  • Here is the link to review Nursing Exam or NCLEX style questions related to Schizophrenia: empowern.com/2015/07/schizophr...
    Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that generally appears in late adolescence or early adulthood, (between ages 15-25 among men and about 25 to 35 in women) but then, it can rise at whatever point in life. It affects approximately 1% of the population, affecting almost equally men and women.
    Schizophrenia comes from the Greek word schizo which means “split” and Phrene that means “mind”. However, contrary to popular belief, the word schizophrenia does not mean “split mind and/or multiple personalities”, but rather, “split off” from reality. With schizophrenia the individual has an altered capacity to interpret reality- frequently loss of contact with reality. This disorder affects how the person thinks, acts, feels, and sees the world. A person with schizophrenia may see or hear things that don’t exist, may not make sense when they talk, believe that others are reading their minds, controlling their thoughts, trying to harm them, or feel like they’re being constantly watched. They may sit or stand for quite a long time without moving or talking. In many cases, the illness develops so slowly that the affected person does not know he/she has it for quite a while. While, with other people it can strike suddenly and develop fast.
    Most schizophrenics, if untreated, progressively withdraw from interactions with other people, and lose their capacity to deal their own personal needs and grooming.

    Please tell me!
    1. Feeling like someone is always home with me, to the point where I lock myself in my room for hours.
    2. Hearing voices that aren’t mine telling me to do stuff
    3. People talking to or about me that aren’t
    4. Feeling unsafe outside
    5. Feeling two or more people yelling at me or arguing with me.
    6. Severe insomnia because I see figures.
    7. Hearing two people yell at each other or talk
    8. Hearing many insults hurting me.
    9.feeling things like water.
    10.pinches or getting scared
    11. Being scared to leave home or my room
    12. Seeing bugs in the sink on me etc.
    This has been going on for two years. I don’t think I should tell my mom or anyone because I don’t wanna be told I’m lying. What should I do? I feel like if I tell:
    A family member- I’ll be told I’m lying
    My therapist- I’ll be locked in a psych ward.

I can't sleep because of shadowy figures or fear I'm being watched..when this happenes, my girlfriend helps calm me down and understand it's just chemical misfirings in the my brain. I can ask her if she sees or heard the things I do, she says "no I don't hear that song or I don't see that shadow, it's just stimuli in the brain that's causing me to split from reality" having someone else there to tell me that in times that I can't think straight has really helped me. I wish the best luck to you my friend.

    My mother's a schizophrenic. We didn't know that for 25 years. I need some suggestions. My mom had constant fear of terrorists who'd kill her and our family because of her. She was a teacher and was always fearful of people plotting against her. My Elder brother and Father used to beat her up for almost a decade or around it. I remember that me and my twin used to run away with our mom at midnight outside our home saving our life because we feared our father would kill our mom and we'd stray all the night on the roads till morning when my father would be asleep and back to normal from his alcohol levels . She would get ready and leave for her school to teach. She kept earning for us children to feed us never mentioning her conditions. We always believed it was God with us. And then we grew and became mature but our mom started fearing even more. Fast forward - Dec 2017- She was 66 years old and started talking to random imaginary people which we never saw her do all these years and it was scary. A week later she jumped up the 10 foot wall (she's only 5 foot 2 inches tall) and ran away running on the streets shouting terrorists have come for her and she wasn't even recognising me , we literally had to wait 16 days for her appointment to the doctor who treated her way back in 1999 and told my father it was depression (which was true and very vague as an explanation). This January 1st , 2018 I made notes of her behaviour all these years including her suicidal tendencies (poison drinking and then drinking fuel to kill herself) and talking to angels and God ,etc. We got her on this drug Risperidone by discontinuing Alprazolam (which she was immune to and it didn't work for her rather increasing her symptoms) . Risperidone worked awesomely after a period of a week and she has improved since January but recently now in May 2018 ,she's again started to have fears of neighbours plotting against killing our family and people listening to her (which she always had in all these 25 years) but she doesn't talk to random voices or have hallucinations like she did in December. My questions are :1)is she getting immune to Risperidone ? 2) Is her condition reverting to her maniac phase? 3) I stay in India and doctors here only experiment on patients here and even the best doctor in my city doesn't discuss much about her details with me what options do I have ? 4) are there questions you could suggest that I should ask to her doctor when I visit him next month on her routine checkup? 5) Is there anything that I could care for as she doesn't speak much after the medications and she's not expressive I fear she's hiding something. My mom is the world to me and I am not getting married so that I don't have to divide my time on a wife and a baby so to say. I want to do everything for my mom that I Can ,I just want her to have her old age years happy because she had enough of violence and social boycott and seeing her sleep beside me in that comfort and deep sleep is the most beautiful time of the day for me. My mother sleeping without fearing for her life ,without her loved ones abandoning her when she needs help is beyond expressions. I can't even imagine what my life would have been had my mother not worked and raised us up despite her illness and took horrifying beatings , burning, slitting, bone breaking ,thrashing my Dad gave her then and my mom would simply earn for us to feed us ,to raise us and wake up again and be beaten and treated like a housemaid. I want to be the best son and I feel sad that we ignored her conditions but on that would be the fault of her doctor who never told us that she suffered from schizophrenia and not depression. Thanks for reading what my heart felt. I pray for everyone who is suffering from this to get well soon and be brave ,you guys are heroes in real life. Prayers from India ! And reply me if you can explain anything about my mother .

      @CJ-jp3zw ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry to hear that. I believe it's from trauma, thanks to your horrible family members who abused her. I'm curious to know does she watch alot of TV?

    • @abc_cba
      @abc_cba ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CJ-jp3zw thanks for responding, she died due to the side effects of Risperidone.
      Her psychiatrist never told us about the Black Box Warning that drug had, for elderly and how it causes heart attacks for no reason.
      My Mom told me not to give her Ripseridone that night, she passed away in my lap,
      She kept giving me signs that she was having a heart attack but her being a schizophrenic, I believed that she was having psychological issues and she died right before me.
      There's a saying that lack of knowledge is the worst curse. I wish I knew the side-effects of Risperidone instead of believing her doctor.
      My Mom got so better and was having such a beautiful time with me, but finally these medications killed her.
      Found out due to heavy research that Schizophrenics have a gene alteration where they have very critically low Vitamin B3 levels, which causes all these symptoms.
      I wish I knew all this before.
      She is no-more, writing this with tears in my eyes.
      I've been on antidepressants since three years with the shock of seeing a healthy person die because of side effects of these medicines.
      I don't ever be able to comprehend with that ! I'm shaken for life.

    I think there's also a stress induced/environmental schizophrenia. My daughter did great in high school/had friends and then boom went to college. She has so many things that went wrong in that first year. Plus a car accident, she went into psychosis. Now I heard some of the chaotic stories she told me were going on at college and she was in the middle of it all. Unfortunately, the people at the college made it worse and well, we had to pull her out. We, with the help of drs are hoping that a 30 day intense treatment will help to pull her out of it. It's like she had a nervous break down.

      I have schizophrenia and I'm just curious as there are other things that look similar.
      But as for stress induced, I don't think stress cause cause it, but stress can absolutely trigger it.
      I can only.speak for myself and schizophrenia is very broad, but I mostly suffer from the negative symptoms and have had.most of them since early childhood (my mother says I became cold and detached at 4, but I would know. I felt very differently than everyone else and had bizarre habits at 8 though, but I also was born when my mother had gonorrhea, was born premature, had cancer at 2, and autism, and of course to top that off I also had a very broken home with a dad who enjoyed meth very much)

    The most damaging experiences stem from many people in positions of authority, especially during one with schizophrenia's childhood, are fully willing to alter truths about actions taken by schizophrenics or reality regarding schizophrenics, to protect themselves and social standing with others. I have witnessed and had my own schizophrenia held against me, which creates a number of logical paradoxes and fallacies. When I am certain about a specific reality, or when others are certain of reality, and somebody then lies and claims schizophrenia is the reason for a claimed reality, it is extremely damaging to my psyche. I often times find myself having to have witnesses to events to even be believed when my schizophrenia is even suspected to exist, the number of which typically dwindle due to intolerance schizophrenia. Even my own parents have lied, and blamed my schizophrenia, claiming that I have made up fairly traumatic events, which don't appear out of nowhere, even for people with fairly extreme schizophrenia. Hearing a tertiary voice doesn't typically effect my recollection of what you just stated, for instance, or change the fact of your actions. If you punch somebody, and I call you out on it, or if you lie to me or somebody else and I call you out on it, and it actually happened, claiming or blaming the event on my schizophrenia is just messed up.

    2:02 "That most persons with schizophrenia are neither violent or present a danger to other persons." I think that the reason for this is that it takes empathy to become schizo.. I think that what makes them use this part of their brain too much is because they are overly concerned that they are having bad thoughts since they have been convinced that their thoughts are not private (easy to do if you hear voices). A violent or dangerous person is more likely to not use this part of the brain that makes a person stuck in this way of thinking too much that causes this illness because they don't care if their thoughts are heard. Its the caring that drives them insane. Honestly, I think that every schizo person should be treated the same as a rape patient because everybody has the right to have private thoughts but theirs has been violated..

      @CristianSanchez-io9ye 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not to go against you, but you wouldn't understand my thoughts. Of course I want to have a private mind, and have trained myself to see the side of reality which is to be seen (but yet when I think about it nothing can possibly be real) and know that I have private thoughts. You just could never understand them! Cogito Ergo Sum

      How could you have private thoughts if voices are responding to what you are thinking? And how could you not have empathy if you are hearing voices when its inevitable to put yourself in their shoes from having to hear it all of the time. Having empathy doesn't mean that you care, just means that you understand.

    A buddy of mine has a girlfriend who has become extremely difficult to deal with and I was hoping for advice to help her. She is constantly arguing loudly with a voice in her head and we can't get her to stop. She tried for hours to fill out the stimulus application on my computer but every question apparently had other meanings whereby someone would screw her over in the future if she didn't get it right. The application was for people who haven't worked (with any tax history) but basically are just registering themselves as existing to receive the money. The application should have considered people who haven't worked as possibly having a mental disorder and made it easier to fill out but it didn't. If anything it was more complicated than the one I did for myself and kept referring her to other pages to be filled and in the end she was hopelessly confused and gave up. The other problems she seems to keep experiencing is she believes there's a bad smell on either her skin or clothes (she can never find the source) and that her hair can't be managed because of getting something in it that won't come out. The whole experience with her was exhausting and I doubt my buddy will put up her much longer in which case she will end up homeless again. She's a fairly attractive girl when she's smiling and laughing but then always gets diverted to something making her angry that she feels nobody understands. None of us can afford psychiatric counseling for her and it's disappointing the government won't take responsibility to help these people. I've often seen vagrant homeless types talking or fighting with an imaginary person the same as her and I'm sure most in the medical industry can immediately recognize it. Committal to psychiatric hospitals should not be voluntary in these cases that are so blatantly obvious. Thanks for reading.

    My brother in law is a psychiatrist and did a pre self diagnoses before seeing what kind of help he could get. After being interviewed and watched a little while the people who where trying to help him figured out he was actually right. His is extremely severe.. With, what he says, people screaming at him. ( It was difficult to explain how he felt and things going on because he isn't from the USA. Translating many of the things where difficult because he didm't know how to speak english too well). Everything that happens to him never goes away but he knows now how to contain feelings and how to "ignore" what is happening in a way. It's really cool to learn about how it effects him so I can further understand how to help in my my life.

    • @johannasegura5159

      This is 3 years too late, but my mother has an extremely severe case of schizophrenia. It went untreated and undiagnosed until she was in her early 50s. She's extremely dangerous when not on her meds. The meds unfortunately have side effects. But the alternative is worse. Honestly if this child's affected parent is getting treated early, then it'll be fine. The child will need to learn to accept a parent who is medicated. That's the hard part for the child. My mother is very kind natured now, but she is loopy. She has been robbed of her people skills too, which saddens me. She used to be able to carry a conversation, now she can't. She still isolates herself to a certain extent. She has chosen to no longer speak to her friends. Keep in mind, that my mother went over 20 years of not being properly treated or diagnosed while her condition got worse. I don't know anything about this child's parent's situation. My younger brother shows all symptoms of schizophrenia. But he hasn't seen anyone, so there's no diagnosis. My younger sister is still a minor and in the past has coped with my mother's illness by receiving therapy, and spending a lot of time around a different mother figure. One of her friends invites my sister over every week or so. They're family is void of mental illnesses. That small normalcy gives her a place to go when she is upset with my mother. She's too young to understand why my mother is the way she is. But my sister knows not to take it out on the person with the illness. Obviously, this situation is far more worse for my mother than for her kid. That's something that we all have to remember too. My brother is more of a problem because he's getting zero help. My younger sister is literally afraid of him. He's an adult, so he has to decide if he needs or wants help.

    I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder but have always been severely paranoid. I know that borderlines have issues with paranoia, but I keep getting “are you a schizophrenic?” when my thoughts are being talked about. I have issues with feeling as though there are monsters in the trees watching me at night, and it gets as bad as to the point where I feel as though I can see their figures moving to get a better look at me, or that they’re getting closer together to talk about me. I also have issues with feeling as though people who cannot be seen are watching and listening to me, as well as people being sent to spy on me, people being out to find a way to physically harm me, or people being able to get inside of my head and read my thoughts. I’ve been struggling with this for a while but haven’t got any treatment for the paranoia itself until I was diagnosed with BPD. I take pills for psychosis that get rid of most of the anxiety these thoughts give me and help me to ignore them but I was originally put on it to help my symptoms of BPD. As of right now, the biggest paranoid thought I’ve been dealing with is feelings of being stuck in a coma. Lately my family life is falling apart so it makes a little bit of sense that it’s easier for me to believe that I’m dreaming rather than actually living the hell that my life has become. But feeling like I’m in a coma includes not believing what anyone around me tells me (mainly when it comes to telling me I’m NOT in a coma), believing that if I kill myself I’ll wake up, and believing that nothing matters since I’m dreaming, which leads to me feeling empty/numb and doing dumb things to land me in lots of trouble. Can anyone give me their feedback ? Is this normal for someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, or should I seek to be reassessed?

      There may need to be a change on meds or a medication maybe having adverse effects. I believe that you should have your doctors or therapist look into it. The Atypical anti psychotics have produced some bad effects. Also, combinations. Also, your General Doc needs to rule out medical conditions such as diabetes, immune system disorders, endocrinology. I hope this helps. Some meds need to stop and may or may not be replaced with something else. I hope this helps. God bless you and he will keep you😊

Wether they boo you, cheer you, or whatever they have to say, you are still the main attraction. They are and always will be fans and onlookers on the other side of the barracade. They are merely spectators, and fans. Wether they support you or hate you, they are always going to be just that, onlookers and fans. You'll always be the star ⭐

Just like someone that has diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. The illness is something they have and need to take care of and manage in order to live a functional life. What's distracting is not that you may speak to fast but that all your audio clips seemed to be spliced. You can tell their is a lot of editing in your scripts and it doesn't seem to flow naturally. Other than that, I think it is great

    While I loved this video, the cuts were very distracting. Especially when you cut in the middle of a sentence. I don't mind you editing things out, but can you please try to not cut things out in the middle of a sentence? Otherwise, it was great :)

    I have symptoms and my grandmother has it I’m also 20 and a male but I don’t want to have this at all I hope I’m just really paranoid but I do hear and feel things that might not be there I can never tell. I feel bugs crawling on my skin at night, and the floor always makes sounds when I’m asleep, i feel like something is coming to me but when I get up I see nothing but I can hear someone on the floor maybe not someone maybe something but the floor only makes noise when someone is walking on it. I get scared of that. When I’m outside I can’t decide what to do anymore because I don’t want anyone to hurt me ugh I feel like I’m ok maybe it’s all a coincidence I don’t know

My mom showed me all the letters and pictures of myself writing those letters to myself. It was so difficult to believe it..I've been having my therapy since then. Now, I live all by myself, I can't be friends with anyone, I'm afraid they would all turn out to be just my imagination.

    a person with schizophrenia hv an altered perception of reality,so some drugs also cause you to get into altered perception of reality does this means we get schizophrenic after using drugs?

    • @empowern
      @empowern  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Eric Litho good question Eric, if a medication causes an altered perception, usually the doctor just stops the medication. But that would not mean the patient has a Dx of schizophrenia.

    • @sho.me.spring53
      @sho.me.spring53 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eric Litho Yes, its called drug induced schizoprenia (which means the drugs caused the schizophrenia)- there are medications and drugs that can increase the chances (from environmental factors) of developing drug induced psychosis or schizophrenia. Now I'm not saying that if you do drugs you'll end up developing schizophrenia; like the video said in the beginning, there are no clear answers as to what causes schizophrenia, so it's usually a combination of many things.

    Well to sum it up. There are no objective criteria for schizophrenia. Its diagnosis and treatment are based on subjective evaluations and impressions of mortal beings who 're prone to make mistakes. This makes it open to all sorts of abuses. Even we can't know if the patient responds well to the treatment as the evaluation of the improvement or retrogression of the patients too is again based on subjective impressions. Actually we can't distnguish a person who really suffers from schizophrenia from a person who pretends to be schizophrenic. Thus we can't know if this condition is a temporary one which will disappear by itself in time just like flu or a permanent one like diabetes. Actually according to World Health Organization data the ones who don't receive any treatment for schizophrenia in underdeveloped countries are doing much better than the ones recieving aggressive drug treatments in developed countries in the long run. Those symptoms mentioned here could well develop in prolonged stays in coercive environment of psychiatric hospitals and the ensuing uncertainity emerging in the minds of the patients, and actually mental health professionals could well be the main culprit of the aggravated symptoms of this condition which would otherwise disappear completely when they're treated in noncoercive and compassionate environments. We need transparency and accountability in mental health facilities

    If you have something that you really want in your life, spend lots of time thinking about it. The more you think the more ideas will pop up the more creative your gonna start to get. Your subconscious mind doesn't care if your vision is crazy. It doesnt care if you dont know how to do it.
    When you see a thing clearly in your mind, your creative "success mechanism" within you takes over and does the job much better than you could do it by conscious effort or willpower.
    A different psychedelic from a different planet every nanosecond.
    All sorts of dreams are possible.
    The human nervous system cannot tell the difference between an "actual" experience and an experience imagined vividly and in detail.
    Synthesize "experience," to literally create experience, and control it, in the laboratory of our minds.
    A vision is a very emotional image, the most powerful image that you can come up with for yourself at this time. This vision will become like a hallucination in other peoples mind and this could be the cause of them creating extraordinary things.

    I'm glad I'm here, all the whole I thought I was just misunderstood and undervalued. I've pushed allot of good people away. I need help. My mother has kinda teased me about it all my life because her mother head it but I thought she was just being mean to me 😭😭😭. I was sent to q mental health hospital when I was younger from like 15-17 but they just dismissed it as depression and I personally didn't think I was depressed just frustrated from being misunderstood. I'm 20 now and I'm on a spiritual journey sometimes it's hard to decipher my spirit angels or guides from my actual self. How can I get help if I don't have insurance???

I have even had my closest loved ones get mad at me when I tell them they are misunderstanding me 😔 which as you can imagine leads to more feelings of isolation and abandonment. I see you! Wish we could connect some way
