- In Guilty Gear Xrd, I-No has some hilarious nicknames for the rest of the cast. The only problem is that they are only in Japanese and have no subtitles. But do not worry! I translated them and explained the lore behind them!

Funnily enough in Strive it's revealed that I-No was in fact Axl's lost lover before she was turned in to what she is now so he was never really unfaithful to her.
That's the thing, he didn't hit only on I-No in XX...
Weird...
In earlier guilty gear titles, signs pointed towards S-Ko being connected to Axl.
Somewhat correct, I-No is Megumi (Axl's lover) from an alternative timeline not the exact person herself.

That was a fun video. In MK 11, you can select Johnny Cage as the announcer and he does the same thing on the character select screen. I think there are 2 unique names and then just their name for each character that he will say.
Glad to hear other games are doing it. It's such a great way to express character relationship dynamics.

These intros really do show off how characters see each other so it's nice to see what they actually mean. Thanks for translating this and hope to see more of this in the future since there's not many translations for these intros online from what I've seen.
As a side thing, I definitely think giant tree for Haehyun is just I-no being I-no, and with Leo, I imagine he's not much older than Ky who himself is fairly young looking by comparison. Think it's the closest comparison we have to Leo's age, and also the funniest too considering Leo looks more like a father than Ky but has no children lmao
If Leo is around Ky's age, he has certainly earned that title ^^;
I think I-No is hinting at the fact that, if the robot Kum pilots had genitalia, "giant tree" would be a good descriptor for it. Meaning that she most likely doesn't know that it's a young woman piloting an old man mech.
I like stuff like this. What I've always liked is when characters have alternate names for their attacks that they say, but aren't listed in a moveset.
For example, they do this in Blazeblue a lot. Iron Tager has a move called "Atomic Collider". When he uses the move, he'll yell "Atomic Collider". However, he'll also yell "PLASMAAA!". If you set the game to Japanese, then on the lines where he would have yelled "PLASMAAA" in English, he yells what sounds like "PLASUMA CHAZUK". If you listen carefully, you'll hear that he's trying to say "PLASMA CHASE HOOK", but it's n a Japanese accent and phonetically.
So the other name for his 'Atomic Collider' attack is 'Plasma Chase Hook'. Except, you wouldn't know that because it's not listed as that in the game. He'll just only say it doing the fight.
Great video! I wanted to give a small note that Answer before the events of Xrd was a criminal so calling him a yakuza could also be referring to his prior actions
I love how not only you give the translation, but also insight, this is very good and I think many would love seeing the rest of the other characters nicknames!!!
True, though I would imagine most people who are even a little bit familiar with anime already know what a tsundere is but it's nice explaining just in case.

I-no is Axl's girlfriend (kinda, i don't think axl and i-no actually exist)

I feel like "wild" isn't quite the right translation for Sin's nickname. "Feral child", I feel, fits better.
Would also make Dizzy's nickname work more as an insult since by defining her by her son's lack of any manners at all, she's calling her an incompetent mother.

"I am not sure if I-No knows [Haehyun is a girl]." I'm not sure she cares, tbh.
Her calling Leo "old-looking" is probably related to how he dresses.
I'm sure calling Jam "carnivorous" is also a reference to her being a cook so it's another double entendre.
I suspect she's also referring to Ky as a particular sort of man (slender pretty boy type), not just making a straight comment on his appearance. It's interesting that Sin made enough of an impression on I-No that she even refers to Dizzy (of all people) by her relation to him. Wonder what happened...
Her response to Bedman also gives me the sense of "what do you mean 'Bedman'?" as in she isn't really sure who he is though i don't know if that's a correct reading of the Japanese. He does kinda come out of nowhere both in the lore and in the story.
I have to wonder why 2010's Arcsys would suddenly drop making English Dubs (BBCF, XRD REV) and then not even add subtitles for unique interactions, effectively locking the non-Japanese playerbase out from enjoying the interactions

Neat video idea, would love to see more. I never really thought about these voicelines beyond just picking Baiken (my main) and moving on with my day. Really adds to each character's personality, you know?
I-no says wa ta shi in the way she does because it is the end of the common trope line where a girl asks 'do you want dinner first? Or a bath? Or, me?' When wanting something sexual from their partner, or implying that the person they are talking to should want to be intimate with them after coming home from a hard day of work.
I-No using Chan on Ramlethal sounds strange considering she said that she killed Ramlethal many times in different times lines if I am correct. She must have softened up to Ramlethal after Ram developed her own emotions and will

I do know some characters have special lines for picking specific characters, but I can't remember which ones from the top of my head

Great video! One thing I'm curious about: you said that there are no english voices available, but I found videos on youtube of these lines in english (from "Guilty Gear Voice Channel" specifically). Are they hidden in the code somewhere and not available normally? Or is it only certain editions of Xrd?
They're English voice but I think they are just generic round calls and don't use the same humor as the JP does.
The earlier versions (SIGN) of the game had English voices but was removed in later ones. So there are limited voice lines for the initial cast but not for the characters added later on.

Just my five cents, even if there's duplicate lines (like I-No calling Elphelt/Ram/Baiken X-chan), it would still be nice to hear it anyways.
pretty sure Leo's in his mid 30s, I think he's a few years older than Ky based on his story of when they met and Ky is 29-30 in Xrd
also Jam being a "carnivorous type" could refer to her restaurant being known for meat taken from a live dragon
and to take some artistic liberties with what she calls Haehyun, you could localize it as "You like to stroke the big tree", to make it both a pun on I-No's move and Haehyun's role in the story (i doubt they'll ever go back and make a dub for Rev 2 but if any Arcsys interns are reading this, here's a suggestion lol)

03:30 Lol. There's an immense irony in May getting called out as someone who acts older than she is when she is basically the exact opposite in character and never acts her actual age. I guess it still works when Johnny is still like at least half a decade older than her though.
I think the may one is funny because in spme ways, she could be seen as a young girl trying to act older than she is, when in actuality she is older than she looks but acts very childish.
Before the Rev 2 update there used to be English voice acting for the game, so most characters have this available in English rn here on TH-cam.

And most people don't go into videos with the intent to immediately skip forward to the actual video. Take other guilty gear voice videos for example, they just start immediately. There's no reason that this video couldn't have also done that. And your counter is laughably braindead because it's basically just saying "the viewer should work around this problem" instead of acknowledging the problem. What inspired you to reply to this 1 year old comment just to say nothing of value? What gears in your brain turned (or didn't turn) to make you decide you're gonna defend an overly long intro today? Don't you feel embarrassed to be so braindead? If you don't then get on it.
