    You've got a few good ideas there Modern Explorer!
    Love the solar system as it allows you to power a refrigerator/freezer. And your hot water heater is a new one for me to see as well.
    I did learn on another build how the 4-door XJ front seats don't tilt forward and am aware (obviously) the 2-door seats do. But you worked around that, so good on you.
    I've heard one can get larger gas tanks for these XJ's and have seen one crafty fella build his own. Upwards of 30 gallons from what I understand. I like the idea of well more capacity so as not to have range anxiety when traveling remotely. ....and the reduced annoyance of skipping gas stations in normal use.
    This is the first video of yours I've seen so will see what else you have. :-)

    Nice video. Thank you SO much for narrating it with your own voice and not one of those computer-generated voices! I have a 1998 Cherokee (same Chili Pepper Red color) and though I'm not going to be modifying it as you have, I think I will modify the front passenger seat with the hardware from a two door the way you did. There have been several times when being able to fold the seat forward would have come in very handy for me.

    Rather than the Little Buddy heater,may I suggest the Coleman Black Cat ( discontinued but Ebay has them ) . Uses less propane , can be turned down to a lower setting. I have both . The Little Buddy uses a full pound of propane per night while the Black Cat uses less than half.

      Thank you! Its always great to glamp up a rig a little bit for added convenience! The fridge/freezer has made a huge difference while camping or traveling. The solar and deep cycle battery guarantee I have power and I don't have to worry about a power drain on the main engine battery.

    I have watched countless xj videos. A lot of great designs. This one has the cooler and heater that im looking for. Now I'm wondering if I should use aluminum instead of steel for the weight.

    • @ModernExplorer
      @ModernExplorer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching the video. I'm glad you got something out of it. I've changed a few things since then. I now have a diesel heater in beded where the back side window used to be for winter camping. I plan to develop a heat exchange unit to use the diesel heaters heat to warm the water for showers and such. Should be way more efficient and consume way less gas.

    Hey, That's a nice Jeep. (from the Terminator two)
    I'm 6ft5 and need to cut out the roof and make the back to slide out 3 to 4ft. And remake a new rear door.
    I like the hot water heater and the hose's. Thanks for sharing

    • @ModernExplorer
      @ModernExplorer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!
      You can get a lot more room by switching out the bracket that controls how far the front seats can lean forward by replacing it from a 2 door XJ. In fact you would probably be able to get all the room you need with that modification that just takes screwing in 4 bolts. A quick fix while you work on your more ambitious projects. I have been thinking about cutting out the roof as well and even considering widening it by about half a foot on each side. That would give a lot more room and still allow it to be an effective off road vehicle. However id have to figure out a good roll cage design to keep the integrity of the unibody.

      Thanks for watching! Yea im glad the two door bracket was so easy to install onto the 4 door seats! Saved a lot of time and energy.

    Nice! Im in a similar stage with my westfalia XJ. How well do you feel the solar does as compared to power only from the alternator?

    • @ModernExplorer
      @ModernExplorer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Awesome set up man! How has the Westfalia top been working as far as in wet weather or insulating from the heat or cold?
      The solar works great during the day and on most nights, however I am going to be adding power from the alternator as well during those cloudy days or warm nights when the fridge drains the battery. I even upgraded to the largest yellow top Optima that has and sometimes it needs just a little bit more juice.

    💕 Hi ! I just stumbled upon your channel & subscribed. The first video I watched was your "Colorado Bigfoot Documentary - Facing Sasquatch". I've been zipping through bigfoot shows for several years & have no clue why I've never come across your channel ! The only key word I typed into search was Bigfoot !! LOL ! Which is hilarious because that must've been the hundredth time I did that ! I mean, had you been new to TH-cam it'd make sense, but I see you've been around a couple of years at least, so...? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Ha !
    Anyway, I haven't found your name anywhere so far. Do you have one that isn't top secret ?? 😂
    And thank you for your research & videos ! I'm enjoying them ! As long as you don't start saying they came out of a UFO, or are zipping in and out from another dimension..... I'll stick with you ! 👍🏼😉

      I don't think government as a whole is aware, im sure perhaps certain departments and industry are aware but it's just too much of a hassle or money will be lost to acknowledge it. When I was stationed in 29 Palms they would close entire ranges for hours or days because a tortoise was passing through. Imagine the paperwork and delay if there would be a band of sasquatch in the area?

    No winch! Are you serious?

    • @ModernExplorer
      @ModernExplorer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know there was a time when I thought I needed one, but I also have not had lockers till recently ether and was able to do all the trails I was told required lockers and a winch. This taught me a good lesson - picking the right lines will always be far superior than equipment. What you lack in mod and gear you have to make up in skill and planning.
