    I'm noticing people don't really buy ultra boost for any kind of running. Rather, they are worn for comfort during errands / regular every day routine.

  • @ic3iii
    @ic3iii 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Most ultraboost reviews I see are on the styling of the shoe and not a performance review so I appreciate the informative video! It's tough to throw down $220 for a pair of shoes but I love running in the rain and the waterproofing looks like it works. We'll see how much longer I can stand stuffing newspaper into my shoes.

      haha, thanks! i try to keep my reviews short and to the point. this was actually one of my "longer" ones. I try to be objective on some things, but some people say I dont know anything..and others appreciate my opinion lol as far as going on a tangent....My reviews are more the point, The vlogs are somewhat goofy and not too serious, and my Tips/Rant videos are me just acting dramatic on a topic that interest me. some people I am upset or mad, but Its just fun to mix things up for fun. I am glad you are here!

    I want adidas to make a boost shoe with absolutely no plastic bits, weighs less than 9 oz, and has something like the nike flywire. Also, is priced less than $150 canadian dollars.

    I used to have Supernova Glide ATR for rain/colder weather and I still have Energy Boost 3.0 for summer. I used them both for running and plain everyday use. I know normally it is not a good idea. But boost and continental rubber can withstand it. This is why I stick to adidas and now when the Supernovas finally gave up, I went for an upgrade to Ultraboost ATR.
    Thanks for this video because it is hard to find review covering their performance, not just the style. I have tried UB Uncaged and ATR. ATR due to the thicker outsole feel more firm and stable. Boost is not as effective with so much rubber under it. Still plushy and comfy, but they have the stability I lacked even in normal Ultraboost (this is why I previously went for Energy Boost). I don't know about trails or any sport requiring running different than in a straight line, but for typical running training they are great. Especially for long distance or heavy runners. They are heavy, so they won't do for breaking records.
    Now I have used them in temperatures below 0. And they are fine - thick outsole and primeknit upper keep the foot warm. And Continental rubber has so much grip it's crazy.

    Hi Jamie thanks for reviewing the Ultraboosts ATR. It shows that the original ultra boost are a couple of ounces lighter and more supportive than a $40 dollar more overpriced hyped shoe. I really like the look of the ATR, especially not having a plastic cage. But I figured your foot would be all over the place inside the sneaker with the way the PK allows for movement. $220 for the general release pair like the Burgundy pair in your video, and another $20 added on to the retail price for the "LTD" models. Steep price to pay for a water resistant casual shoe.

    Since it says ATR or "ALL TERRAIN", and with that rugged sole, it should be able to handle trail running and hiking. Without lateral bracing, well, at least hiking. That's what I do, on mountain trails. So please follow up your first well made review (thanks!) with a second one to review the durability of the upper to scuffs and abrasions. I don't want to spend $220 for a trail shoe with an upper that rips, tears, or wears out easily.

    i bought a pair. wore them for 45 minutes playing tennis and they had a hole ripped on the top from the material over stretching. This shoe is only for running straight. Also they are very narrow, it felt like my foot was hanging over the sole.

  • @MrManlyBeardyMan
    @MrManlyBeardyMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I mean if you review shoes for trails and running then yeah, normal ubs are terrible for that. And it ruins the boost. These are just casual shoes that don’t get messy in rainy or cold weather. And they can keep you warm.
    220 is heavy but that’s why I got em for 160 on stock x

  • @bicyclekikz14
    @bicyclekikz14 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    i think it's just a bad bad shoe not worth the $220 and def not for running. these ultraboosts are more of casual wear but that's just my opinion.

    They advertise it only running on roads with snow... Which you can do with the non-ATR Continental outsole anyway... The upper is not good enough for trails... And if you want super cushioned trail runs... Get the Hoka Challenger ATRs... They are much cheaper and performs much better...

    • @JamisonMichael
      @JamisonMichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ho Yiu Cheng yeah, I think it’s better to just save the money and get a normal ultra boost. I’m suppose to get the challenger 4 soon, but we’ll see..so many shoes coming out at the end of the year.

  • @kithnou
    @kithnou 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review Jamison. Maybe could have been longer, but a good one :p
    If I may ask a few questions...
    1. Only a winter shoe? Gets too hot to run on the road with in Summer?
    2. There is more continental rubber on this shoe than regular UltraBoost running shoes, hence last longer or better grip?
    3. You feel the regular UltraBoost offers better support and comfort for road running?
    4. Can you take out and replace the insole in this shoe, and all UltraBoosts for that matter?
    Thanks Jamison :)

    • @JamisonMichael
      @JamisonMichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. the midline sock collar made the shoe a bit warm after a couple of miles of wear. Once I got warmed up, I noticed my feet/ankle felt warmer than usual.
      2. The is more continental rubber it protrudes out out more and is much thicker. I have confident that it will last longer since its about 3 times as thick, and yes the grip is better better on more surfaces. This is where I think the "All Terrain" part comes in, it griped well on much of the trail and slick grass.
      3. I think having an actual cage (normal ultraBoost) felt much more secure when running, My foot doesnt slide around as much. This ATR version almost felt like the uncaged version of the ultraboost with lacking noticible lateral support. There was very litle to keep your foot sliding around when I made turns or tight cuts while on trails. Sure it gripped well, but my foot was halfway off of the base of the shoe. While Road running in the ATR it was fine....but the normal UltraBoost is already capable of doing that...so the extra $40 for me wasnt worth it since you're having to carry the extra weight of the ATR and less stability in the upper whenever you may have to make a tighter turns. (not that the normal UB has amazing lateral support, but it is much more than the ATR in my opinion)
      4. Yes you can replace the insole. it slides out just like the rest of the ultraboost shoes. I tried putting a superfeet and a aetrix in the shoe. they did change the feel of the shoe, but yes, they did fit and I will expect that most other insoles/orthotics will fit fine if you decide to replace them.

    • @kithnou
      @kithnou 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jamison. My conclusion on this great shoe would be that for a road runner, the only benefit is the thicker continental rubber. Otherwise, best stay with the regular UltraBoost. Beautiful shoe though. Quite the fashion statement. May pick one up next winter down here. Thanks again ;)

      Ciaran Saunders yeah, I actually had some footage comparing the two shoes (my non-shield version) during the water test, and I got a similar feel too. Besides the rocks getting stuck between the outsole laser cuts..I like the lunar epic better overall than this ATR, I figure the lunarEpic shield version would just add more to value to the shoe

    I believe adidas is going to the wrong direction with their shoes. All they have in mind is the "athleasure" market and lifetyle. If you see their line-up today, they only have 2 shoes for the hardcore runners: Boston and Adios.

      Hardcore people should go to saucony and ASICS.

    How long do you think the outsole is gonna last? (running in any conditions)

    • @JamisonMichael
      @JamisonMichael  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would say it should last the entire life of the shoe, the outsole is bout 3 times as thick and rugged as a normal ultraBoost. I imagine you would probably replace the shoe because of the upper going bad or the cushioned losing its bounce before the outsole goes out on you. I would imagine a full year if you use it consistently, maybe even longer if you just wear it when you out and about. I have some ultraboost 2.0 that are still going strong, my 3.0 that i wear are also still good. I feel confident that the ATR will outlast both of them.

    Whats up Jamison, i need a new running shoe the upcoming basketball season because our coach makes us do conditionig by running a few miles on the road and rarely trail, and also makes us do sprinting full speed on the track along with jogging a few miles on the track. I want to definetley get a boost shoe because in need impact protection and my school wants us wearing only adidas gear. Is there and boost shoe u recomend. I dont know that much abt running, so thats why me question might seem strange.

    Will they be all right for summer aswell? I suppose they could qet quite hot, which I wouldn't really like

    • @JamisonMichael
      @JamisonMichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I havent had them in heat of a summer yet, but I would likely think so. They're already pretty bulky, and the mid color already feels warm. This may be one those "Cold months" shoe.

      Shame, given the price of them I'd like to wear them all year long.

    U mentioned that your foot is sliding all over the place. Do u think it would be better to go a size down. Oh and how good is the traction for this shoe on wet surfaces?

    • @JamisonMichael
      @JamisonMichael  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      during tighter turns it slights. I tried sizing down and it didnt help, Its just the lack of any substantial lateral support. Primeknit isnt the most stable upper, but not having a cage or some kind of midfoot lockdown holds this shoe back from being a true performer. The traction is great just about everything, even wet surfaces. probably one of the best that I have.

      2. Saucony "everun"
      3. Altra "ego"
      4. Brooks "dna amp"

    Bro I noticed you tend to land on you toes first like tip toeing instead of your heels while running. You need to change that man because it does some serious problem to you hips and your plantar fasciitis in the long run! Just lookin out man

    • @keefernator
      @keefernator 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Studies show heel running is bad for knees and hips which can accelerate breakdown of cartilage.. toe running is far easier on your joints. Look up the literature

    • @Mr.ReanuKeeves
      @Mr.ReanuKeeves 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've read that study and it's completely false. There are three strikes when you land your foot. Rearfoot strike, midfoot strike and forefoot strike. Runners who run forefoot (which are the ball/toes first) find themselves fatigued quicker and resort to running rearfoot first. Either way, there's an amount of impact on your hips and knee joints but it also depends on how you condition yourself and your weight also. Take it like this, toss an egg, it would crack. Roll an egg, it would roll and not crack. It's the same mechanics.
