    Hello Ellie,
    My name is Bobby and I like your video introduction of the Yamaha YDS 150 digital saxophone. My question to you is, can I use the YDS 150 as a starter instrument to learn how to play a soprano saxophone? Is it easy to use and learn? How do I know which mouth piece to use for the instrument? I know there are different types of saxophone mouthpiece i.e. 3c, 4c, 4c M etc…….which mouthpiece is meant for me? Sorry, I got tons of questions, I’m excited and same time skeptical if I should invest in this instrument or not. The bottom line is, I love music and for me there’s nothing more fun, exciting, and relaxing hearing and listening to a saxophone or Bb flat horn. Your advice is very much appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you. Stay safe. Bobby

É para salvar o instrumentos que configuramos do tipo para fazer backup ou simplesmente voltar os sons de fabrica e apagar tudo que salvamos? Saberia me informar por favor? Eu agradeço muito pela ajuda! Obrigado

  • @ab4zr1

    I got mine in Jan, but am not a sax player, but play by ear. I can make better sounds on this with vibrato, dynamic range, always on pitch, crazy range, tonguing, slurring, 73 sax sounds, plus 20 more you can program.
    I would ask that you make one change, however. The lower key on the left thumb is a killer low A key that works on most other sounds, not a “down octave” key.
    You can also program bass sax, and contrabass sax!!!
    Great video

    I received my YDS 150 Jan 2021, mine can input via bluetooth but doesn't output bluetooth. In this video by Ellie, she says that it can output midi via bluetooth. I'm wondering if there is more than one model of YDS 150. Also, I find that after playing it for around 15 minutes it stops playing, and I am using a power bank, so it is not turning off. It seems that the small hole at the bottom of the mouthpiece tube gets plugged from moisture. I've tried stopping and drying the tube with a cotton bud at 10 minutes, but it didn't help. It is a bit annoying that you can't have a long practice session with this instrument. I wonder if other people are experiencing this problem and maybe have found a solution. Please post a reply if you have input about this problem. Otherwise, I really like this new digital saxophone from Yamaha.

      Hi Thomas, Great questions :) I'm going to film in a Q&A video about the YDS tomorrow and get it uploaded later in the week as there have been so many awesome and in depth questions that will be easier to answer via video :) You can output midi via bluetooth to an iPhone to GarageBand but tbh it works lots better wired in to a computer or iPad. I haven't had the issue with it stopping playing after 15 minutes - does the instrument turn off or stay on and stop outputting sounds? I don't have too much of an issue with the bottom of the moutpiece tube getting plugged from moisture but mine does drip a lot onto the floor (which doesn't impress my little dog when she's sleeping under the table!!) 😂 Hope that all helps and will definitely demonstrate bluetooth midi on the video this week :) Ellie 🎷x

      @@elliesaxx Now I'm not having the problem with the moisture, maybe it was a faulty USB cable.

    the vibration isn't there when using the headphones...not a big deal really, and in general I'm impressed with the YDS it does cover what other wind synth missed all these years = a genuine alternative digital sax for silent practice. I'm still comparing the YDS with the Roland Go: the fingering of the latter is the same as the bigger brothers AE10, 20 and 30 and I don't like it much (probably I need more time) but the YDS is like playing a proper sax the Roland isn't. If Yamaha would had added the bite control it would had been better and it's the only variable which keeps me from selling the Roland Go (which has a bite control)....but overall, right now, the YDS 150 is the one I'm going to keep.

    Hi, thank you for the video.
    I would like to jot down a few things I’m wondering about the YDS but can’t find answers to anywhere.
    1, I would love to see a how-to for making the midi controler work. I happen to have(“happen” because I haven’t used it) main stage on my Mac, but when I tried it at the store with their demo device i couldn’t get it to work... or is it only possible via Bluetooth?
    2, Also is there a way to record the YDS sound straight to a smartphone or laptop?
    Thanks

    • @elliesaxx
      @elliesaxx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bee :) Awesome - great questions - I'll film in a YDS Questions and Answers video tomorrow and post it later this week for you :) you can make it work as a midi controller - we've made it work with an iPad Synth app and Logic on Mac so will definitely show how to link it up :) you can then record it in (either with the YDS sounds or synth sounds) so I'll put that in there too for you :) Stay tuned and I'll get it uploaded asap for you, Ellie 🎷x

      Hi ellie sax,
      I thought I had replied, but it looked like I hadn’t.
      Really appreciate your reply.
      This is great! Looking forward to your video very much.
      Knowing that it is recordable in both YDS sounds and the synth sounds on Logic is awesome!
      I would love to find out how to do this, and will stay tuned for that video. I hope I don’t need too much extra equipment for it, but I guess we’ll find out :)
      (by the way, if the midi works for logic, am I right in assuming the same midi set-up will work for GarageBand and Mainstage? *if you don’t know that’s fine, but just thought I would ask in case you did know)
      Again, really looking forward to your video!
      Thank you :)

      @elliesaxx  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@beewinters6968 Hi No problem at all :) video is coming this week :) I chat over it working in Logic but the same midi set up definitely works with GarageBand - not too sure on MainStage as I've never used it but think it should work the same way :)

  • @Garflips

    How much MIDI control do you have? I assume air pressure in the mouthpiece defaults to velocity but can you set it for anything else such as breath or after touch? Also I believe there's another toggle near the right thumb position. Do you know what the choices for MIDI CC are? What about the range - is it a standard sax range or is it extended up and down an octave? When moisture builds up in the mouthpiece does it end up dripping out the bell?

    • @elliesaxx
      @elliesaxx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary.
      Got a few follow up videos going more in depth and addressing midi control, velocity settings and the toggle near the right thumb position coming up.
      Not sure re. CC messages - got some more discovering to do on that.
      Standard sax range (so no extending octaves) Each preset sound is set at the register it would be on an acoustic sax. You can’t do any crazy changes - so would have to do that in software.
      Yes you do get some dripping out of the bell.
      Volume settings are 1 to 15
      Hope that helps,
      Ellie :)

      @@elliesaxx MIDI control and exactly what is available as controller data to use when recording MIDI sequences into a DAW are the main questions I have. I'm afraid everything else has been covered by the manual and other reviewers. What's missing is whether this YD-150 puppy can be a serious recording tool besides a great looking practice tool. And I'm not talking about recording the onboard sounds, I'm talking about controlling things like the SWAM library in a DAW recording MIDI sequence data... which is what I do already with Yamaha's long discontinued WX-5 as well as with the Hornberg and TEC breath controllers. Thanks.

    • @elliesaxx
      @elliesaxx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Garflips we’ll be releasing some more videos over the next few weeks using it as a midi controller with iPad & Synth1 app and Mac & Logic to see its midi controller capabilities. I’ll run it through Midi Re-Mapper and then I should be able to see exactly what CC messages are coming off it and what we can re-map them to 👍🏻 watch this space 👍🏻

      @@elliesaxx you just reminded me how badly I wish there was a quiet practice instrument that supported both sax and clarinet fingerings. 😭 On the other hand, clarinet is already so portal and can be played so quietly that perhaps this is unnecessary. 🤔 Thanks for the info!
