      I was about to post the exact same thing. I was also 10 years old and my dad picked me up early from school. My dad has since passed away and this is easily the greatest, most vivid memory I have of him. I felt so special getting out of school early to go to a baseball game. Before Mike Scott got the last out he turned to me and said you’ll never see this happen again in baseball and so far he has been right.

    So glad the Astros are where they are now, but such a big shame that a World Series was never played at the Astrodome.

      I was just wondering if it was considered the 8th Wonder of the World then how come the Astrodome never got awarded a Super Bowl? They gave one to Houston in Reliant Stadium just a few years after the Astrodome was done.

Umpires had nothing to do with choking a three run lead away only needing 3 outs to get to game 7. That game is the 1 game in Houston sports history that compares to the Oilers choking a 35-3 lead away.

    This is probably the most incredible moment in Astros history. It was a real shame that Gene Elston got fired in the off-season because of this game. The owner wanted him to jump up and down and scream like a fan, but he was smart enough to let the moment carry itself.

    Just read somewhere that Gene Elston was “let go” after this game “for his lack-luster calling of it”
    This change ushered in Milo Hamilton as the lead astros announcer as he was #2 to Gene at the time.

    I was a kid in 1986, so I remember this game, it's the crowd details that stand out to me. Look how 70% of the people are dressed, dress shirt, ties and slacks. I'm figuring most people went straight after work to this game, hence why so many people are wearing dress shirts and ties for a damn baseball game. I get it for basketball, but baseball? Seems like a nutty thing to do today, even if you're leaving the office. It's crazy because people still go straight after work to an evening ball game today in 2021, but people either change clothes or office formal wear isn't as strict as it was in the 80s. I don't get why people didn't just change clothes in the office before leaving for the stadium? That's what most people do today. I think this was more Houston's conservative culture back then, because if you look at videos from the 1970s and early 80s of other ball parks in America, you see very scantly clad people and many men without even any shirts. But Houston in 1986, formal wear for a ball game. LOL, "Hey Edna, let's go to that baseball game, you got my tie ready?" Kids today must look at this game like how I looked at ball games from 1955 or 1965.

    • @jasondesselle5143
      @jasondesselle5143 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was an afternoon game. That explains the suit and ties. I was there. My dad took me out of school early for it. Greatest afternoon of my childhood.

    • @John-ct9zs
      @John-ct9zs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasondesselle5143 yeah but afternoon games today don't have 60-70% in suits and ties. It's the cultural differences in attending a sports game, at least in Houston that I am mentioning from the 80s to the 2023. I used to laugh at people going to ball games in the 1950s, but then I look at the 80s and think, dang we weren't all that ahead of those people watching Mickey Mantle in their fedora and suit/tie.
