Tactical Assault Gear Plate Carrier review by Nutnfancy

  • Lightweight, US made, and tough. The TAG Plate Carrier is a win all around. After about a year of testing, this LBE option has become another favorite of mine. Real estate is excellent, the stitching is perfect, and the materials choices are top notch. It goes on and comes off easily and has good stability during running. It is not mesh-lined like many other uber expensive US LBE options but I didn't find that to be a show stopper. MOLLE specification is assured and all quality pouches will fit. The TAG Plate Carrier takes up to XL ESAPI and armor plate options. You will get excellent frontal and back armor coverage with its large pockets (that hold the heavy ceramic plates tight). The side plate pockets fit my Diamondback Tactical Level IIIA inserts perfectly but the 7x8 SAPIs probably won't. A drag handle stays low profile until needed. The shoulders are clean and unobstructed for shoulder weapons and padded straps are low profile. Colors offered are extensive and the value is excellent give the USA source and quality; expect around $125. I was stoked to see the TAG price readjustments awhile back that makes their gear extremely attractive now. The product also supports the LC Industries employment for blind people.///////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10

I have the same and a 20 year veteran. ESAPI XL plates hang perfect and comfortable. Even with weight, there is very little intrusion caused by plates riding high in crouched positions. SUPER shoulder comfort and I run TAG pouches or Blackhawk in FULL configuration with Kangaroo, stacked Mag pouches, dump, hydro (armadillo), radio, blade and IFAK. I am 6'4", 225 and can clearly run it, but, even smaller folks have DON'ed and it wears fully adjustable to under 5'9". USA, best $ and proven!

this sounds like a very viable option for those who would like to have the capabilities of multicam at a reasonably affordable price without compromising on quality or real estate for gear. been waiting on that review of the QPC from condor, but with this stunning product brought to my attention i am definitely having a change of heart. Thanks Nutn!

Thanks Ryan. However, thus far I have put it through the wringer and it appears to be of higher quality than any issued gear. We also have a member of our channel who is wearing it in Afghanistan (going on 11 months now) and it has held up very well for him, no complaints. I think it was originally meant for LE, but they beefed it up when they saw the potential. I'm truly blown away by the heavy duty quality. Thank you for your concern man. I really appreciate it.

    Hi Nutnfancy,
I've been watching your videos for a while now. I noticed you made the comment that when you have to switch to your pistol (or even reload for that matter) you don't like to go down into prone.
In the IDF this is exactly what we do. If you are not firing you must evade. The drill in itself is of medium complexity, but it is a life saver.
    Thanks for the upload!

LOVE THIS VEST!!! Just got it straight from LC, really glad I could help give some business to such a great organization, great deal on this GREAT VEST, talk about quality! Glad I waited a whole day on the Condor M.O.P.C., cause I got what I think is a slightly better product, for a CHEAPER price, American made, GOTTA LOVE IT!! I had seen & been wondering what this vest was, looked like the MOPC but with more real estate, for pouches, adjustment, and COVERAGE for plates/backers.THANK YOU SIR!

SORD have set up an American manufacturing facility so that they can produce their equipment in compliance with the Berry amendment. The SORD gear is excellent but will cost about 3 - 5 times as much, depending on which plate carrier is selected. If you want an even more flexible hydration carrier and don't tend to run a backpack, check out The HEL by SORD. It'll hold up to 2 x 100oz bladders and has a good sized pocket on it too. 4 integrated compression straps keep it under control when it's

Yea, it will fit and you'll have FULL coverage if/when you put in IIIa soft armor inserts. I'm 6', 170, but after the start of the summer I was working so much I got down to 150, and it still fit perfectly, mine still fit's and has lot's of adjustment in either direction. BTW, even with the inserts it's still lightweight and very, VERY comfortable. Gotta be my favorite Plate Carrier I've come across thus far!

Love the review! But one thing: I'd like to see a long-term test of the magnetic mag carriers. In my experience, magnetic attachments will WEAR OUT over time, with the magnet strength becoming weaker the more they are fastened and unfastened. Industrial-strength magnets don't have that much of a problem, but "garment-quality" ones definitely will. For more evidence of this, ask your local shoe and bag repair shop how many magnetic replacements they do per week and listen to their stories.

WOW!! I just checked my carrier as I've just ordered all my pouches during the Black Friday sale and they're having QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES, sending out Plate Carriers with the BUCKLES ON THE FRONT! I had to PAY to ship it back so they can 'inspect it', they originally said I'd have to go through OpticsPlanet where I ordered the vest through, FINALLY kept calling and got someone,I still had to pay return shipping for them to fix it! Upsetting cause I REALLY LIKE THIS, now add another 1-2 weeks

FYI for you and other members of TNP. Just bought a multicam mayhem plate carrier from TAG. They currently have them on sale on their website for $125. Havent seen any reviews on this specific plate carrier, but it is marked down 70% off its list price of $435. I looked around other websites and couldnt find it for any less than $300 so it may be a legit deal. Figured I would give it a shot!

Great stuff. I was a bit surprised, the price is definitely in the ballpark. I just REALLY like the color! Thank's for review, I've been wondering what the vest was, NOW I KNOW! Got it for LESS than Condor MOPC MultiCam w/shipping. @scandapoodle : I do not think Nutn was saying one should only run soft armor, rather that he does not need it during his stuff and even those who it may serve to have hard armor would have a hard time dealing with the weight of it, so it would require a very specific circumstance to justify it.

I just read my last comment again. It sounds like an ad. I'm not associated with SORD in any way but I do love their gear and spend far too much of my income on it. I'd say that it compares well in terms of quality and price with the HSGI gear that I have but I tend to find their designs more innovative and customer service better.

Between the TAG one and Patrol Incident Gear PCs, I actually liked the latter better. Lower profile and better padding on the shoulders. Plus, the drag handle is better and the ventilation on the PIG are better. The TAG isn't bad for the price.

@Uri24 They say it would slow it down enough to get MORE deformation and allow it to 'yaw'/cause more damage by already being deformed BEFORE it hit's you, it is true, the German Army would tell their soldiers to remove their Kevlar Flak Vests in certain battlefield conditions where they were more threatened by rifle rounds than fragmentation. I'll be running a regular concealed vest UNDER the vest with the plates in the vest itself. It IS HEAVY, but for the protection I like it as an OPTION.

You can buy shell cases that are MOLLE compatible, there's also competition shell carriers (not sure how durable those would be rolling around on the ground, etc.). Other than that, you have shotgun side saddles, shell holder slings, the slip on elastic stock covers that hold shells, speed feed stocks, etc. There is also the Saiga magazine fed shotguns, or the Kel-Tec KSG which has dual magazine tubes, or you can just carry a

@reeseman67 I just REALLY HOPE THIS QC issue isn't as a result of the 'price reduction', but I felt you would want to know about this situation. The ENTIRE shipment OpticsPlanet received from TAG has reverse buckles on plate carriers!! Not acceptable for a $150 U.S. produced vest.... Going to give them a chance to make it right, but WOW, THATS A BIG PROBLEM sewing the buckles occluding the front shoulders instead of the rear positioning as they are supposed to be!!!!

@wcropp1 (cont.) bunch of shells in a shoulder bag, or in a pouch on your belt, etc. The size of shotgun shells makes it difficult to carry lots of rounds in a compact fashion that is fast to reload. In other words, the box magazine fed shotguns are quick to reload, but the magazines themselves are rather bulky and cumbersome. Basically you just want something that you allow you to carry and easily access shells to keep your magazine tube topped off during a lull in the fight.

How well does the Tac Force pistol carrier support the pistol? Its hard to tell through a video but it looks like it would be a little flimsy compared to something like a Serpa Strike platform, It looks like it would be great as its soft and not as bulky as a Serpa for when in prone.

@scandapoodle I believe that NutN mentioned in the video he only wears the soft armor personally for the accidental discharge of a pistol round because of the large number of people he tests with and follows up by saying that it would not be recommended for protection against any type of rifle rounds. Did not seem to me that he was pushing anything. Just his opinions. If it is your life on the line, best to make your own decisions

I don't live in the U.S. If I want to check some gear I need to order it online and had it shipped to me.

+Chaplain Dave Sparks Production cost rises, so they offer "new and improved" items for a little more money.

How to tell between airsoft and real tactical gear? Do u just have to go with the brand? I just bought a backpack thinking it was real and found out it's actually just a bag made by a popular airsoft manufacturer. Phoenix industry

I can't find the Diamond Back inserts shown in this video. Can you offer an alternative?
