Wow! This is my favorite track, if that isn’t already obvious! The part at 1:07 really got me emotional. I remember playing this on the 3DS, making it ironic why this is my favorite track. I grew up with MK7, however I never touched this track, until a few years ago I wanted to see what Rainbow Road is like in that game. The result was enough to make it my favorite track, doubting it would ever come to MK8!
WOAH, this is so good! What a beautiful rendition of an underrated gem. This is one of my favorite Rainbow Road themes, and the instrumentation and arrangement here are just magical, really - it's everything a person could want in a remix of the theme! The different sound styles make it feel like you're going through different parts of the course, and the remix has such a feeling of completeness to it. From the bit-crushed intro, to the bright and shiny main section, to the delicate and celestial segment that references the MK64 theme, this remix really has everything! When the remix kicks into full gear at 0:10, it really just got my heart racing and put a big smile on my face, and the segment at 1:07 brought such a calming and pleasant sensation. 😊 But I think my single favorite part is at 1:33, when the instrumentation comes back in full-force with that descending arpeggio leading into it. It's such a sudden and powerful surge of energy, and I legit got chills when listening to it the first time. The way you described the bass - "galloping" - is a perfect term for what it does throughout much of the song - it has this awesome, unrelenting drive that keeps things moving from start to finish. And wow, the drums here are nothing short of spectacular, with a great snare sample, catchy rhythms, and lots of nice drum fills and mix-ups. Amazing transitional technique, too, the way you segued between so many different-sounding sections. As good as the instrumentation is, I think what really makes this remix so special for me is the arrangement. I love the way you've implemented so many variations, making minor tweaks to the melody here and there so it still sounds like the iconic original, but with some interesting twists and unexpected changes in notes and rhythms. There were several instances when I raised an eyebrow while listening and thought, "ooh, that was nice!", like the part at 1:37 where is climbs up to that high note, or at 2:25 where the melody glissandos downward. And that original ending you wrote is just fantastic! When it came in at around 3:40, I knew right away that it was the section you mentioned in the description, and it felt so in-theme with the style of the original that a person could listen and easily think that it was an extension of the OST version! And wow, the way the music ascends higher and higher at 4:06 is so powerful and moving - it's the perfect ending to such a colorful and exciting remix. This is without a doubt my favorite remix of yours. Honestly, I've been listening to it just about every day since you uploaded it, and I really can't get enough of it. Not going to lie, I definitely teared up a bit the first time I listened, and even now this really hits deep for me. Between the wonderful music and stunning visuals, this is just a masterpiece of a production. Thank you for sharing this, MidiMusic! 💛
Thanks for this great comment. I'm so happy that you liked it and listened to it so carefully. You found all the intentions that I tried to bring there, well done. Thanks again my friend.
I also remixed the end credits theme from Mario Kart 64 which has some similarities (it's an early work by Kenta Nagata on the franchise). th-cam.com/video/dbmEpC-1atk/w-d-xo.html
