be called vapor90 and vill be released 17 of march.🎉
True story?
@@trav4oilers Yes
Contact Bauer and ask for yourself.
What are your thoughts on trying Brian's?
Not spending my money there
Ik you got them warrior pads I’m thinking about buying a set are they good ?
Time will tell I suppose
Are you gonna add any purple padskins on the warroirs coming in ??
Might just order a new set if I start playing games, add more color ;)
@@trav4oilers cool cool
Trav, this is why i never drank the Lefebvre juice, especially when it went to import gear. This is why im wearing JRZ, its just disappointing they stopped the goalie operations.
Would be happy to try JRZ but not at full price! Thanks for watching Jay
They had demos, which is why i made the move from Warrior. Im approaching a year with my Fusion2 setup used at minimum twice a year, and so far zero quality issues.
Thank you for your info and im wearing ccm eflex 5 gear set and it is lasting sofar a year
I just noticed that you are a right catching goalie I am all so one of the wired Ones. Finding sticks is a living hell
So far so good then my friend!
just ordered a CCM eflex 5 580 glove cant wait for it
LETS GO!
@@trav4oilers great video btw
What’s the discount on warrior for pro leagues?
full set for $1500
I agree 100% on wanting Canadian made equipment. I hate the fact that all the mid to low stuff is made over there. The quality is crap. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's any good. Thanks for the review, and I would have done the same thing.
Anyway, how's the hip coming along. I hope it's all good . 👍
Thanks for watching, hopefully skate in the next 4 weeks :)
I've worn Vaughn V9, they were too big and gloves sucked. I didn't mind the pads
You didn't watch the actual video did you
I just picked up a PX3 catalyst set and the pads felt alot heavier then my 20.1 set.
Thought they were supposed to be lighter
@@trav4oilers i weighed them both. The L20.1 are lighter. The PX3 were 5.3 lbs at 33-2 I don’t even have a leather strap under the skate or thigh rise
I'd try Eflex 6 and custom graphic!
Yeah custom gear for me in New Zealand is close to if not over NZD$7000 for me. I would love to get some but it's just out of my price range...
You have your answer there my friend!
Hey trav what helmet do you use/ recommend for high level u14
Maybe a profile 950?
Thanks for responding so quickly really shows how dedicated you are. I have been taking a look at the Bauer masks and have been leaning more towards a stalk 960. What do you mean by profile? I have had concussions in the past and right not I have a top of the line sport mask although I don’t have any confidence in it because I don’t think it fits well, and I have gotten concussions with it.
Good move going with warrior since you have a rep. Should make you're life much much easier.
Hopefully it fixes everything :)
What a video personally im not a fan of warrior, but I bet it’s still gonna be a banger
Im excited for them to come in :)
how's rehab going trav?
Skating next month :)
@@trav4oilers good to hear
Wish you put more purple on your g6’s
Maybe if I can get some games in I'll do something more colorful :)
I'll never tell you what to get or not too but I know what I will not do, as you saw in this video. Thanks for watching bro
@@trav4oilers I actually appreciate that you give your honest review on the products you use.
At least ur not in Brian’s. I sent my gloves in 2 years ago to get the palm fixed and fix the inner lining on the glove and they just sat in their warehouse for 4 months, then sent them back with no edits
Brian's is tough
I got Bauer Machs and I love them
awesome bro :)
Can’t wait much longer lol
How come
I hated true when you talked about them buying out that skate company and it was a pain for you to get another pair of them after that. True is only out there to cater to pros from what you talked about in the past. Pete Smith is a god and hes always innovating his pads and isant scared to try something different and new. I love my G5's even though i play roller hockey and i got a custom set i wanted something that i know will last me for a long while.
And as a minor pro goalie, you'd think they would care but not really lol
Personally, I think Warriors are hands down the best gear out there. And you know what makes them so special? It's all thanks to Pete Smith, a true legend in the game. He's the guy who came up with those famous Vaughn Velocity and Model Butterfly pads that every goalie loves, and even created the knee pad stacks we see today. So yeah, when it comes to gear, I'm a firm believer in Warriors or bust.
If Warrior is so great, why does no one in the show use it? 🤔
@@gdijkema because warrior doesn’t want to pay the fees to have their gear advertised in the nhl and instead focus on smaller leagues and minor hockey.
They got good stuff, hopefully they can help me make a few saves!
Warrior should make custom goalie skates
konekt is good ;)
@@trav4oilers Just imagine though those would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Think of how the pads feel being on you :)
Probably not great!
Ngl I love my warrior gear even my chesty!
never trie da warrior chest
@@trav4oilers only thing I don’t like is lower neck cut sits really low and I’m not a fan of the bib
Now me waiting for him to cancel the warrior set
Prob won't cancel it
I think your next calling should be as an equipment rep. You carry clout for the 90K followers on your vlog, but not for playing minor pro.
problem is no company would want my honesty and want me to sell out. Not gonna happen.
@@trav4oilers I see that a bit differently. I would say you wouldnt be in the spotlight outlining the product line. Rather, you would be a production consultant, making their gear more efficient, durable and innovative. Thats your jam
Nice bro
Go back to Warrior
I'm sure you'll like it
That's the plan my friend
Its not just there goalie gear , there retail sticks are trash 🙄
I've never been a fan of the sticks
@Trav had the ax9 broke in 3 games and then the hazardous px and the heal on the stick just Crumbleed over the course of a month
Brian’s is where it’s at, true sucks
Both suck lol
Hi trav
HEY
Velocity v9 gang
WHEEEEEW
Turn down the entitled tone.
I paid $5000 for a full set + gloves. Am I not entitled to get the order I paid for, done correcrtly and mistakes fixed after they promised too?
Burner account moment
Ur telling me u wouldn’t complain if u paid like 5000 bucks for a setup and they got it wrong
Goalies… 🙄 LOL
what?
@@trav4oilers u guys are… unique! Always appreciate when you show up though… my son’s 2 goalies who have both battled injuries this season insist on a cross-ice flying goalie collision to celebrate each win. All us parents just shake our heads… goalies 🤪
Mehh warrior ok
YES SIR
Thoughts on axis 2 vs g6? I’m struggling to pick between the two
I ordered g6 so ;)
The story of all small businesses, once they get bought by a corporation they go to shit.
Sadly this is another case of that
