Same man...im playing branded from a year more or less and its a Little bit sad that our strongest wincon Is Always a lock that cut off my opponent enterily..but you know It Is what It Is..BUT AT THE SAME TIME..when i think about labyrinth that can play skill drain, rivarly, limit summon ecc i defenitely feel Better about puppet lock
There is no deck right now that can play throught a full branded Board without puppet (with expulsion). Quem, (if u want beast), triple Jade banish, dracostapelia, bird is too much for any engine. If your stuff get's interruptet... most of the time you won't go for the puppet lock anyways. Without the expulsion... ad lib with in red, or banishment should be a good setup. Branded needs a way to get that dead Jade off the field. This play loses to a bystial too, but there are special summon albaz + jade banish as interrupts. Without expulsion there is a big weakness against nib and evenly and even dark ruler. That is the much bigger problem than the missing puppet
Fuck that gimmick lock. I refuse to play it too. Plus it isn’t needed. But it isn’t worse than decks that play skill drain. Skill Drain needs to be banned and stay banned
One thing worth noting is that even if gimmick puppet gets bystialed in the end phase... You still have follow up, the mercourier negate and a special summon negate - which isn't nesscarily much worse then the other 2 card combos you might otherwise go for.
You can also end on Granguinol + Mirrojade with Branded Lost and Branded in Red. Then you need an Albaz in gy to target with Red and then fuse with Guinol to make Sanctifier and proceed to puppet lock + cartesia while adding whatever from lost. If you also manage to end on quem too you also have 2 banishes from mirrojade (fuse him with cartesia and summon back with quem for 2nd if needed which will be unecessary if you lock them)
Thanks Galzo for this combo :) What I did post ban is replacing Expulsion by Banishment (seriously, this card is ridiculously good). As for the lock combo basically I’m doing the same combo as before that end on Mirrorjade + Guignol + quem + Lubellion + Lost but instead of tutoring expulsion with Albion I’m taking in red in hand to activate it in the end phase, targeting one Albaz in grave (it’s easy to put one now with three in the deck) and fusing it with quem to make sanctifire on my turn. However it’s a lot harder to have mercourrier in hand with this combo to protect from Belle / crow, I need to work on this

if you search albaz first you can make a mirrorjade with cartesia on opponents turn and when you do you can search mercourier so basically you can add a mirrorjade to that.
I first tested the build without puppet, then with puppet. I was always a firm believer that crossout was the way to go, but I implore you to try using Nadir Servant with Dogmatika Maximus. Even if they ash branded fusion, I can still set up the puppet lock on their turn with Maximus. My main nadir servant line is to send Garura to search Maximus, get the free garura draw. Then banish garura for Maximus. Then send Albion and Lulu/titaniklad with Maximus. End phase get quem to pitch Albaz and set branded in red off of Albion. Also Maximus is a light spellcaster for sanctifire. All of that off of one nadir servant. All you need to puppet lock is access to Cartesia. As you try it, you’ll see how easy it is. At the least you have access to albaz and chimera on their turn. It’s worth trying.
@@itchigo3245 I would say the mirror is the only matchup I would be honestly worried about with Maximus. That’s why, for the new format, I’m going to run crossout in the side. Crossout is devastating in the mirror. Played a mirror the other day where I used cross out on his albaz, branded fusion, and branded in red. But for anyone else, if we go first it doesn’t matter what they send, we still puppet lock them.
What about in general playing droplet in a branded deck? I also thought maybe arkbrave & felgrand would be fun tech options in branded too, I guess they can synergize decently 🤔
A bit disingenuous to say, “It’s just as strong. You only lose to Called By which is at 1.” Droll and Ash are at three and are still format staples. Crossout is at three as well which is important in the mirror seeing how Crossout is being maxed in Branded. Ghost Belle isn’t popular but still hits Albion’s fusion effect. Bystials are in some side decks to counter Branded as well and still somewhat splashed in decks. Shifter also completely turns off the lock. You’re putting in a lot of work to be degenerate. This kind of play is how decks get hit hard. TCG Branded might end up like OCG Branded at this rate. Thanks for using your platform with a since of dignity.
Oh also you know nib stops this combo lol. Its not a complete blow out, you still have lulu access and the albion set through it, but its a lot more fragile.

personally I feel like we should move away from the gimmick puppet, as it's more fun to use sanctifire as a fusing mechanism. I love being able to reborn an albion and an albaz to make a mirrorjade and then trigger that albions effect in end phase again
Expulsion was a bigger problem than most people realize. Sanctifire helped extend on expulsion in case they had a way to interact with the sanctifire targets. Yes this strategy can prevent you from losing a target to a bystial, but it does nothing against d.d. crow.
if i summon lubellion searing while cartesia is on the field, and I use lubellion searing as chain link 1 and cartesia as chain link 2, will the sequence then be: chain link 2 cartesia resolves and fuses with lubellion to make granguignol chain link 1 lubellion shuffles albaz + granguignol to make albion sanctifier then seperate chain: granguignol sends gimmick puppet even after being shuffled back via lubellion searing (as its stated "if this card is fusion summoned, You can send 1 Level 6 or higher LIGHT or DARK monster from your Deck or Extra Deck to the GY. ). would this be how it works since granguignol has an "if" statement and therefore cannot miss timing?
If this is the combo, then maybe bumping Quem to 2 for consistency isn't a bad idea. Still skeptical? Then side board an extra Quem for the times you know for a fact that you are going first. Remember, this is a two card combo out of a 5 card hand. There may be more interruptions from the left over "gas" that could lead to very interesting interactions with your opponent. Keep cooking Galzo.
I dont think that the access to banished cards was the last nail in the coffin ... i think it was more of an issue that it could use generic targets and was not restricted to the branded/albaz archetype. Since this is what ultimately gave birth to locks in the first place.
Ra's disciple's lock is only active so long as its on the board, whereas gimmick puppet affects the player for the duration of the turn. If your opponent can out their disciple, they can play the game whereas even if they can out the puppet, its already applied to the player if that makes sense
As someone who does this evil combo. Jinzo is not worth it in main. Going blind you should just go for the puppet, if your opponent turns out to be Labyrinth then you can side it in game 2
Why not having merc on hand and setting the blazing king trap to negate the called by the grave. You still lose to double removal (bystial/dd crow/belle) tho
Making Sanctifire will be mandatory post side going 1st because now without expulsion we are again very vulnerable to evenly matched and people will side it a lot
I’m definitely in the minority of branded players that think “expulsion lock” is okay. It’s degenerate and leaves a bad taste for the archetype itself. If you want to use it to win, then go for it, even if you can only use sanctifire to achieve that and its not skilled based at all. If you cant win with anything but expulsion or sanctifire, then either branded just isn’t as good as we think it is, or the player Isn’t good enough to extrapolate on its potential.
Its kinda like mystic mine was back in the day, there's a fair amount of counter play but its just toxic. Expulsion set ups almost always lost to a rivarly as well, it felt wrong in a lot of cases since mirror jade branded in red just does more overall.
You also lose to Droplet that may become more prominent next format given the limit of Ariseheart. If you manage to get an Aluber or an Albaz in the GY the olay would be to set Branded in Red instead of retribution and in the draw phase activate it targetting whatever you can. Your opponent can either let it resolve and you activate Albion in the next chain or Droplet prehentively and you secure yourself a Dragostapelia or a Masquerade that surpassed Droplet

you say loses to call by the grave, but if my some miracle your BF has resolved cause they didn't have Ash, set the crossout & then when they called by you, slap that bad boy down. So even that can be countered by something already in most decks

Not true to say whoever locks each other out playing wins the game unless the only way *you specifically* can win is through blocking your opponent out of playing the game, then that statement holds true and you might as well play yugioh by yourself, because there’s no point in playing against an opponent who can’t play the game. Also Spright consistently tops and does not put up any offensively terrible floodgates or anything like that. The best line for kashtira to take, and the lines most players took, was Ariseheart in 4 summons.

As a Branded player, I think it's unfair that people blame Branded cards for being able to pull out certain shenanigans. Yes they are broken, and yes they can do so much more then simply lock your opponent. But it's not fair that Konami would hit cards like Albion or even God forbid, Branded fusion in the TCG just for that, especially when there are cards out there that can do just about the same thing in different archetypes anyway. I mean, it's not like those cards are completely broken anyway since one hand trap can break apart the whole combo from even going through in the first place. So it really just comes down to skill, adaptability and yes, even luck- which in my humble opinion is how YGO as a game is properly designed to be played anyway.
Can you people in the comments stop whining about the gimmick puppet lock. The goal of the game is to win even if it is degenerate and im not even a branded player. Just shut up and play the game.
A maybe less optimal but imo more fun way to play is with a tearlament engine with king of the swamp to help you end on boards like mirrorjade, grapha, set branded in red w merqourier

Your deck is a lot more consistent without puppet because you're not running the bricks of puppet anymore

Also they banned Scythe to stop the expulsion lock and it didn’t work so you can see why they had to ban expulsion.

Disciple’s effect lasts much longer than Nightmares, unless I’m missing something?

Braindead players in a nutshell, luckly branded fusion gets limited to 1 because of this.
Nib will hurt this board unless you you set branded banishment with albion.
Puppet lock isn't the best strategy anymore since branded control strategy is better now.

@@maticus5640 They’ll hopefully ban sanctifire before the ban puppet. As another archetype actually uses that card for non-degen things and you branded players can’t be trusted with anything.

As a Branded player, I think it's unfair that people blame Branded cards for being able to pull out certain shenanigans. Yes they are broken, and yes they can do so much more then simply lock your opponent. But it's not fair that Konami would hit cards like Albion or even God forbid, Branded fusion in the TCG just for that, especially when there are cards out there that can do just about the same thing in different archetypes anyway.
I mean, it's not like those cards are completely broken anyway since one hand trap can break apart the whole combo from even going through in the first place. So it really just comes down to skill, adaptability and yes, even luck- which in my humble opinion is how YGO as a game is properly designed to be played anyway.

A maybe less optimal but imo more fun way to play is with a tearlament engine with king of the swamp to help you end on boards like mirrorjade, grapha, set branded in red w merqourier
