We mixed things up this week and decided to show off A bit of 4x4 history by showing it's roots in the military. Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth and thank you everyone who served to defend our nation and commonwealth.
Hi again, I thought / considered why I should be explaining to all the civilian Ferret owners exactly what my experience is with the wonderful, very able and capable Ferrets, is, (what is my qualification) ? Well how does 11 Years in the Royal Armoured Corps in the UK stack up ? In my regiment, 2 chaps were killed (GRIMLY) BY sittings on the rear hatch of the Turret while driving !! I myself, as Commander, have survived the Ferret leaving the road (not fully understood ) how or why it happened , it just did, the vehicle bouncing, end over end, side over side twice, reported by the crew of the Landrover we were following - thanks to (Norrie RSDG and Sax my own regiment 1976). My driver broke the rim of the steering wheel off the spokes, his right leg being impaled by one of the spokes ! With the Ferret upside down, it took me 4 attempts to release the locking pins of the escape hatch, before I could operate the release mechanism of the Spare Wheel release latch / mechanism , all whilst my driver was protesting his injuries that required him to be CASAVAC'ed away by Helicopter. OWNERS DONT ALLOW ANYONE (FRIENDS OR FAMILY) TO SIT ON THE REAR HATCH OF THE TURRET WHILE THE FERRET IS DRIVING - THE TURRET ROTATION MUST ALSO BE LOCKED !! THE FERRET BATTERIES MUST BE ABSOLUTELY SECURE IN THEIR POSITIONS, IN THE HULL !!!
just watched this - terrifying that they would let them sit on the turret hatch instead of on the seat inside and if they rolled it they would not look pretty when 4tonn of ferret squashed them
I have to admit, I'd like to have one of these, no farm to drive it around on though. I'm pretty sure that's where a lot of them went over the years. Onto farms. There use to be one of these out the front of a local Army base near where I live in W.A. It was a gate guard. I think it's now in the army museum down in Fremantle.
Be warned, throwing them around like that they are prone to roll over as I nearly found out to my cost whilst driving one whilst serving in Northern Ireland, they need to be driven with respect as they bite, too top heavy . Always stay in the turret not standing up .
Dear sir. There is a chineese car with tha name baic bj40. And there is a lots of video showing its capabilities! But i think those r fake! And i trust you. Can u test this car please!
Sitting on the turret's back flap while moving cross country is not a good idea, people have died when the ferret has rolled over and crushed them. You might want to look 'warry' and 'hard' but it's the epitome of stupid!
well, thank you for your input. In no way did we want to look 'warry' or 'hard', why would people want that? We were simply having some fun in a controlled environment with a highly experienced, skilled and trusted driver. Thank you for stopping in for a look!
@@4WDTVYou've got multiple skilled, experienced drivers commenting here that it's a stupid idea, and you're still defending it rather than admit it may have been a mistake?
Sure, that's what opinions are all about. QWe also had many highly experienced off roaders and a number of people experienced with these types of vehicles who were there with us. Our assessment was that what we did was safe but we appreciate every one's copncerns 😁@@dy7318

Lucky to drive one in the mid 1970's while in the British Army, loved the pre-select box. Great to see it again. Thanks, have fun.
Thank you for stopping by, it's an awesome vehicle. Thank you for your service!

Awesome Tom, can't wait to take a spin next time I'm up your way!
I have decent mark 2, they go alright for a 6cyl, my one only really scoots around on our many back dirt roads in south aussie,.
great to hear, we enjoyed rising in this one.

Tanks have tracks. This is a scout car with run flat rubber tires
yes correct, it was a generalisation 😁

heaps cool ! 🏞️😎🛻🤙📹
The Ferret is cool but what happened to all the Aus Leopard 1s?.
10x better than a defender
❤
