Imagine being me never having used normal air roll just directional air roll since it was introduced and now tons of people want tutorials for that while I have to learn the concept of air roll from 0 again.
After years of playing, I’m starting to give them more of a go, and there’s one thing everyone misses out when they are doing a tutorial. Maybe because to the pros it’s common knowledge, but this subtle “mechanic” will help with power shots too. So say it’s just a simple exercise of the ball is floating towards mid field in the air and you go up to meet the ball, the moment just before contact with the ball, and I mean like a split second before, push up on the analog stick, so your car nods the ball, like someone would if they were heading a ball in football, for some reason this tiny movement settles the car after impact with the ball, nullifying any energy exerted on the car from the ball, so your car effectively doesn’t move/rotate in the air, this helps with them controlling your car and it’s helped me ever since
I am actually trying to learn this after reaching champ 3 div 4, i encountered this issue right off the bat, didn't know how to google that precisely, looked up double tap tutorial, found this gem, 8/8 gr8 comment m8
@@fudmucker1000 that's what I do, i air roll until the wheels face me, and push up on the analog stick and not only does it keep the car from moving after impact, it gives you great control on ball aim
Hey Squishy, I am super grateful that you take time out of your day to make a tutorial and teach us anything! I remember you saying how much you would have appreciated it if you had support like this when you were growing as a player!
Honestly the best part of this explanation that explains most people’s mistake (including nine) is the continued boost after the touch on the ball. Pausing boost actually does allow a better read on the ball and I’ll try as soon as I can.
This is my go to training pack every time I get on RL. I’ve been doing this and practicing double taps for about a year now and you’re right. Never accounted for the spin.
Very good video. I am currently champ rank and trying to advance to GC. The tip explaining that making contact on the left side of the ball will cause the ball to come off the wall to the right was extremely helpful. It makes sense but is something I haven’t thought about.
one thing that helps a lot as well that squishy is doing in this video but didnt mention is let the part of your car that hits the ball "bounce" or naturally turn whichever direction it wants to turn after hitting the ball and follow through with that momentum
Squishy: “This is a slow aerial... if I do this it’s a lot harder to hit a double tap” Me: okay he won’t hit this next one. Squishy: proceeds to hit a crazy angle like it’s nothing
This video is a game changer, I’m a C3 and I miss almost every double tap by the smallest margin. I’m either above it, too close to the backboard, or too far left and right. I almost guarantee every mistake I make is not doing something you said here. Great vid, hope I can go hit some bangers
Oh my god, paying attention to the spin of the ball was an eyeopener to me. I was always expecting the ball to go a certain direction, but everytime I thought I got the hang of it I overshot, because I didn't realize I gave the ball a spin in the opposite direction so it wouldn't bounce as far out. Squishy the GOAT!!
Just watched the intro where Squishy says a lot of you struggle reading the backboard. That's completely normal, but you have to put in practice. LOTS of practice. I'm sure ha already said that, but I'm putting it here for you guys. I started practicing them when I was Gold, and although I still miss them a lot of the time, it's so much easier reading the backboard. If you want to learn something, PRACTICE it as much as you can. Go into free play or packs for hours, put on music or a podcast, just enjoy it & make sure you put in the effort before complaining about not being able to do it. That's all Rocket League is. Practice.
Bro. I've trying to hit double this whole f time and all I needed to hear was "do not boost a second before u hit the ball" and to separate from the ball. Thank you very much and you a good coach too
I’ve been playing since 2016 and I never knew about the spin that affects the bounce. Thank you because I have always been terrible at reading the wall.
Another great vid man. One thing I still can't figure out though for myself is why/when/how to aerial spin effectively. I apologize if you've already explained it previously
One thing you don't mention that I know a lot of lower ranks struggle with, is airroll. Air rolling for a double tap is huge, but difficult to grasp when you're first learning.
Leth I've got a format suggestion: games with aims or something like that You play three games in wich you have to complete some tasks, like f.e. win all three, hit 3 ceiling shots, 1 musty, win one game with 4 goals deficit, 3 passes goal or things like that Just an hint, in case you like the idea Love your content
Hey Squishy congratulations on your epic performance against SSG in RLCS last week. Sorry that you couldn't beat Rogue - perhaps next time. I was totally voting for you guys!
Thank you for making this video I’m currently diamond 3 learning double touches and using air roll to control the ball and my car better this has so much insight learning from a pro thank you 💜
i think it missed something important, it's how you hit the ball to set up the double tap, like the quick adjustement, you press forward every time you are about to hit the ball. This not only launch the ball at a speed that you control, it makes you car not going around like crazy because of the "inertia" therefore you can adjust to the backboard read way faster than not doing this. but it was good i learned a lot !
PLEASE do a tutorial on flip control! Especially for the ones with an awkward setup off the wall. You are the best I've seen with those it might be a higher level mechanic but in faster lobbies I don't have the time to get a decent setup so I need that flip control tutorial please
squishy: shows a slow aerial and how hard it is to double tap when slow aerialing also squishy: scores a corner read double when deliberately messing it up
