Enough is enough. It's incorrect to identify Puertorricans in the Island as Democrats just because Latin voters in the states identify themselves as Democrats. We are not the same because of our different background.

Puerto Rico became an “unincorporated territory”; such statuses was given to territories that were not considered potential states.
I don’t have an issue with Puerto Rico becoming a state. It’s currently a territory and would only need to follow the protocol to become a state. Washington DC on the other hand is another story as it’s designed to be a federal district, not a state. If you’re going to just make the capitol buildings under federal control as some have suggested, then the rest of DC needs to be returned to Maryland where it originated.
States are always added in twos, to maintain the political balance of the US of A. If PR will join the Union, another state of opposite political leanings must be added alongside it.

For Puerto Ricans they have the best possible situation, they don’t pay individual federal income taxes which is currently up to 37% of income yet per person they receive the most government assistance back from social security and disability per person. In return they can’t vote for president. I would say most Americans would rather pay no income tax than vote for president. Easy choice. The war of independence was because there was taxation without representation. In Puerto Rico they have No taxation and therefore no representation. A better question should be is do Puerto Ricans want to pay US taxes, vote for president, or 3. Become there own country without US involvement.
