As per Annamalai, North Indian companies/people feel that if they step in they will be forced to speak in tamil. Firstly this is a wrong statement as most of the people here knows English. So what is being implied is since they are not able to speak or learn Tamil/English, we need to learn Hindi as simple as that.

I am a Tamilan. There are always advantages of studying additional languages, especially Hindi. You will have better understanding of Indian politics. Am teaching my children more than 5 languages. We are from karnataka, i teach my children kannada, telugu, tamil, hindi english. Im also stressing my children to learn sign language so that they communicate with hearing and speech impaired.

Perhaps you are judging them with Shakespearean standard but to me the language skills are adequate. If anything, I would lament the apathy towards Tamil, especially its rich literature. I would attribute this apathy to the poor standards of teachers though. Most students/people can speak/read/write Tamil but only colloquial. I wish more students are taught to appreciate Tamil’s rich literature.

As per Annamalai, North Indian companies/people feel that if they step in they will be forced to speak in tamil. Firstly this is a wrong statement as most of the people here knows English. So what is being implied is since they are not able to speak or learn Tamil/English, we need to learn Hindi as simple as that.

Perhaps you are judging them with Shakespearean standard but to me the language skills are adequate. If anything, I would lament the apathy towards Tamil, especially its rich literature. I would attribute this apathy to the poor standards of teachers though. Most students/people can speak/read/write Tamil but only colloquial. I wish more students are taught to appreciate Tamil’s rich literature.
