- Lightweight, US made, and tough. The TAG Plate Carrier is a win all around. After about a year of testing, this LBE option has become another favorite of mine. Real estate is excellent, the stitching is perfect, and the materials choices are top notch. It goes on and comes off easily and has good stability during running. It is not mesh-lined like many other uber expensive US LBE options but I didn't find that to be a show stopper. MOLLE specification is assured and all quality pouches will fit. The TAG Plate Carrier takes up to XL ESAPI and armor plate options. You will get excellent frontal and back armor coverage with its large pockets (that hold the heavy ceramic plates tight). The side plate pockets fit my Diamondback Tactical Level IIIA inserts perfectly but the 7x8 SAPIs probably won't. A drag handle stays low profile until needed. The shoulders are clean and unobstructed for shoulder weapons and padded straps are low profile. Colors offered are extensive and the value is excellent give the USA source and quality; expect around $125. I was stoked to see the TAG price readjustments awhile back that makes their gear extremely attractive now. The product also supports the LC Industries employment for blind people.///////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10
I have the same and a 20 year veteran. ESAPI XL plates hang perfect and comfortable. Even with weight, there is very little intrusion caused by plates riding high in crouched positions. SUPER shoulder comfort and I run TAG pouches or Blackhawk in FULL configuration with Kangaroo, stacked Mag pouches, dump, hydro (armadillo), radio, blade and IFAK. I am 6'4", 225 and can clearly run it, but, even smaller folks have DON'ed and it wears fully adjustable to under 5'9". USA, best $ and proven!
After viewing many of NutnFancy vids, I think nutnfancy is an example of awesome. His reviews of his own experiences are a fantastic insight to a interesting and knowledglable man. His reviews of products selection are detailed and easy to understand. Keep Rock'n.
this sounds like a very viable option for those who would like to have the capabilities of multicam at a reasonably affordable price without compromising on quality or real estate for gear. been waiting on that review of the QPC from condor, but with this stunning product brought to my attention i am definitely having a change of heart. Thanks Nutn!
Thank you and the TNP crew for all the hard work you put into your videos. I have learned so much from TNP.
Just purchased the Banshee in multicam for my upcoming deployment. It's gonna get a full year of hard infantry use and I'll review it. Love it so far. Thanks for the video, it turned me on to TAG.
Thanks Ryan. However, thus far I have put it through the wringer and it appears to be of higher quality than any issued gear. We also have a member of our channel who is wearing it in Afghanistan (going on 11 months now) and it has held up very well for him, no complaints. I think it was originally meant for LE, but they beefed it up when they saw the potential. I'm truly blown away by the heavy duty quality. Thank you for your concern man. I really appreciate it.
Hi Nutnfancy,
I've been watching your videos for a while now. I noticed you made the comment that when you have to switch to your pistol (or even reload for that matter) you don't like to go down into prone.
In the IDF this is exactly what we do. If you are not firing you must evade. The drill in itself is of medium complexity, but it is a life saver.
Thanks for the upload!
An IDF veteran
You run the cleanest carriers ever! As just an airsoft guy I'm really taking notes from these videos. Some great pointers.
Nut'n I love you brother but your influence has costed me 1000's of dollars in tactical stuff. Anything, from new firearms like my first DPMS over 2 yrs ago to my Kershaw Speedsafe in olive to mag pouches! You have been a huge inspiration and influence on what I buy!! Your'e awesome!!
I like how you recommend for us to buy this at Ares Armor. I am going to buy this soon and I will definitely buy from those guys. They need all the support they can get with the crap politicians going after them. It's so warped. I'm so down with sending them my business. Rock on Ares.
Too bad they don't sell it anymore :(
LOVE THIS VEST!!! Just got it straight from LC, really glad I could help give some business to such a great organization, great deal on this GREAT VEST, talk about quality! Glad I waited a whole day on the Condor M.O.P.C., cause I got what I think is a slightly better product, for a CHEAPER price, American made, GOTTA LOVE IT!! I had seen & been wondering what this vest was, looked like the MOPC but with more real estate, for pouches, adjustment, and COVERAGE for plates/backers.THANK YOU SIR!
this is my go to channel for reviews, tips, knowledge and this v.s. that. Long Live The Nutnfancy Project.
Awesome review bro. This might be my next LBE after my 5.11 VTac. LOVE that thing in OD green w/Coyote Tan pouches to break up the color.
Thank you once again for reviewing the gear before we buy it dude!
SORD have set up an American manufacturing facility so that they can produce their equipment in compliance with the Berry amendment. The SORD gear is excellent but will cost about 3 - 5 times as much, depending on which plate carrier is selected. If you want an even more flexible hydration carrier and don't tend to run a backpack, check out The HEL by SORD. It'll hold up to 2 x 100oz bladders and has a good sized pocket on it too. 4 integrated compression straps keep it under control when it's
Mine is on the way in the mail!!!!!....Cannot wait to get it!....TOTALLY STOKED !!!
Solid review Nutn, I always value your perspective in this area. Thanks for the input
TNP love this review, almost an instant seller! Don't know too much about tactical gear in general, gonna start some research. P.S. Civilian sheepdog here. Also saw the SCAR and the AUG if I'm not mistake and would love to see a shooting AND table top review on both of those as I do not have an AR yet. Love the project , keep up the good work!
thanks for the data point. USGI makes some great gear too but since TAG adjusted their pricing, they are a killer deal...one of the best without a doubt.
Yea, it will fit and you'll have FULL coverage if/when you put in IIIa soft armor inserts. I'm 6', 170, but after the start of the summer I was working so much I got down to 150, and it still fit perfectly, mine still fit's and has lot's of adjustment in either direction. BTW, even with the inserts it's still lightweight and very, VERY comfortable. Gotta be my favorite Plate Carrier I've come across thus far!
Great review, never owned a tacvest but have been considering one after watching your video and seeing the versitility moving multiple items.
Incase anyone was still wondering about the hydration pack, SKD sells the Emdom Vehicle Hydration Carrier which is the closet thing I've found to the one nutn has. It appears to be of very high quality and it got nothing but good reviews so I probably will be ordering one in the near future
Love the review! But one thing: I'd like to see a long-term test of the magnetic mag carriers. In my experience, magnetic attachments will WEAR OUT over time, with the magnet strength becoming weaker the more they are fastened and unfastened. Industrial-strength magnets don't have that much of a problem, but "garment-quality" ones definitely will. For more evidence of this, ask your local shoe and bag repair shop how many magnetic replacements they do per week and listen to their stories.
Hey Nutnfancy, we use something very simlar to this in my work. I think you gave it an A Plus review. When I go tach., it's a little bit more. Can't give away the secrets. Have a great day and thanks
WOW!! I just checked my carrier as I've just ordered all my pouches during the Black Friday sale and they're having QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES, sending out Plate Carriers with the BUCKLES ON THE FRONT! I had to PAY to ship it back so they can 'inspect it', they originally said I'd have to go through OpticsPlanet where I ordered the vest through, FINALLY kept calling and got someone,I still had to pay return shipping for them to fix it! Upsetting cause I REALLY LIKE THIS, now add another 1-2 weeks
Very nice I always enjoy watching your reviews
Great vid and review nutn; been looking for a good tactical vest and I think you have swayed me in their direction. Keep up the good work.
FYI for you and other members of TNP. Just bought a multicam mayhem plate carrier from TAG. They currently have them on sale on their website for $125. Havent seen any reviews on this specific plate carrier, but it is marked down 70% off its list price of $435. I looked around other websites and couldnt find it for any less than $300 so it may be a legit deal. Figured I would give it a shot!
Great stuff. I was a bit surprised, the price is definitely in the ballpark. Sometimes I see what looks like awesome vests, bags, or other gear but I just don't see it offering enough over competition to justify the pricetag. Just speaking as a civilian though can't say about real hard use. Thanks!
Awesome. Thanks nutn. Ready to buy now that I know what it is and how good it is.
Went ahead and swung away on a Multi-Cam version from OpticsPlanet for $124 w/free shipping and a 5% discount that you can find online, google it, MultiCam just ROCKS, especially in Tx, and multicam pouches are everywhere now. I just REALLY like the color! Thank's for review, I've been wondering what the vest was, NOW I KNOW! Got it for LESS than Condor MOPC MultiCam w/shipping. Thanks man, glad I saw this vid last night, got mine before they WILL SELL OUT! Bottom velcro 4 groin armor, BTW.
Nutin, great job on the videos and your breakdown of different systems. Speaking only for myself not having been in the service or in tactical law enforcement after all the Molle gear came out. Can you do a video that explains how to use , how to put togeather this equipment. You probaly explained all this in an earlier video, if so just get me the link. I see all the straps and I used to ware soft body armor but that was in the 80s.This equip is new to me . Thanks again.
Outstanding reveiw on an awesome bit of kit Nutn'! high value quality made in the usa that works! man you have been pumping out the vids, almost 2 a day, better slow down or we will get used it a daily fix of TNP! (not that i would complain ha) Keep up the excellent work Nutn', Whiskey Delta Brother, best wishes to you and the family (esp Allie) be safe
@scandapoodle : I do not think Nutn was saying one should only run soft armor, rather that he does not need it during his stuff and even those who it may serve to have hard armor would have a hard time dealing with the weight of it, so it would require a very specific circumstance to justify it.
I am loving the weight reduction mod on those gloves. Saved .1 ozs.
Finally got my TAG Plate Carrier in with the buckles in the REAR as they advertise on their site.. (wait your Plate Carrier in Multicam is like mine w/buckles in rear, but your khaki one has buckles up front... Hmm, strange?) and all my matching pouches will be here tomorrow! TAG took care of me,IMO!
I just read my last comment again. It sounds like an ad. I'm not associated with SORD in any way but I do love their gear and spend far too much of my income on it. I'd say that it compares well in terms of quality and price with the HSGI gear that I have but I tend to find their designs more innovative and customer service better.
Between the TAG one and Patrol Incident Gear PCs, I actually liked the latter better. Lower profile and better padding on the shoulders. Plus, the drag handle is better and the ventilation on the PIG are better. The TAG isn't bad for the price.
@nutnfancy you should definitely look into Mayflower R&C's line of tactical nylon. Lightweight, low-profile, simple kit. And it won't break the bank. Plus matching webbing.
@offramp100 You are absolutely correct, live and learn! -- Veri
@LuckyTexas68 Its a Blackhawk Serpa with the Ambidextrous Platform and the Quick Disconnect Kit. Good Luck!
@Uri24 They say it would slow it down enough to get MORE deformation and allow it to 'yaw'/cause more damage by already being deformed BEFORE it hit's you, it is true, the German Army would tell their soldiers to remove their Kevlar Flak Vests in certain battlefield conditions where they were more threatened by rifle rounds than fragmentation. I'll be running a regular concealed vest UNDER the vest with the plates in the vest itself. It IS HEAVY, but for the protection I like it as an OPTION.
from his reviews i could say that he likes condor. I have a few different condor carriers and they are very good quality I think that for their price range they are excellent.
@squidyp Thanks squidy! We get tons of advertising in the comments and its something that I normally remove, but I was running behind on this one,. I don't like it either. -- Veri
@neanderthor66 There's really not a whole lot out there, honestly. You can buy shell cases that are MOLLE compatible, there's also competition shell carriers (not sure how durable those would be rolling around on the ground, etc.). Other than that, you have shotgun side saddles, shell holder slings, the slip on elastic stock covers that hold shells, speed feed stocks, etc. There is also the Saiga magazine fed shotguns, or the Kel-Tec KSG which has dual magazine tubes, or you can just carry a
Very cool NUT!! Great informative video man!
@ Nutn', Have you found another plate carrier you like more since testing this one?
Also, will the DKX Max III XL (11"x14"?) fit in this?
Just got my Banshee in. It's quite a lot different from the plate carrier in the video.
@spiritartman I've had a TAG vest for a year, different model though. I got it at Optics Planet. Biggest problem with Optics Planet is if they have what you want in stock or not. Backorders can take a LONG time. I think you'll see from Nutn's videos the pistol is loaded, not much point in carrying an empty gun.
Hey man, I was one of the ones who asked about this plate carrier and the hydration carrier....Thank you. Great info as always and i fully trust your reviews.
Can you recommend any .308 ammo pouches?
Octavio, USN
Just wanted to check. I went on the Blue Force site and they had "Ten-Speed" pouches, not "Light Speed". Were those a discontinued version or just an error? Great videos.
Nutn needs a Mechanix sponsorship!
nutn I just saw an ad for US Palm in a LE mag. $180 for a IIIA molle carrier with front plate.. what?! add $100 for a rear plate. Also comes in a crossdraw for the same price. Sounds like good value for the money for those who are on a budget. Worth a review?
As of 27APR13, dont see that hydration pouch on the website. The one listed has no secondary compartments... bummer. If im wrong or looking in the wrong place, let me know. Cheers, keep it up.
Appreciate the solid review brother!
@nutnfancy We need a new lbe holster option since the one your running is no longer in production. Any suggested nylon holsters being tested or that you favor?
im looking to dechink my rig, this looks like a good PC, i think youve sold me, thanks a lot!
@reeseman67 I just REALLY HOPE THIS QC issue isn't as a result of the 'price reduction', but I felt you would want to know about this situation. The ENTIRE shipment OpticsPlanet received from TAG has reverse buckles on plate carriers!! Not acceptable for a $150 U.S. produced vest.... Going to give them a chance to make it right, but WOW, THATS A BIG PROBLEM sewing the buckles occluding the front shoulders instead of the rear positioning as they are supposed to be!!!!
@triffin
I swear by my Rocky AlphaForce Boots (about 100 bucks online). They have awsome "V" shaped treads that provide ENORMOUS grip on all surfaces (I even wear them Ice Fishing!). They are also Waterproof. Rocky's are very well made imho, and I'd highly recommend them.
My Rockies (on my 3rd set of these boots, and I've had 5 sets of Rocky Boots total) last me more than two years of continuous use. Their "Eliminator" is their top of the line boot, but they cost 200 bucks a pair.
I'm a fairly thin/skinny guy at 5'11, 155 lbs. Would this vest adjust comfortably to my size without slack or sag, in your estimation? Thanks and God bless 'ya Nutnfancy!
I think the shellback banshee plate carrier is pretty nice but with all the extra features that you can add on it can get it can get pretty expensive.
I have been looking at the TAG aggressor carrier.. you can insert soft armor in it. Thanks for the review
Given the no-mesh design of this carrier, would this work in an all seasons environment? Would it be practical to wear in the typical crotch-sweatin' midwest summers? Great review, btw...
Awesome review, love the gear, dont know much about TAG, in all it seems pretty square away! Thanks again for showing all these nice tactical options, TNP still No.1
Its crazy how light stuff has gotten. The SOC-C plate carrier from blue force gear weighs in at 1 pound
Talking points are awesome.
Great review as always!
Can't wait for that SCAR-H review! =D
@wcropp1 (cont.) bunch of shells in a shoulder bag, or in a pouch on your belt, etc. The size of shotgun shells makes it difficult to carry lots of rounds in a compact fashion that is fast to reload. In other words, the box magazine fed shotguns are quick to reload, but the magazines themselves are rather bulky and cumbersome. Basically you just want something that you allow you to carry and easily access shells to keep your magazine tube topped off during a lull in the fight.
Hey Nutn', how do you have your SERPA attached to your LBE? Does the circle thing (I don't know what else to call it, sorry.) come with the holster, or is it something you had to buy separately?
@scandapoodle its Danish Desert camo. so abit lighter than multicam. but fits good.
its the NFM Bear II. and its great. and was on redused price.
When are we gonna see that CZ-75b Cold War Commemorative in action?
I've got one myself and love it.
good advice ill take it to heart
Even better on the price point, I just got the Rampage plate carrier in A TACS priced at about 155 on the blowout deals page for check it... $21!
This wont be my first rodeo, but I will certainly do my best to stay safe and, more importantly, bring my brothers home. Thank you for the kind words, I'll keep them with me.
hey do you think this TAG plate carrier is worth the extra cost compared to the condor? as far as PoU i'm looking for something primarily for EMS use. i want to have something to carry in my trunk with EMS mass casualty in mind (think boston marathon). i'd like to have some armor in it that could handle AR/AK rounds. also it doesn't appear to have clips on the shoulder straps. did i miss them?
The hydration carrier looks like the Ares Armor carrier, not the TAG. At least from the pictures online.
How well does the Tac Force pistol carrier support the pistol? Its hard to tell through a video but it looks like it would be a little flimsy compared to something like a Serpa Strike platform, It looks like it would be great as its soft and not as bulky as a Serpa for when in prone.
-MM
Thank you for your service.
I can't wait for Blue Force Gear Helium Whisper review :-)
@jeffxl12 some people wear them as a training tool who are in a law enforcement capacity. others wear them as a safety measure when they go shooting. ive had a close call with a riccochet before and thought about getting a vest for that very reason. nutn has said before that is one of the reasons he wears a vest, in case of an accidental discharge.
Will you ever use BDS gear in the future? or are you using some now? I'm curious on your opinon/experience with it.
Great review! I would love a footwear review! I'm in the market for some new boots!
I have the multicam version but I added the tactical tailor removable operator pack to the back of mine which is bladder compatible
Did you have to buy side pockets for the side armor on yours or is it built in??? I just ordered a Banshee..
@nutnfancy I'm interested in some of the TAG Phalanx Chest Rigs. Any thoughts on those, or plans to review them?
Hey NF. i wish i could just send a PM but cannot fibd that option. Ive assumed from watching a few videos your in LE. what is your opinion on regular *citizens* as myself who has no background in military or LE having plates in our plate carrier vests?
Nice dude I just scored a lightly used rig just like the one you reviewed in the video for $56 on eBay! It will hold the standard classIII ceramic plates right?
The version shown has been discontinued. They went to a 7 row molle system instead of 8. Any ideas where a guy could pick up the 8 row version?
Just ordered one this morning from la police gear they have them back in stock.
Another great vid! Thanks! I got to know once & for all is plates legal or not? Live in AZ! Please someone respond? Also price? I've seen some in US Cav.com for $100 I'm not convinced their a good brand! How much can I expect to spend on good rifle plates for a LBE? Good brands?
it's a good carrier only problem is that for the smaller people it's a bit too big on the chest, 8 rows of molly make it uncomfortable.
I need to see you run an Ares Gladiator rig!
@scandapoodle I believe that NutN mentioned in the video he only wears the soft armor personally for the accidental discharge of a pistol round because of the large number of people he tests with and follows up by saying that it would not be recommended for protection against any type of rifle rounds. Did not seem to me that he was pushing anything. Just his opinions. If it is your life on the line, best to make your own decisions
I don't live in the U.S. If I want to check some gear I need to order it online and had it shipped to me.
Hey- I see you running a SCAR 17s do you have a review on that? I tried searching and could not find one- you rock- thanks for all the time you put into this...god bless your wife and family..LOL so true on that!
I wonder why so much good gear is discontinued?
+Chaplain Dave Sparks Production cost rises, so they offer "new and improved" items for a little more money.
i thought that the pocket you always wear on your back was for your battery pack! (kind of nutnfancy energizer bunny thing going on there). thanks for clearing that one up! lol
hey nutn I just want to say first off I really enjoy your videos so far. keep up the good work but I was wondering if you could direct me to a good site to find more info and a place to actually purchase one of these TAG vests. thanks a lot... oh and btw the actual site for them is down that's why im asking every other site ive found is pretty crummy as far as any actual information and or sizing and such. thanks for the help
How to tell between airsoft and real tactical gear? Do u just have to go with the brand? I just bought a backpack thinking it was real and found out it's actually just a bag made by a popular airsoft manufacturer. Phoenix industry
I can't find the Diamond Back inserts shown in this video. Can you offer an alternative?
