  • This portable Cassette Player / Recorder made in 1986 is top of the notch. At a new price of 1198 DM (charging unit and carrying case not included), this hefty thing was built for field use and to work under the worst of conditions.
No matter how tough it was built, some parts will still go bad over time - mostly rubber and electrolytic capacitors.
This video can be used as a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot your Device and eliminate the most usual causes for this thing not giving any output or performing badly.
    Power Supply: 1:40
    Filter Capacitors: 2:48
    Belts: 4:11
    Pinch Rollers: 9:50
If you want to know more about this device I suggest you to take a look at this article: zstereo.co.uk/...

Thanks, this video is really helpfull ! My CR240's belts are gone as well, most likely those capacitors too. . I'll change them all out soon, and this video is of great help. The left channel is completely dead as well, might be one of the many tantalium caps in there. Fun stuff to fix :)

that is a really fine unit....seems well engineered! I still have several cassette players, and all my cassettes that I recently cleaned up, and started to listen to. I learned that there is a company still making blank cassettes. Great, and patient job of restoration......good job, and fun to see!

It cost me quite an effort to open the device up AGAIN after the tone coming out of this thing fluttered that hard... But I am happy I went the way - in terms of speed stability, the thing is actually better than the JVC in my HiFi.
The only downside is it doesnt have Dolby Noise Reduction - but you cant have everything, right?
I still have loads of cassettes from my father, so I guess I wont run out of cassettes to record anytime soon ;-)
      Thanks for coming around!

Your video is AMAZING my dude. I just bought a couple of Uher devices, a Royal De Luxe reel to reel, a Report 4400 Stereo and a Cr210 with some tapes for cheap, but with the caveat that they're all somehow broken. Turns out the caps are gone and my PSU is also completely dead. On my Report 4400 I noticed that the PSU would get hot but not manage to turn the motor, so I'm guessing it has a similar PSU issue. I've seen someone just mod a 12V 1A adapter to a DIN plug and get it to work, so that's an alternative for anyone who can't seem to fix the original PSU or can't find one online.

Thank you Adrian for this very informative and useful video! Today I was replacing the belts on my Uher CR 240 cassette player and i was in a bit of trouble when I tried to put back the loading mechanism. Thanks to you I was able to put everything back together and now I am enjoying listening to some good music! Frohe Weinacht!

Very well structured walkthru of all essential faults of this recorder. Please don't insert a voltage reg in PSU, as this will cause power drop to the recorder at load and a lot of heat inside the Z131. The recorder already have a built-in voltage (BD241) regulator. Only C22 should be 25V, the rest 10VDC

I've kinda given up on getting those belts in. Such a tricky thing to get right. I tried for about an hour and just gave up lol.

After repair my Z131 for my CR 240 is also ~25V (unloaded). I think this is intentional from the power circuitry that allows the C cells, or alternative sources through the Autoradio socket. One of my diagrams shows '12-24V'. The clever pressure connectors in the battery compartment (or bridges from the button within the Autoradio socket) detect which source is connected and adjust accordingly. I think Uher knew what they were doing, but kudos for getting that little regulator to fit so neatly!

Precisely, there is already a regulator in uher CR recorders. Replace the Z131 capacitors with 10mF/25V only. The extra impedance of the regulator will limit the output of the Z131 if you use external speakers for example.

2 More things I want to add. I don't think your 24V --> 12V circuit is neccessary, the manual states this: " Betrieb mit Fahrzeugbatterien
    Autoradio".
I guess it's safe to assume that it should work with 24V as well, which is how the original PSU was wired.
The belts are another point. I see you used round belts vs the triangle/square belts that are often intended to be put on these machines. I've noticed that the eBay kits always come with round belts, but the experts recommend triangle ones (hard to get) or square. Round belts just have less surface area for grip.

Bester Video Walk through bisher gesehen.

Do not use round belts, you will have to replace them. Square are std. Triangle are very difficult to find. Allways replace the yellow Frako caps, they will go to short, cause a lot of damage. Today much larger capacitance is possible, i e 10000/25 in the Z131 and 6800/10 inside. This will bring down hum & noise with another 2-3dB.

    • @AstraWerke
      @AstraWerke  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Not until I notice the machine's performance decreasing... There are too many in here to just go ahead and replace all of them.
