whooooo, that last chorus when Brent really unloaded was amazing. You could tell he was being rather cautious through the song so he wouldn't offend Kenny, but that ending was AMAZING! Yet another incredible job by the members of Shinedown. *gives a big round of applause to them*
Kenny doesn't actually sing it. He got another guy named Owen from his band to actually do the vocal.
I know man I wish he would let it rip sooner, definitely held back outta respect
He fucking missed that note huge. My dog yelped.
Brent can sing any genre of music. I absolutely love his voice and music
I love his voice and style, but this was incredibly boring to listen to.
He could sing the phone book and it would be awesome!
Damn, that's a good cover
Same with Adam Gontier!
@TheHyde8875 Listen to the live version at a Smith & Myers show with Kenny, Brent does those vocals all through the song definitely not boring!!
Big fan of Brent Smith...his voice is awesome. He can sing any song well and that's very rare.
Worrd• 💙🖤💙🖤
Love U Shinedown!!💙 thanx 4 your support; the Music❤️🔥
What a great collaboration. 👍 love shinedown and Kenny Wayne. ❤️ 🎶 🎵
Kenny is such a cool dude. Both of my folks got a KWS club membership back when he was starting out and really small, which was a one time fee and you could meet with him backstage whenever he was playing. Now that he's huge, he still honors it and I got to meet him. It is really awesome that even though he got really big, if you still have that 3x5 laminated beat up membership card from when he just started, he will meet with you backstage and just chill with you and talk about life.
Sounds like a real down to earth kinda cat. Lots of guys, they get famous, and become pricks (not just musicians, a lot of folk). Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
I have a couple of comments... KWS never got really big, and that is a good thing. I also saw him in small clubs back in the 90's... and I see him play small clubs now and then. Always a great show. Great music from a great guitarist... but I have to give plenty of cred to Noah - he is a superior vocalist and compliments Kenny so well. They have chemistry and it show.
My main point is that KWS never really got that big... and I like that because I can see and hear great music in a small venue. I have seen over 100 huge arena filled rock concerts from all of the greats... some of them spectacular and many of them not so much. Small venues with great musicians are where it is at.
bout 20 years ago my dad was at a bar with this girl in illinois and kenny was there and he came up and hit on my dads girlfriend she was like no im with him and he kept coming on to her and my dad was like hey man back off shes with me(respectfully), but he hit on her again and my dad grabbed him by the neck and shoved him about 20 feet back and then almost got in a fight with his security guards, so i love brent smith and his version of this song but just that one story about kenny and i dont like him anymore because that was super disrespectful
That's Fuckin Badass !!
That's fuckin awesome
I love the power and control that Mr Smith has with his voice. It enables him to cross into any genre of music and make it uniquely his own.
When brent let's rip at the end, kennys like........o yeah!
ridler237 brys?...?.?..?..on .
When the original writer of the song makes that face when you make his music sound so good!
The smoothest vocals.. I've loved Brent's voice for many years 😍 this song is now one of my favorites.
What a great, strong voice! He jus blows me away with every song.
No one else could have ever done it as great
dammnn!!! nobody can deny that mans voice!!!
He’s amazingly good
He's got a great voice. Like it when he cranks it up at the end.
OH YEAH...IM READY !!!
Love it and love Kenny Wayne Shepherd's smile at 4:50. Great cover!
King Midas everything he touches turns to gold
Not his best but alot of the other acoustic sessions are phenomenal
I'm always impressed with Brent Smith's vocal range!
Monica from Metter Ga.... I love you guys and then Add the man himself .... Mister Kenny Wayne Shepherd!!! Hellz Yeah !!!

I remember when KWS first came out with this song .. decades ago!! And Shinedown been around awhile now too! My kids thought they discovered NEW bands ... mama been listening since they were little .. must rubbed off on em ... great music!!
Hells yes, gentlemen!
My almost two year old loves this. Yep Im raising him right. KWS is amazing and dude kills the vocals
Amazing. Goose bumps. Love it.
Awesome version of such a very underrated song IMO. Keep the great covers coming!!
totally agree!
Shinedown awesome do they do anything that’s not great
Under Rated.....My Arse it is...this song has always been given its due for its riff and great vocals
awesome trio
This is now my fav of the album. At first it was She Talks To Angels... But the more I listen to the album, this is it. Awesome.
I love she talks to angles
There is a live version at a Smith and Myers show w Kenny Wayne Sheppard and he doesn't hold back constantly soulful vocals like at the end. Amazing performance live its on TH-cam.
Oh god that solo....
This song means so much to me
Love Love Love It!!!....That Came off the Very Top Shelf!!...🔥💯🔥😘
the look zack gives kenny during/after the solo fills my heart with immeasurable joy
Fukin' CHILLS!!.What a voice Brent...KWS that guitar...
Just amazing!! How much fun it must have been to collaborate with this song.
I love this song....and have..... forever!!!! Shinedown has brought it...as always.....with this cover!!!!
Thanks Guys!!!!!
Amazing! Best vocals in Rock today!
Is there anything Brent can't sing? A one in a million voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude can sing and the guitarist is the best
Brent...why must you give me another reason to absolutely love your voice...goddamn...
RichardTheWarlock72 I know right??????? I just asked myself, "How can he make me fall more in love with his voice?" Then he sings this song :)
Great song. Lovely acoustic strumming.
I would love to hear Shinedown do a cover of this song the same way Five Finger Death Punch does it. I feel like Brent's voice would be perfect for that style as well as the acoustic. Rock on guys \m/
2 things--Brent made Kenny smile when he hit that hard section at the end and Kenny is a masterclass in picking.
going to be listening to these awesome tunes when I'm way older lol
Still listening to shindown
Brent's voice is absolute fire...even Kenny knows it. 4:47
Just thought I'd add a comment to those below having the disagreement on Kenny and his song, yes Kenny Wayne Sheppard wrote Blue on Black but, the lead singer was Noah Hunt from Cincinnati, Ohio who sang the song. Brent is doing and awesome rendition of this song, love them both...
did I get this wrong? great job guys
what a voice, dude. we still believe in a new era on rock n' roll. there are any musicians, but unfortunatelly aren't valued
He was tentative at first because he respects KWS and didn't want to mess up the song, but at the end really got more relaxed and into it more.
yeah, when he unloaded, was awesome.
When he did Kenny seemed to enjoy it haha such an amazing song!
Wow, you’re really overanalyzing Brent.
Could possibly be just plain and simple the greatest all around song ever written.
These guys sound awesome unplugged!! I love listening to tallented guitar players like; John 5, Slash, Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen, CC Deville,(Eddiue and CC when not shitfaced/excessively high) Zack Wylde and Randy Rhodes, Lita Ford, Ted Nugent and Peter Frampton to name a few shredding on an electric but nothing tops acoustic jam sesions IMHO. They just feel and sound so much more personal to me.
that VOICE!!
Fantastic cover...!
bueno bueno de verdad... salvando distancias, me recuerda cuando Budis cantaba y yo le acompañaba. Que tiempos !!!
I feel this song so hard right now
Damn, that's some good guitar pickin'.
This just shows me how verastal this band is..
OMG I REMEMBER HEARING THIS WHEN I WAS LITTLE :D #Shinedown #BrentSmith #KennyWayneShepard #BlueOnBlack :33 *Love*
I keep bragging on Brent's awesome voice, Myers is simple bad ass on that guitar too. Great Duo, in this one, Great Trio!!
Why didn't Brent unleash those vocals until the end? Well done.
I was thinking the same, he should of sang the whole song with that passion!!!
He had the original artist in front of him and was nervous. Once he relaxed and let the song sweep him away he pulled out those amazing vocal cord. But you can definitely see him kind of holding back at the beginning.
I disagree that he is nervous, I think he just wanted to save full throttle for the end.
Not really sure why he didn't but in the live version at Smith and Myers show w Kenny Wayne Sheppard he let loose those vocals through the whole song amazing its on TH-cam.
Now this is a great way to spend my afternoon, beautiful sunset and freaking amazing music
good tune 1 of me favs :D
Still amazing! Love shinedown
fuck im learning this tonight
Felix Frost learned it last night. I sit on often with a band I roady for. It's easy learned it on the fly last night's rehearsal.
izzysykopth I love this song
fuck what song is that ?
One of the most under appreciated voices in music normally sings this song, Noah Hunt is AMAZING and Brent of course is amazing as well, very cool.
Blue On Black is one of those songs that I will never get tired of listening to
+Elijah Andersen First time hearing it yeah it's awesome
+Elijah Andersen Timeless song and Smith & Myers did it justice for sure
same here !
Don't you mean gold on white?
same
this is the best damn cover of blue on black on u-tube a double thumbs-up smith&myers
Awesome! My dad would have loved this! He introduced me to Kenny and I introduced him to Shinedown a long time ago. Now I love you both.
Now I would like to see a cover of Metallica's King Nothing. The vocals in that are right up Smith's alley. Would be great that song is already my favorite but shinedown is my favorite band.
Awesome...w Mr. Kenny Shepard..much love
Best song by kenny !!
For the first time with any of these covers, Brent sang with soul. I have hated every single one until this. I kept saying, "Where the hell is that MAGIC?!" Finally showed some of it here. Wish the entire thing was sang with the power and feel of ending. I miss that aspect of his singing sooooooooo much.
If you want to hear him let loose with those soulful vocals look up Smith and Myers live show w Kenny Wayne Sheppard OMG he didn't hold back amazing!!
I do love your version and his.. Feeling very sick, just trying to survive.. Both versions are deep, wrong can't be undone...Tears on a river... Doesn't change a thing..Dosen't bring you back.. Blue on Black.. I'm in tears
love yall shinedown you lead singer you can sing and your band can play very well i am blown away listening to you sing other singer music i mean man you blow me away rock on lois from texas

You guys nailed it! Love this so much, thanks for breathing new life into an old favorite.
🤎🤘🔥
When a cover is better than the original
How have I not heard this????? Favorite singer and one of my favorite songs!!!!
Fantastic! That folks is how you cover a classic. Don't mess it up, just sing it! Love all the Smith & Meyers covers!
this is a badass song
I played with KWS in 91at the BBking blues fest at the KY horsepark in Louisville, Ky great guy I can't believe I just ran across this
Beautiful 💞
First song I’m learning on guitar. 🤪🤪
Their music is the most inspirational thing I’ve heard in years... I truly appreciate their kindness and passion for life and music...
yeah...blue on black...!
you are pretty damn good, Go public, go big!
Would love to see more of these!!!
Fantastic job. Great cover and an awesome song...one of my favorites.
Great version and a great song✌🤘👍
Me and the Ball & Chain are going to the 2/2/19 show at Mohegan Sun. The snow can't stop us. Super pumped!!!!
4:43 caught onto that rub of the hands right before he was gonna kick it up that notch! Yeah!
I love how he is touching his waist like it calms him
I feel like having the original artist fight in front of him adds some pressure, and that's making him seem uncomfortable. That's what I'm thinking.
Best voice....hands down!! Unplugged or in a studio.. Simply amazing..
great rendition
