John thanks for your lesson on Ace playing. You are such a good teacher and some people dont have the skill to explain things,or the over explain and freak people out and scare them away from songs like this. Thanks mate.
Love all the songs you have covered john, at almost 50 years old and having to relearn basic guitar again (not that i played that well all those years ago either). So after 37 years of not playing ,your instruction online is a great compliment to the lessons I have been taking. It make praticing so much easier.Thank you very much. All this being siad I would love to see you pick apart New york groove from the 96 VMA's.Thanks again. PS- These song kick a$$ on my Budokan as well.
Awesome John. I had no idea it was played that way, I've been playing it incorrectly all these years. That's why I enjoy your videos so much. Looking forward to the next one!
you help so much, thank you :). The tabs on internet about this awesome guitar solo are wrong, and finally with your great video i can play this guitar solo of the correct way. thank you again ;)
John if your videos were around in 85 86 I may have been a guitarist instead of a drummer. But I'm enjoying learning to play these solos now so keep em coming .
freaking amazing. I am new to guitar. only been playing one year. learning by watching wlphantom on youtube. they are not tutorials. just playing. I suck but I am learning a lot by just doing. I don't know the names of any notes. chords or scales but I just tune with my electric tuner and go for it. I have the new tommy Thayer spaceman guitar. and I got a les paul cherry sunburst epiphone. a cheap white flying v. but I am having the time of my life. great video. you rock. you got ace down.
John these video's are totally AWESOME!!!!! I was wondering if you could do a lesson on Ozone. I almost have the solo down but am having issues with the return up the scale.
Thanks, John! I love the "Love Gun" solo even though my left hand always wants to move slower or faster than my pick...lol! I've been on a "Charisma" kick lately. If you ever get the chance, I'd love to see a lesson on that sweet thumpin' albeit often overlooked classic. Not only would it be a welcome surprise song for a KISS cover band to play, but I swear if you took a rockin' female vocalist and some sexy girl backing singers/dancers, that song could rise again to a whole new dimension.
Hey, I'm a drummer first and foremost too. Truth be told, I didn't start studying Ace's stuff until '96 or '97. Then came the website followed by the tribute band stuff. But, thanks for the compliment !
As a fellow Ace fan, I'm curious as to which is your favorite Ace song and lead? My favorite Ace song is from the solo albums "Something Moved" the intro riffs are killer. My favorite lead is probably "Love Her All I Can". Honorable mentions to "Parasite and Strange Ways". I like pretty much all of his stuff, less 1 or 2. Just wondering your view? And thanks again for the lessons, like many, I can sure put them to good use.
Scotty D where did you get that idea! It certainly is Ace! You can tell just by the way the solo is laid out! You might be thinking of Sweet Pain on Destroyer! Or side 4 of Kiss Alive 2 which was all done by Bob Kulick! Ace even copied the solo on Christene Sixteen originally by Eddie VanHalen
Chris Hebditch Excuse me I meant say that Bob Kulick played all the solos on side4 of Kiss Alive II except Rocket Ride! That’s Ace all the way baby oh yeah!!
Thank you very much. I do my best. The reality is that a video of this length will take upwards of 4 to 5 hours to create. Stopping and starting because of mistakes and/or not clearly explaining a part ... if I don't understand what I'm saying, I'm sure nobody else will. LOL !!!
Hi Frank ... That is my 1975 Gibson Les Paul Custom. Ace's original was a 1974, but this is almost the exact same guitar as his. It's actually for sale right now (www.ebay.com/itm/133312898159) ... asking $2,250 USD for it. Email me directly if you're interested ... jmtate3@shaw.ca.
Pretty cool! I’m not musically talented at all but always was interested how guitar players could make a guitar sing. Thanks it was interesting to watch.
If you tackle a lesson for the solo on Strange Ways, I'll name my next pet after you. I'm not kidding. I'll have an iguana named AceFrehleyLesPaul. Totally for reals. So just to confirm, that's a request for the solo to Strange Ways and it yields a uniquely named iguana, or whatever, I'll even let you decide what kind of pet if you want.
Well done as a video to one of the few ok KISS songs. This song DOES have a great chord sequence, REAL nice as this demonstration video shows- Also showing how pitiful the solo work was. And if you don't want to choke to death in derision don't watch Gene Simmons trying to do a Bass solo. Ace was the only musician in the band who could actually play. Too bad he's a useless burn out. Sorry to be so harsh but no band that has such a contempt for it's own fans and for music is ok. *Led Zeppelin*!
Best teacher so far on this song thankyou
Wow!!! Thank you very much, SL!!
I can’t stop watching these videos! You’ve helped me play so much better
Thank you
John thanks for your lesson on Ace playing. You are such a good teacher and some people dont have the skill to explain things,or the over explain and freak people out and scare them away from songs like this. Thanks mate.
Great lesson; really appreciate the extra detail on the two different versions of the solo! Always loved this song

This is a great detailed lesson, thanks so much 🤙
Thanks very much, Thomas !! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you very much ! Enjoying the instrument is 95% of it. As long as you've got that ... the rest will fall into place.
very helpful and sounds great, thanks John!

Very helpful, thank you
THANKS MAN!!!!👏👏👏👍🏼😊
You're welcome!! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Really love these videos. How about the to die for Strange Ways and Love Her All I Can?
Thanks, John! I love the "Love Gun" solo even though my left hand always wants to move slower or faster than my pick...lol! I've been on a "Charisma" kick lately. Another great lesson, John. Thank you. Still hoping for a God of Thunder lesson so I can teach my son the solo ;)
Can you do rip it out?
You are a good man... my boy is Jakob.
Thanks brother !

Can you show us Eruption?
What chord do I play to get my guitar to start smoking?
LOL !!!!!!! You play an "R" chord ... as in "R you sure that's the right chord"!!! LOL !!!!!!
I did Deuce already on some of the earliest videos. Check Episode 5 & 5A for the guitar solos. I don't think I did one for the rhythm guitar parts.
You should upload your own guitar covers in video, that would be badass
Scotty D where did you get that idea! It certainly is Ace! You can tell just by the way the solo is laid out! You might be thinking of Sweet Pain on Destroyer! Or side 4 of Kiss Alive 2 which was all done by Bob Kulick! Ace even copied the solo on Christene Sixteen originally by Eddie VanHalen

Do Deuce Alive! next! plz
When you doing another video
Loading one right now. Should have it up by tomorrow and I hope to film another video tomorrow, as well.
Hi Paul ! OK ... G.O.T. is next, I promise. I'm heading off on vacation so it'll be a few weeks, but it'll be next.
You should do a Amp Lesson-Pedals lessons
Ozone ... cool tune !!! I think that's an underrated song and/or guitar solo. I'll add it to the list and work on a clear demo of the solo for you.
Tune?
Just half-step down. Nothing fancy, like the Talk To Me & Two Sides Of The Coin video.
@@johntate3750 thanks my friend
what kind of guitar is that what model les paul

0.9 or 0.10 strings calibre?
Thanks!
really?
Pretty cool! I’m not musically talented at all but always was interested how guitar players could make a guitar sing. Thanks it was interesting to watch.
standard tunning?
quit293 tune down 1/2 step. E flat tuning
RobsChannel thanks!!
Both are already on my list. I will get to them, but I'm not sure when.
.
Ñ
aren't you playing in the wrong key? I think it's d# not E.
You have to tune down a half step.

Paul ... what's your son's name ? I'll mention you both, specifically when I do G.O.T..
Wasn’t ace lead, not rhythm?
The difference between the recording and the live version is that Ace didn't play it in the studio...
can you gift me that guitar plz hahaha nice lesson
No. As much as I love Ed's playing ... it's not Ace. Check out the TH-cam page for Tina S. She's 14 and absolutely burns through Eruption !!!
