  • Kailash Parvat : A Sacred Mystery
Mount Kailash, standing at 21,837 feet in Tibet, remains one of the world's most mysterious and sacred peaks. Revered across Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, this majestic mountain has never been conquered, unlike many taller peaks such as Everest. But why has no one ever reached its summit despite numerous attempts?
For Hindus, Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as described in the Shiv Purana. Similarly, Jains hold Kailash as ‘Ashtapad,’ where their first Tirthankara, Rishabh Dev, attained salvation. Tibetan Buddhists also revere it as a place where an avatar of Lord Buddha achieved Nirvana.
Numerous mountaineers, including legendary climbers, have tried to scale Kailash but have faced mysterious challenges. Reports include sudden disorientation, drastic weather changes, and even rapid aging, as seen in the case of Siberian climbers who reportedly aged by decades and died soon after their attempt. These unexplained phenomena have led to the belief that some divine force prevents humans from conquering the sacred peak. British mountaineer Hugh Ruttledge, after extensive study in the 1920s, concluded it was impossible to climb. Even Reinhold Messner, the first to climb Everest without oxygen, refused to attempt Kailash, stating that conquering the mountain would mean "conquering something in people's souls."
The Tibetan monk Milarepa, who is said to have successfully climbed Kailash, returned with a warning-Mount Kailash is a sacred realm guarded by powerful deities, and humans should not disturb its peace.
Today, the Chinese government has banned climbing Mount Kailash, preserving its sanctity. Pilgrims from all over the world continue to visit for the sacred circumambulation, or 'Kora,' around its base, seeking divine blessings rather than the glory of conquest.

The mysterious Mt Kailash. Most information already known, though some added to knowledge. This subject should have contained interviews of some sages who have been living in upper Himalayas.
