Oh man, I watched your 10 reasons why not to buy an eos M a couple days ago (each and every one of them completely valid and real frustrations/annoyances about the camera) but I thought you were a guy who wants to tear the camera apart and the amazing potential (in the patient hands) it has. But boom! you go and make a 10 reasons TO maybe take a chance on this very much forgotten camera. Very well made videos so far, my friend. Also, I'm guessing you've seen this before in the comment section, but you clearly have a technical/best image quality-on-a-budget meets story-mind (trust me, I'd give my left lung for a 11 year old 5600hr used classic Alexa, but not in the budget currently). But you infuse your TH-cam vids with an entertainment* you create characters and make your videos fun to watch, that I can't help but be entertained and informed at the same time. Keep up the good work!!!

I'm having a lot of fun shooting with danne's latest ML build (september)!
Continuous 5K anamorphic FRTP (which gives me 4392*1836px footage once in MLV app), dual ISO, 10 to 14 bits RAW... All of that for 200€ (18-55mm lens + shipping)? It's well worth the learning curve in my opinion.
Heck even the 1080p/2K modes are entirely worth it for YT content and whatnot (besides, it's 2022, there are plenty of machine learning software like Topaz AI you could use to upscale that to 4K and get decent results with).
It's niche, mostly for people who like to tinker and experiment, but personally I'm glad I got this camera.

Regarding the eos M, I'm thinking about getting one although I already have an old 7D with ML installed. It shoots 14bit continuous in approx 1700x970 non cropped and can do quite a bit of 2.5k cropped. But it sucks with aliasing. So I wonder if the eos M would be an upgrade at all with all these nice resolutions and all. 🤔 What do you think?

I'm not really familiar with the 7d but just from what you've shared and what I know about the eos M; I believe in some ways it will be an upgrade. Like you mentioned there's some nice resolutions but also the eos m is much more compact 😀

New to this, but what was the app you were mentioning?
Oh Cool Welcome. The "MLV App" It's a desktop application that processes the footage, so that you can then edit the footage in your video editor of choice. In This Video I walk through how I use the MLV app and how I have my camera set up and everything so you can see what I'm talking about.

You can get auto focus to work, its under the raw menu, under small hacks "af on". Allthough it not the greatest, if you have a canon lens and want to do vlogging, this can work for you. I also like how its kind of slow to focus, and not super accurate. Sometimes I think that some of the modern cameras out there with perfect focus look kinda weird and unnatural. With the eos-m, the focus is a little laggy, kinda simulating a more cinematic look, which is what you're going for anyways right? I do mostly use manual lenses though, my favorite is using the russian Helios 44-2 with a viltrox speedbooster, the thing turns any scene into magic!
That's good to know. I know a few months ago when I had the 18-55 efm lens I tried it. Does auto focus only work in 1080 mode? Yea I just use manual lenses as well. Lol I've been hearing about that one. I may need to try it out haha
with all my love to eos M I use it so much. but 5k is a bit too much. upscaled 1440p is not 5k , its not 3k it's barely even 2.5k . thou EOS M is capable of 3k. at it's best. and it is indeed better sharper and often more detailed than typical 4k footage from other cameras. 5k is an upscaled mode from maximum of 1440p because higher frtp modes are loosing frames.

This is not a pocket camera. Canon lenses are bulky and even the smalets canon lense or the equivalent of it will not let this camera to fit in your pocket. Unles your pokets are kanguroo marsupio. This is not a cheap camera. You wrote the 150$ for the body. Okay let's add at least one cheap lense that will cost 100$ - a good canon 50 mm lense with autofocus. That leads us to 250$. For this price you can buy a sony a 6000 an that one will fit in your pocket without questions. I used to have one. Is amazing.
The image quality of the canon - it is good but you do not get it from the body of the camera. You must use a third part software (Magic Lantern) that may broke your camera. You must work on post production on that footage.
For the price of 150$ - 200$ I would go for a Lumix GX 85. The image quality right from the camera is way much better that the canon does (if you use it as is - without the ML).
Why I am writing this? Like back in 2013 when I've started to do photography there warent many choices. But still were some. So I trouble to find my camera for my needs. Many wloggers used to go for that specific cameras and not being objective about the whole subject of the cameras that are on the market. So when someone is doing a camera pushing, he or she must say all the hidden rocks objectively. Otherwise this is not a fare play.
