  • The LRS 645 has a unique design of a curve-shaped, telescopic boom which means unrivalled reach and provides extra space for stacking. Other striking features allow the loading or unloading of containers from/to below ground level without special boom extension, and on top high travel comfort and maximum efficiency are provided by a fully hydrostatic transmission.
The Liebherr reachstacker LRS 645 is designed to lift containers as heavy as 45 metric tons into heights of six containers in the first row. In addition, in 4-high by 3-wide block stacks, the LRS 645 can remove the top container in the second row without first removing the top one in the first row. In 3-high by 3-wide block stacks, such striking reach even applies to the top tie in the third row.

Not to impressed with cab protection. If one of the containers were to come loose by chance, I can guarantee that them thin rails and glass is not going to protect the driver. A safety designed steel cab cage seems to be overlooked !!! I do know one of those containers alone empty weigh over 9,000 lbs. " MY opinion, BAD DESIGN "

Hello Keb Smith , thank you for your opinion and comment. Safety is of utmost importance for Liebherr. The LRS 645 provides a number of security features to avoid such critical situations. This includes a slewing gear limiter which restricts the slewing movement of the spreader to prevent a collision between the spreader/load and the cabin. Additionally, the monitor in the cabin as well as visual signals on the spreader itself indicate the status of the twistlock: locked, unlocked, spreader in position. Moreover, safety appliances of the spreader prevent the twistlocks from unlocking during container lifts. Providing high visibility for the driver is very important as well and leads to increased safety in the terminal/port. The reachstacker cabin ensures great visibility and provides a safe work place for the driver, especially in combination with various LRS safety features.

+Liebherr yeah thats fine but lets say the operator is stacking a 4 high and some How makes error and knocks down a conatiner It would fall right on the cab if u did this with a regular top handler the can would hit the beam that the hook travels up and down on. Make a very strong cage around the cab test it by droping a load right on it

I am a Technician at a rail yard. I work primarily on Fantuzzi. I work on other stackers such as PPM, HYSTER, and I believe they have a few older Taylor mast machines. I can say beyond a doubt that I flat out hate mast machines despite their simple , effective design. PPM just felt like a weak Fantuzzi to me haha. Hyster felt much like the Fantuzzi but the Fantuzzi is what I am most familiar with having done everything to them over the last 15 years. Craning them together etc. I can agree with you that this is the Cadillac , and that visibility increases safety more than having a driver in a square cab hiding behind 2 hoist cylinders. Thing is both machines have moving cabs and both are able to position their cabs out beyond the line of the hoist cylinders. The thing is, why do you ever wanna be out there lifting containers three high? So most operators are quite aware of that. Neither cab I've seen will take a container hit lol our test weight for calibration is 19 000 lbs , we get containers loaded weighing 65 000 lbs, what do you plan on making the cab out of to stop that? Your either behind the hoist cylinders or your not, that's the rules :). Visibility plus your standard red unlocked, green locked, yellow landed lights limiting your hydraulics or even disabling them from working is the safest, If you don't have a red or a green, you can't lift simple, if those PnP proximity sensors do not see what they need to see on all four end beams then you get no light. No yellow landed light and you don't even get to use twistlocks. You win :) I do wonder though honestly, how does your lifting capacity compare to say a Fantuzzi Rs 50? Thanks

Excuse the late reply, Jeff Walsh . We'd like to thank you for your feedback which we forwarded to our product managers at the Liebherr Maritime division. Regarding the lifting capacities we can state that the LRS 645 features the following: 1. row: 45 t / 2. row: 34 t / 3. row: 19,5 t. Best regards and thank you once again.

wow... can that curved boom be assembled on an excavator with a bucket on the end.. or as one of the arm sections.
i would think that a test on the dual front tires to see if the outer tire of the duals could be mounted on a bearing assembly around the drive hub.. for tight turns it might reduce tire wear and pavement wear also.. just for a test to see the reduction in power needed for tight fully loaded turns.. some kind of torque release system would need to be designed in.. since it is a hydrostatic.. perhaps a push rod thru the center of the axle shaft like a VW golf transmission input shaft. could also be done with hydraulics if the outer wheels that are free turning on the hub turn out to be an advantage.. really throws a curve on the competition you might say..

Huge issue .... the driver cab needs better reinforcement/protection from falling containers. Am wondering if this device would even pass OSHA requirements for use in the United States, given what seems like an obvious defect.

you need to take into account how many tons stackers are working with and surrounding they work in, the cab that could take impact from empty container from the top or full container 3th would not have much of a view.
now as former operator of kalmar, valmet and Linde stacker that have same style of cab, but have two jacks that give little more protec then single jack of the Liebherr I would not be bother with this cab design.
now the Linde c4531 is super good stacker, but from the look of Liebherr the linde has only the better joystick and center line cab with little more protec and some area they are equal, but I would take the Liebherr over Linde because of curve boom better capability of rotating container and 3 row lift capability is more.

Having a container dangle above the cab would be user error. How do you propose protecting the cab effectively from a falling container. Might as well wear a helmet and safety glasses for protection.

Things like "is offering" just at the end of film - it isn't English - should be simply "offers". This film is full of incorrect use of present continuous tense; which is rather common grammatical error made by Germans and natives of Nordic countries. I feel rather sorry for the narrator who appears to be a native English speaker, when he has to read a script that is badly translated. Liebherr should be able to manage better; haven't you go any native language speakers in your marketing department?
PS. Before anyone has go at me over foreign languages, I know one fluently, two pretty well and can get by in a couple more.

+Liebherr Thanks for taking my comment positively. Had the film been presented by a marketing manager speaking extemporaneously, that would have been a different matter entirely. This, however, appeared to be a script that could have been vetted in advance.

      +johnevans7 In a word, no. Don't you?
There's a context to this. Liebherr have responded to previous comments like this. It's an international company with dozens of native English speakers, so there's no excuse for getting such a simple thing wrong. It's just laziness or arrogance.
